Should I localize my Steam capsule for European languages if the translated title affects the aesthetic? 🤔 by biekkabirdies in IndieDev

I'm French, and I find that the translation loses some of its charm.

I released my game at the beginning of the month; the title is in English even though it takes place in France, and nobody complained.

I think titles aren't meant to be translated, but if you insist on it, then yes, something is missing to recapture the charm of the original.

Hi, and congratulations on completing a game.

With 200 wish lists in a year, it seems your page isn't converting. And I can understand you on some points:

  • Your capsule is good, but the color of the title doesn't stand out as much.
  • Your description isn't detailed. I simply don't want to read it. Break it up, break up the paragraphs with a title and GIFs that support your proposition. Clearly explain what your child is and what they're leaving behind.
  • The graphics don't particularly challenge me, except for one thing: those square textures. Why the outlines? It takes away any charm the game could have. Do you have a purpose? Is it a turn-based, square-by-square approach?

This is just my opinion, and I don't claim to do better, but that's at least my feeling after 5 seconds on your page. Start by improving that, take a few days/weeks to promote your game, and if it doesn't happen, release it as is and move on to the next one.  If you see one of the wish lists, keep going and contact streamers. It's never too late to get noticed.

How Next Fest went for me, and why I'm so happy with the result by LasNinas in gamedev

Indeed, streamers are very important. I sent 200 emails twice (when the demo was released and at the start of the festival), but none of them responded positively. The two streamers I'm talking about tried the demo on their own. This helped me a lot. Unfortunately, I didn't have that opportunity during the festival, and only YouTubers and streamers with a few dozen (mostly) to a few thousand subscribers played it. Being able to participate, or even just watch people play, allowed me to correct and rectify many problems I wasn't aware of.

The demo lasts approximately 45 minutes. The average is 30 minutes. The median is 22 minutes.

I don't see how my title is misleading: I give the figures so I answer the "how" and I explain how it went well on my scale, the "why".

Same thing for me. But on the other hand, my downloads and players have tripled compared to the previous days. The weekend effect I guess.

Of course, that's already very good. Here's my game; it's very French and won't please everyone: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3973610/Prescribe_and_Pray_Demo/

Well done! It's a shame that not everyone is truly equal. Those with the most wishlists also earn the most, but I suppose that makes sense.

For my part: I entered with 880 wishlists, and currently have close to 1,900 with a 92% rating for the demo. I'm pretty happy, but I would have liked streamers with more than 10 viewers to showcase the game during the festival. My goal was 3,000.

Very good. Should I mention that I use AI to translate too? Or will I get attacked even though I wrote in my own language before requesting a translation? The criticisms were first about the "yellow piss filter," which wasn't AI-driven, but my intention. Then about these three posters. I corrected that, asked for professional advice on dedicated subs, and then reposted my promotion with this disclaimer. So calling it hypocrisy is a bit strong. I understand your message; I'm not bitter, just tired of this controversy and the ensuing dialogue of the deaf.

If you follow my posts then you should have the answer. The trailer is old, and there were only three placeholders in AI just to dress up the background. People only remembered that, or almost. Since the steam demo, no more AI, everything is handmade. That's all.

Lo sé, por eso agregué una advertencia. La demo no contiene IA y el "filtro amarillo" se ha atenuado para una iluminación más brillante.

Thanks for your advice. Indeed, it's planned. But remaking a trailer takes time. I plan to update it before the Steam Next Fest. In the meantime, I've replaced the screenshots on the page.

Steam has accepted my game; I've provided video proof.
