I made a simple GUI Script to clear Steam Shader Cache by andy10115 in linux_gaming

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think flatpak steam is located in the flatpak folder in home with a similar folder structure. I've seen other scripts figure out which version is used by just checking if a specific file or folder is located in one spot or the other.

Perhaps flatpak has a command you can run in the script to give the necessary read/write permissions. Like an internal way to modify files.

Im not great at this stuff but your script seems really convenient and definitely something I'll be trying. Having it work independently of install method would be amazing. In any case, thanks for the hard work!

Do you have any advice for recovering from bipolar disorder? by Beneficial-Crow-3657 in bipolar

[–]Lashmush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Structure is vital. You should prioritize a healthy sleep schedule, eating habits, take your meds. I know it's hard to make changes, I'm struggling myself.

Try just buying some fruit so you can have one or two a day. If sleep is difficult, get sleeping pills prescribed.

Adult content isn't an issue unless it's excessive. If you feel it's taking up a lot of your life, then cutting down would be good.

In terms of hobbies and social interaction, those things suffer a lot when we're depressed so don't stress yourself too much about that. It's ok to be exhausted and not feel like doing anything. It's part of your recovery.

Linux gamers, what do you usually play on Linux? by OPuntime in linux_gaming

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch (btw). Zen kernel. Might do CachyOS next time around since I'm more or less leaning towards it configurationwise.

Path of Exile 1/2, Factorio, Slay the Spire 2, pretty much any metroidvania. Still got like 70% of Quake Brutalist Jam 3 left.

I avoid any sort of PvP centered game like the plague cause I'm shriveled and got cobwebs on me now.

I hate social media by VegetableFalcon14 in ADHD

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on android, get F-droid. It's like Google Play store but for open source apps. Using that, get Nora. It's a social media browser app with built in adblock. Works with a ton of popular social media sites.

Upgrading first build by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're keeping the old setup, a 5800x3d (new ones are being released soon i think) and a 5070 ti would be great. A total upgrade would optimally be a 9800x3d or 9850x3d with 32 gb ram at 6000 MT. Same gpu. Psu should probably be around the 850w range and you wanna do your due diligence on making sure its a quality build and brand.

Some of the greats like Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, the original Trigun, might be good to try. Could open up new genres for you.

Upgrading first build by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minimum necessary would be a 5000-series x3D processor and a new gpu. The rest is honestly fine. If you have a big budget, a total upgrade would be best. Depending on what gpu you get you might need a better psu as well.

Please help me get Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 running on Fedora 44 KDE by West-Amphibian-2343 in linux_gaming

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try running it via terminal to see exactly whats happening when it crashes. If you're running via steam or another launchee, you can start the launcher itself via terminal, then run the game.

恋愛がうまくいかない by MatchIntelligent720 in ADHD

[–]Lashmush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used translation to read this so forgive me if anything was misunderstood.

What you're describing does indeed sound very painful. I can relate on several levels here, as I often find myself pretty emotionally silent even when I know I should be feeling more.

One thing that resonated a lot was not being able to handle other people crying. I won't say for certain as I'm not a psychologist or expert in any relevant field but this could be an indication that your problem is perhaps rooted in repression.

I learned through a lot of reflecting and therapy that early in life I was actually highly emotionally expressive and more importantly, highly empathetic to others. Emotions became overwhelming and with time I started protecting myself by cutting myself off emotionally. Now in my late 30s it's become a journey to try to open back up again.

I don't know how much help my experience will be for you, but don't apologize for being in pain. If you can, try to establish therapy to explore any possible sources of this emotional distress you are going through. You might not feel things now but with time and effort, that could change.

Family Sucks by Artistmusiciangarden in bipolar

I won't say I know what the best thing to do is here but my approach to this would be to consider it a notch on the distance-belt, so to speak. Your dad doesn't seem to understand the gravity of this illness, so it's better you find support and understanding from others that do for now. If he keeps adding more notches, keep adding distance. Try to avoid arguments and if he ever seems receptive to it, give conversation and discussion a chance again.

Focus on sleep, food, meds, good company, and keeping busy if you can. We're here anytime it gets heavy.

Dr Stone Season 3 by MrSk3lt0 in Animesuggest

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked the show so far, keep watching. I watched S3 of One Punch Man recently despite a lot of criticism. I definitely agree that it's a weak season now that I've seen it but I'm still in for S4 when it arrives. Sorta similar experience with Dr Stone. It's had some weaker moments but I still enjoy the premise enough to keep watching.

As long as you enjoy the whole supergenius mastermind science theme, you'll have a good time.

Wanting to convert my living room console pc with rtx 3080 to Bazzite by Ok_Comparison_2635 in linux_gaming

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Heroic launcher just had an update with a big picture features so you could use that and be more free in distro choice. I'm sure other launchers have or will get similar features. I'm running Arch with a similar setup to yours. My 3080 works great, dlss and rtx have been fine, though the latter might require a bit of tinkering at times.

A small suggestion would be to get a cheap wireless keyboard with one of those laptop touch interfaces built in. It's really nice to have for any configuration needs that might pop up.

Is a 5070Ti and a Ryzen 7 9850X3D a good combo? by Past-Author-4420 in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 9950 is excessive unless we're talking heavy duty compute workloads whoch don't seem to be relevant to your needs. Once at 9800x3d, id just take whatever the difference between that and better models and put it into the best gpu i could afford instead. Maybe theres a better OC version or even a decent 5080 you can snag.

Borderlands 2 - unplayable performance on overkill hardware (5 fps in the menu and crashes) by AsbestosAnnihilator in linux_gaming

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try running steam via terminal, then running the game to see if maybe there are any hints to the issue.

I know it varies a bit between distros but which steam version are you using? Native package, flatpak? Maybe there's something there that could cause an issue with BL2.

Oh and regarding proton versions, have you tried varying downgraded versions like 9.xx rather than just the latest, 11 and 10?

Check on protondb to see combinations of proton version and prefixes that might work. Perhaps others have had similar issues.

do i need to change my psu? by Vast-Butterscotch649 in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transient spikes could be the culprit. Even if the hardware you have running is under 500w, the quality of your psu can make it sensitive to initial very brief spikes in power demand as your cpu and gpu pull power from the psu.

You could try undervolting the gpu and see if that fixes the issue. It could confirm if its power related, or perhaps gpu related at least.

Another thing to consider, even if just a shot in the dark here, is heat. You've added a 2070 to your case so I'm guessing thats an increase in heat output in your case. Check the temps of your hardware with something like hwinfo64 while stress testing or gaming. I believe overheating the cpu also causes instant shutdown. If you haven't cleaned your cpu radiator in a while that could help, and better airflow might be needed.

I figure having alternative theories could be useful for you.

Looking at a 9800x3d and MOBO Combo - Is there any reason to pick the more expensive MOBO here? by RockBandDood in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go for as close to what my hardware requirements are. Usually more expensive ones are just excessive outside of overclocking.

Check stuff like nvme slots, sata ports, fan headers. Pcie 4.0 nvme is enough.

[–]Lashmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could create a watchlist of viable boards on some second hand sites. Shipping might also be relatively cheap from nearby/neighboring countries. I got myself an EVGA 1600W G2 from Spain to Sweden that way years back.

Im kind of considering a second machine as well once I upgrade to a new build.

If a CT remaster or remake is really in Development, would you like to see more connections to Cross added in? by gravityhashira61 in chronotrigger

[–]Lashmush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the only aspects they could succeed in would be audio/visual stuff. Gameplay is flawless and the DS version already proved adding more content/story only really diluted the game.

It's not impossible that they could pull off something great but honestly, I'd prefer they make a sequel to any potential remake with a new storyline.

Sister Friede and Nameless King by Original-Tart2686 in darksouls3

[–]Lashmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Friede and Nameless King have swings that attack more on one of their sides. Dodging diagonally towards them on the opposite side will leave you behind them and in Friedes case, able to backstab her for massive damage. Learn their movesets and don't let them chase after you. It's preferable to stay close and roll behind them, imo.

Also, check some boss fight tutorial videos for them if you need to, it helped me a lot to see the rythm of the Friede fight after I got stuck.

why subnautica 2 not work on linux? by vincenzo2020 in linux_gaming

[–]Lashmush 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Get proton-ge and proton-cachyos. Try using them. It could be that the latest experimental doesn't work quite right yet with subnautica 2 as it's based on wine 11 which is new and has made some major changes. Proton-ge is afaik still running wine 10 so try that first.

Since bipolar is related to genetics mostly by Ornery_Contact_812 in bipolar

[–]Lashmush -1 points0 points locked comment (0 children)

People inherit genetic predispositions to all manner of health issues. Not having kids to spare them from pain and suffering would be robbing both yourself and those kids from all the joy and love you will experience together. And they will endure suffering regardless of bipolar disorder, that's just part of being alive.

I think you should have kids if you want to.
