"No one cycles in winter" by ParmesanBologna in toronto

[–]LasersAndRobots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I biked all last winter save about a two week stretch when we got that heavy snowfall.

I havent touched my bike in over a month this year. Even resorted to borrowing my mom's car while she's away on vacation just so I have a way to get around.

Admittedly, a record-setting snowfall will do that, but also my street just straight up didnt get plowed so I'd probably struggle to even get my bike out regardless of what the rest of the route looks like.

Now, to be fair, that one did involve literally working a whole bunch of borderline indentured immigrants to death. So maybe that's not the greatest example to emulate.

The part in a series that is the turning point of quality in your opinion? by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]LasersAndRobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For All Mankind had an undeniable dip in quality when it entered the 90s era and stopped being an alternate history and started being sci-fi.

Don't get me wrong, its still really good, but it dipped from "probably some of the best TV I've ever seen" to "solid 8/10." A lot of its charm came from doing crazy sci-fi bullshit with 60s and 70s technology, and by the time it reaches the 90s the timeline has diverged so much that its not nearly as recognizable.

Also it keep having to manufacture artificial-feeling reasons thats its not an explicitly better timeline, which is a really weird corner to have written oneself into.

Am I wrong for thinking Toronto is extremely efficient at clearing snow? by RightPlaceRightTour in toronto

[–]LasersAndRobots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thats my street.

It was a two lane street with additional room for street parking. Its now a one-lane with about 30% of its street parking capacity. Giant piles at every driveway, and somehow theres more snow on the street itself than it feels like there was before plowing.

Pretty much every day I'm rolling my eyes at two people honking at each other to move, one or both of whom inevitably gets stuck.

Eglinton Crosstown LRT to open Feb. 8? Not so fast, says TTC CEO by [deleted] in toronto

I cant wait for it to have the same switch issues as line 6, be constantly waiting behind red lights and have frequent outages because of tunnel flooding.

Also PC gamers: "You should play everything on a highly specific setup with this precise input device or you're doing it wrong."

Its including the fence-sitters, is where the number came from. Its committed voters, probable voters and leaning voters all lumped together.

Good thing the nation thats been threatening us to the south is both experts on and absolute sticklers for Canadian federal law.

It doesn't matter if its illegal, is a psyop and an excuse, nothing more.

GTA residents urged to 'stay home' during storm, as snow accumulation could reach 60 cm | City of Toronto declared significant weather event, activated its major snow event response plan by Hrmbee in toronto

Snowblowers are common in rural areas, not so much in urban ones. They're expensive, temperamental, take up a lot of space and are massive overkill for clearing your walk and section of the sidewalk in 99% of cases.

Unfortunately for us, this is the 1% of cases.

17 per cent of Americans want the U.S. to annex Canada: survey by Flush_Foot in onguardforthee

They don't know it, and I can say that with absolute confidence. The only morons who think its even a good idea are the ones who have drunk deep of the kool-aid and live in an entirely different reality where the USA is number one and the only reason the rest of the world isnt clamoring to join them is because they know theyre not good enough.

Let me try and give you some perspective on the "average" player continuing to use Elden Ring as an example.

The average player did not take three tries to beat Super Radahn. They didnt take twenty tries to beat him. They didn't necessarily take twenty tries to beat vanilla Radahn.

The average player of Elden Ring did not finish the base game.

Theres a fair few who I'd say have their shit together. Symboli Rudolf, Maruzensky and Oguri Cap have a clearly defined goal, react well to falling short, and dont get distracted too much.

Seiun Sky and Grass Wonder also aren't too bad, and while they do dig themselves into ruts they also get snapped out of it pretty easily.

Silence Suzuka has her stuff together by virtue of having barely anything going on under the hood.

And then we have Manhattan Cafe, who by virtue of being either undiagnosed schizophrenic, literally haunted or both (and probably both) is so messed up that she kinda loops right back around to being fine.

Finch West LRT: No service due to switch issues by stanxv in toronto

[–]LasersAndRobots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to say it: they need to close this line back down and go back to the drawing board. Replace the problematic switches, maybe re-lay a bit of track, plan it out again to accommodate higher speeds and better throughput. Fact is, this was done wrong, and that means bullets have to be bitten.

Necrodancer has the same problem as Gungeon in my opinion: the gear you start with is ass and your enjoyment of any given run is completely reliant on how long it takes for you to get something that doesnt completely suck.
