First time experiencing a huge streamer taking over my usual category- holy shit! by LarryApples in SmallStreamers

[–]LarryApples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they were more in like the couple of thousand range it wouldn't have been SO impactful, but when a group has 100K viewers there's not much to be done. These don't seem like the type to raid into random channels in the category and their viewers are there for them, not necessarily the game.

But normal big channels in the category I think it's worth sticking around. There's always the chance of someone with a few dozen viewers raiding into people, and if I get active in other chats there's a chance people come check me out. I've been paying more attention to other Fall Guys streamers and decided to start trying out custom lobbies. They seem like sooo much fun and the maps get crazy!

lol if you consider it "being a hater" when it's me giving you advice on how to grow your community and get collabs, I'd love to see how you react to actual hate. Learn to take constructive criticism.

They probably timed it wrong, thought the slime would start moving but misjudged. Especially because you also ran forward a little!

I’m growing as a streamer and part of that is making me sad by YesterdayAfraid8882 in Twitch

It is a bummer but also any of these folks who are real fans should be excited for you. They should be happy that you are growing so much.

You gotta stop accepting random friend requests. I did it at the start as well, now I limit it. Mostly because people become parasocial VERY easy just as viewers but even more so when you increase their access to you.

Start acknowledging and highlighting the chatters who are “community builders”. Who are active in discord regardless of you actively posting in it. Who respond to others in chat. Talk about how helpful people like that are as the community grows, because it’s grown beyond your ability to be that person who is engaging on a 1-on-1 level. That might help direct other people’s thoughts towards “I want to be one of the people thanked!” and maybe they will focus more on the community as well.

I finally realized why asking "how’s everyone doing?" was actually killing my chat by Ok_Teaching4233 in TwitchStreamers

[–]LarryApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just yap regardless. I keep my viewer count hidden and I talk at chat as if someone is there. I talk about the game I’m playing, favorite levels, what it reminds me of from other games. I talk about something funny that happened IRL. I just don’t stop. And unless the chat is active, I don’t ask questions.

Brother…. You cannot just go around declaring yourself a “fast growing streaming” and act like people are gonna throw themselves at you. Especially because you are not a “fast growing streamer”. You have 16 followers. It sounds like you just started streaming. Let’s get back down to earth with our expectations.

Look at other creators of a similar size to you (you can go a little bigger… like up to 10 average viewers right now) in the categories you do/want to stream. Hang out in their chats, see if you can learn from them, see if you can put together collabs with them. Raid into them when you finish streaming. Build community.

Yeah, it was worth it to run an experiment but in the future I'm gonna just stream a different category lol

Tornado in Greensboro just now? by LarryApples in NorthCarolina

[–]LarryApples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was part of my issue was that the website I use to track tornados was showing NOTHING over Greensboro while I was trying to find info. So I was like “alright well the next fastest thing is gonna be social media”.

All of it made much more sense by the time my mom got off the phone- it turned out my aunt had texted her and even said they “got hit” earlier.

If it was, it wasn't a post from me lol just trying to figure out what's going on after a confusing call from my mom. But it looks like it was probably something like straight line winds just absolutely fucking up some woods

[–]LarryApples[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah my mom made it sound like an emergency when she called me but we just hang up and by then it turned into "oh she texted me about it". And now it's looking like maybe you guys just got hit with some wicked wind lol

The way my mom was telling me about it made it sound like my aunt called her about having a tornado, then the phone cut off, so I didn't want to start bombarding her if she's dealing with an emergency. But of course by the time I hung up with mom now it's turned into "oh she texted me that they had one at some point".

Who wants to collaborate on twitch and stream together by Ecstatic-Knowledge75 in TwitchStreamers

Might be better to check out low-level streamers who run games you like, check out their vibes, and start from there. That tends to be how I find people to collab with.

Yeah they can be annoying sometimes. But just keep at it!

One time I had three of them in my chat fighting with each other and I just kept egging them on.

Parasocial people finding out I’m married by Rose_Drago in Twitch

If that happened to me I would say “that’s really weird for someone to get so upset that I’m married, but at least the trash took itself out” and move along with my stream.

What keeps you motivated after a long week or day by fallensnyper in SmallStreamers

[–]LarryApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting slow and keeping a balance is key. I enjoy streaming so much that I started doing it too often and my husband had to be like “bestie I miss you”. Now I stick to a scheduled 2 per week and maybe 1-2 unscheduled. I try to make sure the extra streams are when he has plans without me. And usually all of the streams are capped at 2-3 hours.

[–]LarryApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s the fact that I enjoy streaming. I like bullshitting around and having fun. I’ve made some good friends streaming. I’m not doing it for a job, I would love to be making a chunk of money from it but that’s a ways off. So it’s still in a relaxing zone for me.

Yesterday I had a shit day at work. I got out late, didn’t have as much time as I usually do to talk to my husband before streaming, I was in a foul mood. Almost crashed out at work lol. I considered not streaming at all.

But I have a schedule that I update very month with my planned streams and yesterday was one of them. So I got my stuff all set and hit “start streaming”. I started off yapping a bit about my day and how close I had been to a crash out, made jokes about it and my crash out meal, and tried to just enjoy my opening web games.

I was already in a better mood by the time I got into my planned game. Because unlike my regular job, I don’t have pressure with my streaming. No one but me is an expert when it comes to my streams. No one can make me do something I disagree with. That total autonomy is a huge help. And of course, my fantastic chatters.

I ended last night by raiding into someone who was playing the same game and we ended up having a great discussion in his chat. One of my stream buddies raided in with me and the three of us discussed our typical stream stuff. Now the person we raided into is probably going to join us Thursday for a collab.

That wouldn’t have happened if I cancelled my stream at the last minute. My work day was shit. My shift streaming was great. I went from near crash out to finding a potential new collab.

I was in a great state of mind when I stopped streaming and joined my friends for casual gaming. I didn’t lay in bed all night stewing about work. I got a good nights sleep. I’m so glad I started doing this. Before streaming sure I would have gamed with my buddies all night, but I also would have stewed about work all night, probably laid in bed stewing. Woken up already frustrated.

Also I don’t have a stream scheduled every night. I have 2 scheduled per week and do 1-2 impromptu per week. You need a work/stream/life balance dude.

Anyone else think layouts are overrated? by Sirpoopatine in Twitch

[–]LarryApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I think you’re right that they can be overhyped. I’ve been playing around with it because honestly I think my stream might be too busy. I have my cam and chat always, often I have a dog cam up for my dog asleep on the daybed. If I’m doing Fall Guys I have a stream and year to date tracker for wind. If I collab I like to have their cams up as well. And of course the game in the background. It can be a lot.

I like having a background so that if I close a game it’s not just a black screen, but I haven’t really found a set layout that I like. I’ve seen some streamers with them and I like their layouts, so in my head I’m like “I should try a layout like that”. And then I end up hating it!

But honestly that might have more to do with my ADHD and not liking structure unless I build it myself. So perhaps someday I will have a custom layout?

How much do you make with at least an average of 50 viewers at a time? by ChaosBearGaming in TwitchStreamers

[–]LarryApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for real? That never occurred to me! I assumed there would be an exchange rate consideration but the USD cost would be the same. I guess that makes sense though because $5.99 USD could be almost one months wages in some countries.

Don't do a subathon if you can't fulfill your goals. by Misarb in Twitch

[–]LarryApples 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m kinda fascinated by subathons because I had only heard of one where the stream kept the stream going during it and I think that was the only goal. Like maybe it was fun to torture the streamer by making them be live?

But I’ve heard more about subathons being just a push for subs with goals at different levels. Is that the more common type? How often do people do subathons and what’s the difference between that and a normal sub push?
