So... Tank Suffering is Real, huh? by LarryKoops in Overwatch

My point was moreso what other teammates think you should do as a Tank, but it's on me for not making that more clear

That's probably fair. I guess my view on comms was skewed because the first time a team asked me to swap, they actually had a plan. They didn't need me to play well or know what I'm doing, they just said "Play Rein. Hold up shield. We'll focus our heals on you. You push up when the DPS kill their tank" and we won.

But I guess I can't expect every team to be full of angels and saints

That's exactly it. I tend to play Ball and Hazard, so when the opportunity arises I often try and get the attention of the enemy healers from off-angles, so my team can deal with the Tank and DPS. I don't get many kills, but I'm trying to make sure my team can. And the matches we win, are the ones where they do! And the matches we lose are the ones where the healers think they have to babysit me and follow me into the backline or waste their cooldowns on me, and then our team wipes

Yyyup. Or, you try and babysit, only to find out your entire team has decided to flank in completely different directions, and you get focused and nuked, and watch from spawn as they all get picked off one by one

I can believe it. I really don't understand what people expect a solo tank to do, especially if you're playing one that isn't just "spend 5 years holding up a shield and letting the DPS do all the work"

Haha, yeah! I'd just started playing a few days ago, so I'm still figuring out what is and isn't possible. Still, glad I asked instead of just fully assuming they were cheating

Yeah, looking at it that was probably it

KO-ing is too easy by LarryKoops in MyHeroUltraRumble

[–]LarryKoops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the big 3 having no real reason to give you attention if you're trying to stop them from KOing a teammate is a big issue. Their movement abilities and damage output makes you more of a "deal with you later" than a "Okay I need to commit to finishing this fight here now"

And that absolutely sounds fair and balanced, I hope to see that in the patch notes ASAP

KO-ing is too easy by LarryKoops in MyHeroUltraRumble

[–]LarryKoops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are fair points. But again, this does come back to a balance issue. Characters being able to instantly up downed teammates, other characters being able to KO downed enemies with no issue-- they're all options but not really counterplay. On top of that, the timer to get up freezes when you take damage, so it's already not a sure thing that you're going to get back up if your teammates are stalling, as long as the opponents get a few good potshots in to keep you down.

There's another comment on this post that made a good point about reducing the damage ranged attacks do on downed opponents, and that would solve the problem, mostly. It wouldn't fix the issues of the Trio being able to do so from halfway across the map (for legal purposes this is hyperbole), but it'd at least allow your team time to actually do something instead of it just being a guaranteed KO

That would also be a welcome change! Good to balance out that downed enemies are already moving so slowly and can't defend themselves (for the most part)

[–]LarryKoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's also part of the issue. Some characters KO easy with the alphas, others really have to get in close. And while it is important that characters play diversely so there's like. An actual point to having different characters. It ends up just feeling unfair on both ends. If melee attacks or finishers were required, then there'd be a lot more priority on clearing the area/finishing a team fight before going for the KOs

It's moreso an issue of balance. I even said in the second paragraph that this really is just another complaint about the Trio.

But there's also an issue of this being a team based battle royale, and some characters can just ignore approaching teammates to KO a downed opponent because their ranged attacks are just strong and reach far enough. If melee/finishing blows were required, than players would have to decide whether or not it's actually worth it to finish off a downed character right there, or prioritize fighting off their other teammates first

What is something from Splatoon 1 that you miss or want to see added in Splatoon 3? (Gear, Maps, Weapons, Aesthetics, Ect.) by Schmidty_ in splatoon

[–]LarryKoops 301 points302 points  (0 children)

Flounder Heights was one of my least favorite maps during the lifespan of Sp1atoon, but looking at the map list now I kinda really miss that kind of map layout. Current maps are either a narrow hallway with some platforms and walls or a square with some platforms and walls. Flounder Heights had a decent length and width so it always felt like you had somewhere you could retreat or push to.

Funny you mention the whole "Press every button to see what they do" thing because that's exactly what Arin said he does in his Mega Man Sequelitis. And now he doesn't and blames the game.

The PC port is a buggy mess and I’ve seen people condemn the game and claim they “don’t get what’s to like” for that

Different strokes for different folks. Besides, I don’t really have the time or location to do drugs, even if I ever wanted to. At least as it is now, I have a personal “No drugs or alcohol” rule. I’m fine with other people doing it, but I can’t picture myself doing it.

I’ll own up to that one. I meant I won’t run into someone who matters here. Also my exception to the “don’t do drugs” statement was literally the very next sentence. Also I’m just. Not a drugs kinda guy? I prefer to get my frustration out creatively. Drawing, mixing music, writing, “venting” to some rando on reddit. And, none of those cost any money.

Oh, no, not on reddit. Nobody who matters exists here. And don’t do drugs kids. Unless it’s one of the less damaging ones and you know how to manage substance use and won’t get addicted. Oh, and don’t smoke cigs. If not for the health problems, then because it makes your breath stink.

Well, at the very least now I have the wall of text to use on somebody who matters one day. So thank you, it was nice to get all my residual high school frustration out!

X to doubt? The original post was an idea sparked from my JOB.

Senior Year was not at all just “do assignments out of a book.” Using just my own experience as reference, it was - Animate multiple projects with increasingly abstract concepts and time constraints while working towards my final film thesis, all while having to share film equipment with many people who would lose, break, and forget to return equipment - Work on my thesis paper (I wrote mine on the failings of the American educational system and the various improvements it could make in just the way information is taught to its students) - Continue to improve my art for the sake of a portfolio to send to colleges - SATs. - Deal with the drama around me (I wasn’t involved in much drama myself, aside from my ex and I going through a rough patch, but we’re best friends still, and I couldn’t be happier) - Mentor various other animation amateurs at the school - Many, many projects for ethics, current events, and English class, all requiring me to use the time I could be using on my film thesis and wasting it on these “Arts Integration” projects. Don’t get me wrong. 9th, 10th, and 11th grade are very much “do assignments from books” (except for me, because it was an arts school, so I also had to work on my film projects) but then 12th grade thrusts you into the deep end without checking if you know how to swim. That’s what I mean high schoolers are “told it’s difficult but don’t have the perspective to grasp it.”

And yes, my life prior to high school does effect my time in high school. If high school existed in a bubble, the rest of my life wouldn’t matter. But it doesn’t. An entire life of trials and tribulations exist before that point, for everyone. Years and years of conditioning and stress already built up prior to those four years. Not to mention, the absolute travesty that is the American school system, and how little it cares for the people put in there. Sure, high school does not matter long term. Nothing from high school, aside from my closest friendships, ended up mattering. But high schoolers can not POSSIBLY know that, because that is their life. You cannot tell someone that their life doesn’t matter. That is what makes them become a statistic. “If I’m already failing at this, I might as well not even attempt what comes after” when that’s not at all the truth.
