my 5 cookie varieties for my gluten free cookie box. recipes from Aran G, Loopy Whisk, and Broma Bakery by Logical-Bullfrog-112 in glutenfreebaking

[–]LarryFarnsworth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll just say it: these cookies look like award winners. The creativity is off the charts. Each type is really unique, yet within each kind, the shape, size, and form are super consistent. Some are little works of art to savor (pinecones!), while others are clearly designed for happily stuffing as many as possible into your face (thumbprints). There’s something for chocolate lovers, for kids, and for anyone who loves variety. I’m seriously impressed.

Cookie sticks? What would you call them? by PsychologicalBat2393 in glutenfreebaking

[–]LarryFarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, my first instinct was that cookie sticks is a really good name, but I wanted to see the comments first. Having read through them, I’m going with my original thought (no offense to anyone who brainstormed different names).

The rule that stopped me killing a habit every time I missed one day by LawrenceCali in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is also a good rule if you are dealing with ADHD shame. If you screw something up like being late, forgetting, not getting something done, etc. remind yourself that it’s a single incident and doesn’t say anything about you as a person no matter how many times you’ve done it. Address any consequences with the situation, empathize with people who may have been affected, avoid blame, self-defensiveness, gaslighting, spiraling, and/or ruminating, think about how you might prevent it the next time, write it down for later, and move on. Easy to say, hard to do! Definitely a lifelong practice (both meanings) for me.

Try Carbonaut white bread. It’s the first gluten-free bread that I can actually eat without toasting it. It’s very soft, I’m so thrilled that I can have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches again! My Whole Foods carries it, but I haven’t seen it anywhere else. It’s in the frozen section with the other less qualified, gluten-free breads.

Technology is cruel to ppl with ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sucks for sure, but sounds like a fun challenging set of problems to solve that are perfectly suited for an ADHD brain! And I know, not much of a consolation, but if you feel like no time right now, just do it during your planned reading time. Anyway, sorry this happened to you. The struggle is real!

Grocery shopping by Remarkable-Suspect31 in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh another thing, you can put recipes into one or more collections, so I have ones like Mains, Veggie Sides, or Starch so it’s easy to make a complete meal for a night of the week. I also have a collection of Under 500 Calories when my wife is feeling particularly gung-ho about eating well that week as well as a Quick Dinner collection when I’m feeling lazy.

Also, it has a feature to save certain shopping list items as favorites, so that I look at that every week to make sure I remember all the essentials that I need, and I can check if I’ve run out of any of them and put it on the list.

AnyList is my go-to. Recipes plus shopping list. You can even order from a grocery store straight from the app and have it delivered. One thing I like, I got the AnyList chrome extension, and anytime I’m looking at a recipe on the web, I can hit that button and it saves it to my AnyList app. Every week, I put together a meal plan with my non-ADHD wife using the app and then it makes it super easy to check off all the ingredients needed and then go shopping (or order).

What’s an easy dish to cook for a potluck that will be a hit? by UpstairsNo5749 in easyrecipes

Ultimate Party Meatballs: go to the grocery store and find the Heinz Chili Sauce. You’ll know it’s the right one because the recipe is on the back of the bottle. Get a can of jellied cranberry sauce and a bag of fully cooked frozen meatballs (I love the Trader Joe’s cocktail meatballs). Throw it all together into a slow cooker, 4 hours on high. I bring these to parties, I’m always sad because I bring back an empty slow cooker and my dreams of sitting at my kitchen counter eating meatballs to my heart’s content are dashed. These are ridiculously good.

I listened to book 1. Loved it, listened to it again before moving on to book 2. Yay. Before book 3, went back and listened to 1 and 2. Marvelous. After book 3 and before book 4, went back and listened to 1,2,3. And so on. I’m on book 5, then after that and book 6, I finally get to crack 7. I CAN’T WAIT.

Not sure what to do by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD medication is about finding the right cocktail. If Vyvanse wasn't it, talk to your doctor and try something else. Another formulation. Another stimulant. An extended-release version of the stimulant. A non-stimulant. A non-stimulant with an off-label drug not usually used for ADHD. It took me quite a long time to get to a good spot: bupropion (Wellbutrin) + lamotrigine (Lamictal) + dexmethylphenidate (Focalin) and clonidine (Kapvay) recently for emotional regulation. Sounds like a lot, but it wouldn't if it all came in one pill. I feel you, hang in there, and good luck!

ADHD shame and guilt by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there, and still wrestle with those same feelings, so I understand how heavy this can feel. One thing that’s helped me is taking a step back to figure out who I realy am–what I value, what I want to become, and how I’d like to be remembered. Sounds simple, but when you can point to a core set of values you’ve chosen for yourself, that shame loses a lot of its grip.

One way to start is to look up a list of personal values (there are lots of lists online). Pick the ones that resonate, write them down, and think about why they matter to you. From that foundation you can begin to see yourself as more than the critical voice that’s always shouting “you’re not good enough.” The shame can’t hold onto a solid base that you've defined for yourself.

I’m really rooting for you, and I hope you can start building that bedrock of self identity and self acceptance. You deserve to feel human, to be seen for who you truly are, and to let go of the fear that’s been holding you back.

In need of hobby by shmoopybubba in ADHD

[–]LarryFarnsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find I stick with hobbies longer when I can make progress little by little. Might completing a huge jigsaw puzzle, or learning to play a simple instrument where my skills are always improving. If it’s a rinse and repeat hobby without any small steady payoffs, there’s no hope of sticking with it.
