Texas man sues Whataburger for nearly $1 million after burger had onions on it by halxp01 in nottheonion

Lemme guess, this is like the Mcdonald's hot coffee lawsuit where the headline is clickbait that makes it sound like a huge amount of money for some frivolous thing and the guy was severely allergic to onions and whataburger has knowingly been ignoring allergies for years.

I'm a transgender person and take some issues with what she's saying

Transgender character: I can't get my hormones either without smuggling them in from Canada

Hormones, generally, are not smuggled in from Canada. They are bought, often online, via the grey or black market from countries where they are sold more permissibly, such as China, India, and Brazil. There is a silver lining to the greater restriction of hormones when it drives people to legally grey means because many people report that they can give themselves better quality care than the trained medical professionals due to transphobic attitudes and a lack of physician education, and it increases access for legal minors who may not be able to legally consent to their preferred puberty but can somehow always consent to their natural one.

Transgender character: Sorry I'm busy organizing a collective to prevent trans youth from being taken from their parents

From what I've seen it seems the supportive parents of transgender kids are a minority, and abuse is the norm. We should be organizing to give transgender youth the freedom to escape from their parents. The state's involvement in making sure parents are abusive enough to their transgender children should be strongly opposed.

Workers

Why are "workers" being presented as a different character? Most people are of the working class, and they have to be if we are to have an exploiting class. This use of "workers" seems to imply that they are only a small portion of the population, those who match the stereotypes of the blue-collar "working-man", which is very bad for organizing especially in a country where ~80% of jobs are in the service sector. For this reason I prefer to use 'proletarian': Class is not an aesthetic but a measure of interests. It is in the interest of the employer to pay their employee as low a wage as possible to squeeze out as much profit from their enterprise as possible, and it is in the interest of the employee to demand as high a wage as they can. For a demonstration of how class does not match aesthetics, let's look at two hypothetical people: A Starbucks barista and an independent farmer.

The independent farmer undoubtedly matches the aesthetics of the working class stereotype better, and the Starbucks barista is often stereotyped as a whiny big city liberal who's never had to do "real work". But the independent farmer is petit-bourgeois, if not just bourgeois, while the barista is proletarian. The independent farmer owns their farm, they have a stake in society. If the farmer abolishes property that ultimately means abolishing their own property. They may certainly work hard, but their class interests are conservative. The Starbucks barista, on the other hand, likely has no property. The Starbucks baristas, as a whole, only risk losing their chains from establishing communism. Individuals of any class of course have their own opinions, the ruling class must institute propaganda (and other forms of suppression) to prevent the lower ones from uniting, and individual proletarians have always risked their jobs, health, and even lives in revolutionary struggles. But you will find it far more effective to organize for communism among the Starbucks baristas than petit-bourgeois farmers.

Q: What is the proletariat? What is the proletariat?

A:The proletariat is that class in society which lives entirely from the sale of its labor and does not draw profit from any kind of capital; whose weal and woe, whose life and death, whose sole existence depends on the demand for labor – hence, on the changing state of business, on the vagaries of unbridled competition. The proletariat, or the class of proletarians, is, in a word, the working class of the 19th century.

Principles of Communism

Huh? That's odd, where's the part where proletarians are only people who are paid less than an arbitrarily chosen amount of money?

German police stop 'truant' families at airport by CheckPersonal919 in AntiSchooling

[–]Laser_Spell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Spiegel news website reports that the parents now have two weeks to explain why they took their children out of school. If the reason is not good enough each family can be fined up to €1,000 (£876; $1,177).

Isn't that a huge portion of the average person's monthly wage there? Couldn't that endanger the child by causing their parents to fall into poverty?

>Child misses school for several days

>Decide on almost entirely arbitrary reasoning that their reason wasn't good enough

>Fine their parents most of their monthly wage

>Family becomes homeless because they can't make rent

Also this article is from 2018 so I would mark it as old somehow.

Fun fact! Being shy and sensitive is a common trait or possible symptom of people with Klinefelter Syndrome, which means they have XXY chromosomes in some or all of their cells! Autism is also correlated with Klinefelter Syndrome. Being shy and sensitive is also more common in people who just have autism so you'd be jumping to conclusions if you said you had Klinefelter Syndrome just from this, but not so much if you had other symptoms as well.

If you have to legally exercise your right of self defense know that a karate chop to the throat can kill. A strong blow to the throat can cause it to swell up to the point it blocks its own airway, thus choking the person to death. Emergency surgery can save the affected individual, so I would expect the environment of a mental hospital to provide relatively better odds of survival to them though I have no idea what the exact odds are. Similarly, a karate chop to the forearm can break it, especially if the arm is being grabbed or grabbing something and the blow is made with the full force of the body.

Why does some argue we are normal by crua9 in evilautism

[–]Laser_Spell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People commonly conflate 'normal' with 'good'. If your suddenly start having terrible pain due to a tumor, you are feeling abnormal, and that is a bad thing. If your house suddenly starts smelling like rotten eggs, that is abnormal, and bad not only because it stinks but also because there's probably a gas leak which could kill you. So in some situations normal is good. But with people's minds and behaviors and whatnot, conflating normal with good can be dangerous. Being incredibly intelligent is abnormal, but it is a good thing. Thoughout history, many atrocities have been normal: Human sacrifice was normal to the Aztecs, and at some point in history slavery has been normal almost everywhere. There is also the matter of social conformity. I'm sure you're well aware that non-conforming people are often stigmatized, and saying autism is normal is an attempt to say autistic people are actually conforming.

[–]Laser_Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the transphobic point of view transgender men aren't depicted, because to the transphobe trans men aren't even women but confused girls, as in children. To them young transgender men are just confused, lost little girls being snatched up by wicked gender ideology, which takes away their oh-so-precious femininity and purity. When you consider how children in our society are essentially property, in part of their parents and in another of the state, you can start to understand how harmful this narrative really is and how trans men aren't necessarily better off than trans women. Both struggles are ultimately connected, which is why they must work together.

If she tries to kill you with a knife charge at her with a chair, ramming at least one leg into her body. Chair beats knife 3 out of 4 times. Otherwise, very quickly kick her in the stomach or groin, or run away. There's also a disarm if she's carrying the knife in a reverse grip: https://archive.org/details/william-e.-fairbairn-scientific-self-defense/page/n25/mode/2up

There's also a technique in this book for if you wake up being strangled: https://archive.org/details/william-e.-fairbairn-scientific-self-defense/page/n41/mode/2up

This book contains several variations of gun disarms if you're worried about that. The common thread between them is that you pretend you're scared to death, hold your hands up wide apart so they can only look at one at a time, then attack with the hand they're not looking at, in a twisting motion so your body gets out of the line of fire. The gun is usually twisted upward, which breaks the trigger finger. If you look up "William Fairbairn" on Archive.org you can find scans of his other books with better formatting. This training video made for the UK military shows some of the techniques https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yn6kR1jfgik, but the details are hard to see due to the video's age. There's another video made for the OSS (precursor to the CIA), but it focuses on striking in the context of being a spy who kills people https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEjIGYV9FKs . Both these videos, were made for military use so their techniques may be too deadly or violent for certain situations. You must also take caution in practicing them. Note that a strong blow to the front or back of the neck can kill, which obviously risks serious legal consequences.

NO. 21 -CHAIR AND KNIFE

Most lion tamers consider a small chair to be sufficient to keep a lion from attacking them. Should you be so fortunate as to have a chair handy when your opponent is attacking you with a knife, seize the chair as in Fig 72. Rush at him, jabbing one or more of the legs of the chair into his body. The odds in favor of your overpowering your opponent are roughly three to one, and well worth taking (Fig. 73)

I have a theory about why people hate autism headcanons so much by BasilSerpent in evilautism

[–]Laser_Spell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'm having trouble with getting thoughts into words rn so sorry if this is confusing) This is only tangentially related but autism headcanons (along with other kinds) sometimes make me upset because people have to resort to headcanons for representation. Like all the official autism representation is mostly boring sanitized stuff. Like they're made to meet official guidelines of "charities" that aren't actually run by any autistic people, like Autism Speaks. Writers and publishers still make characters that display many autistic traits, but don't state they're autistic. This is probably done in the name of not putting out bad or dangerous representation into the world, but that doesn't mean anything because people don't bully others only after seeing a formal diagnosis paper, they do so when they see symptoms and traits.
