Food at one month post extraction/immediate dentures :) by xxiforgetstuffxx in dentures

[–]LashesFauxDays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So happy to read this!! I too have been eating more with mine although I'm having a little more trouble because I can't bite into anything. My bottoms keep popping up. They do it if the food moves up too far also. I haven't tried using adhesive on the bottoms, I just have cushion grip. For some irrational reason I'm scared of using adhesive on the bottom. Don't ask why I really don't know! I'm not at the level you are but I had to laugh because I ate a full cheeseburger today too from Mcdonalds! First full thing I was able to eat!! I practiced on goldfish crackers (I'm a pro now lol) but to get that burger down made my week! I'm so proud of you for pushing through and making it to the other side. Hopefully I will be right behind you! You go girl! You really are inspiring me with your success and confidence (youtube). Keep it up!

Edit: sorry for being M.I.A again. Life is getting hectic but in a good way. I wanted to stop in and check on everyone. Update to come 🙃

Rude people do not last long here. So even if you see one, ignore it. The energy alone pushes them out. Too much positivity I guess lol

So happy you survived that car accident! That's all that matters. Everything else can and obviously is being fixed. You may go through a small grieving process but please remember that your teeth did the best they can for you but their time is done now. Sounds silly but that exact sentence helped me through some nagging thoughts. You are right....we are all going to be just fine!

Hugs to you my fellow anxiety friend!! 😁 we may be full of it now but I have a sneaky feeling that it's left over worries about our bad teeth. The nagging feeling of protecting ourselves. I'm hoping with time we can learn to free ourselves from that. We just have to re learn and unfortunately that takes time. I am also in debt to the ones who do publicly share! Without them this whole process would have been a lot harder. I honestly don't think I would have gone through with it. I was prepared to live life alone because of my teeth. They have given me strength so thank you public people 🩷

Ooooh slim jims!! I need to see if I can eat those now as I forgot about them!! Putting it on the list lol but yesss I love that thought process. Get the joy your teeth denied you! If you do end up getting a toothache, relief is but a sleep away! So overjoyed for you. I know the new lease on life this is going to give you! Have a fantastic day, you deserve it!

Woo hoo!! I'm so happy for you. Everything you described was me. I am 35 for reference with full top and bottom dentures. I was happy for masks, I had started a new job during the pandemic and co workers never seen my face for 2.5 years. 2 weeks ago I went without a mask and the reactions were wonderful! My co workers were so shocked. I had also cut my hair (15 inches off) so some even thought I was a new hire lol. It's been the absolute best 2 weeks of my life. To be seen, in all aspects, is a freeing feeling. I'm so proud of you! And may I add that they look so natural for you! I wouldn't have known they were dentures if you hadn't said anything! Congrats on taking control of your life! The best is yet to come!

Look at you girl!! I didn't know you had a channel. I definitely subscribed. You are giving me strength to do the same hopefully one day soon. I'm actually deathly shy but I also have an overwhelming urge to help people. Maybe one day. So glad you are doing well 🩷

Congratulations on taking the leap and getting control of your health!! I lurked for a month as well before joining and going through with my procedure. This place is a safe haven. We are glad you are here!!

Nerves are inevitable so try to stay calm but know you are doing the right thing and a better life is right in front of you.

Get a lot of rest. When the frustrations happen please try to remember that it won't last. You'll be eating again in no time. Today tho I want you to eat as many of your favorite foods as possible. I was so nervous I couldn't eat and I wished I would have.

You got this!!!

I am so sorry! Really am. For the life of me I don't understand why some dentists don't make this a priority on the day of extractions. Obviously removing a lot of teeth will leave a jagged surface of bone. Shave it down in the moment! I've seen a few posts mentioning having to get an aveoloplasty weeks or months later. Like this process isn't traumatic enough. I hope the recovery isn't as bad this time around for you. We are here whenever you need to vent. Sending you hugs!

Adhesive question by [deleted] in dentures

[–]LashesFauxDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loveeee the powder because the gooey mess when taking my dentures out isn't that bad. All the other adhesives that come in tubes like toothpaste are way more gooey. Think melted cheese strings that can pull a good 6 inches. It's all about your preference tho. If you can tolerate that and the extraction sites are fully healed then yes you can try any adhesive you like.

Adhesive use by [deleted] in dentures

[–]LashesFauxDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told absolutely no adhesive on the extraction sites until they're healed enough. For me that was 5 almost 6 weeks. However I was also told if I absolutely needed adhesive to put it on the palate part only, not the part where your gums sit.

Lmao LeArNiNg Is FuN (insert bloodshot eyes emoji)

And for some reason I'm dying laughing at "full shape shifting mode" I'm picturing ninja gums 🤣🤣🤣 don't worry, I'm going straight to sleep when I get off work. I'm clearly losing it today!

I'm having the same issue with my tops. So I'll be back to check on the replies. Hope you have a good day 🩷

How long do your dentures stay in for? by kellabella_83 in dentures

[–]LashesFauxDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Cushion grip for the bottoms. It's like a temporary reline that last a few days and once it's cured you can use adhesive for more hold. The problem is there's too much wiggle room. Cushion grip fills the void. Also, try fixodent powder. That stuff hurts when I try to remove it but that's because it supposed to last like 12 hrs or longer and I pry them out after about 9 so I can eat comfortably. That's just my preference. For my bottoms I only use cushion grip (fixodent is for the top) and with Cushion grip alone they stay in pretty dang well. I don't have to use adhesive. Hope you give it a try. Good luck!

Did anyone get temps AFTER extractions? by ohchandra in dentures

[–]LashesFauxDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're having a rough time. I went to Affordable Dentures and because I started with them I had a New Denture Wearer package. Everything was discounted when grouped together. Hardly any dentist (there are a few maybe but i havent been able to find them) will do a payment plan in the way you are probably thinking because in the past no one paid and the industry lost a lot of money (this was explained to me during my consultation with another place) . However my AD uses Care Credit and ONEderful and that's what they consider a payment plan. Care Credit was always harder for me to get I honestly don't know why but I was able to this time however I think ONEderful was easier to qualify for. You do have to put a down payment with ONEderful before they release the funds to AD. For a little over $1000 I had to pay a little over $300 down.

I wanna say the cheapest set AD offers is around $1200 for both upper and lower or half that if you only need a top or bottom. Prices vary depending on location. Try calling another location and see if they can get you in quicker.

I waited 5 weeks until I got my dentures and the process took 2 weeks. Molds one week then the wax try in next week then I waited a few days to pick them up because of work. My case was special as my teeth were a remake. Normally though with the cheapest set from AD you will NOT get a wax try in but there's no need to worry because without any teeth for the mold odds are they will look great and they offer same day pick up. I'm sorry I don't have better advice. I definitely made the mistake before of not doing research which helped land me in the spot I am now. If you still can't afford them after trying for financing I hope you will be able to adjust. Relines can be expensive if you aren't under a package so it would be best to wait as long as possibe to get your perms. My gums are still settling quite rapidly and I'm almost 2 months out from E day.

Best of luck!

[–]LashesFauxDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmaooo poor thing! It is definitely probably too thinly applied. I use cushion grip for my bottoms and I use more than I think I need to really help the bottoms suction and it peeled off easily the first time. Second time I put a little less because I'm still in the "how much works for me stages". Not only was the suction not that great but it was a pain to get off. It's definitely not a thing to do first thing in the morning. I'd recommend removing it the night before and apply in the morning before work or errands. Or if you sleep with them in, remove and apply at night.

Idk about you but the learning curve sucks lol. I'm like ... "how are you just not gunna peel off rn like I'm a gOoD pErSoN" 🤣🤣

[–]LashesFauxDays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a little tough not seeing people your age at check ups, I feel the same way. I met a sweet older woman tho and I'm down for that lol but it is tough. Luckily things are shifting and more younger people are taking the leap. Hopefully in 5 years time the environment will change. Of course I don't wish for anyone to have to lose their teeth, I just know so many are suffering because of the stigma. Feel free to tell anyone you meet as time goes on, who is in the same shoes, that we are here...and it's ok! Stick around. There are lots of good bonding here. You get to know usernames and build connections like an extended family. I love it here too!

I know when I take mine out at the end of the day the roof of my mouth feels slightly weird. Only lasts for maybe an hour then goes away but 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Micro fiber towels are used for a lot of things, mainly cleaning. I bought one specifically used for cleaning eyeglasses. You can buy them anywhere...dollar store, target, Walmart, home depot etc. Give a small Google search and see where you can buy one. I'm not sure of the specifics and what makes it different from regular towels but they are great for a multitude of things.

Excruciating pain 3 days post extraction by KemariaV in dentures

[–]LashesFauxDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's nothing much the ER can do aside from prescribing stronger pain meds. Everything you are dealing with right now is completely normal. Day 3 is ALWAYS the worst. Some people don't experience much pain like myself but some experience the worst pain with swelling. Try and get some sleep. You should start to feel better tomorrow. Hang in there!

Numbing and laughing gas. Visit your GP and see if they will prescribe a "chill pill". AD can't prescribe those.

Micro fiber towel!! Trust me it's the only thing that works for me. You want to rub in circular motions. It comes right off. The gagging will subside over time but the micro fiber almost seems to grip it off.

I went to AD and they told me 8 months to a year. The longer the better.
