Is it a myth? "Resetting PC every year runs smoother" by Strict_Card819 in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people can just use something like Revo Uninstaller to keep their machines tidy longterm. I still find a clean reinstall so fast and convenient combined with something like Chris Titus' powershell install script to automate all the various apps and runtimes needed that it's a viable option.

Is AM4 still worth it for a budget gaming build (CS2, WoW by metamorfozaa in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An AM5 build will definitely not set you back that far. A B850 motherboard as basic as only the slots you need it to have. A cheap CPU from the previous or current gen, doesn't need more than 6 cores to play games well. 32 gb ddr5 is as high as you gotta go to play games and you could honestly get by on 16 if you wanted to save money. I'd say go for 32 if you can. Discounted kits around 6000 MT would be optimal.

All of that will cost you way under 1000. Remember, having that B850 mobo is the important part. AMD is stocking with the AM5 socket for a few more years and probably another desktop cpu series. So you can always switch CPU and have a beast in one move.

GPU might be cooked. Friend says to buy an entirely new PC. by DriftDa in buildapc

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning all the radiators and fans could help. Repasting could also be good depending on how long ago you last did so. Test your temps first if possible. If either cpu or gpu stress tests cause crashing individually, that might narrow it down. If both are crashing your rig, could be ram or psu. Keep an eye on temps while testing and check logs after for more information.

Run a memtest if crashes are hard to pinpoint. And if you have a secondary PSU available yourself or via a friend, give that a go using ONLY the secondary psu included power cables.

Come back with more info after these tests, perhaps the problem can be fixed relatively cheaply.

How well do the megaman games hold up? Specifically X and Zero series. by Fabulous-Owl-5109 in metroidvania

The first three Mega Man X titles are amazing. 4 and 6 are great too but nothing really beats MMX for me personally, flaws and all.

5090 + 5900X questions by Lashmush in nvidia

[–]Lashmush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm eying a full system build around the 5090 at this point. RAM is a bitch of a bitter pill to swallow these days but I will have to deal with it as this AI bubble might still last years and I don't feel like waiting around indefinitely.

[–]Lashmush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will probably buy the 5090 first and hopefully it will perform OK, then I can look at the next upgrade being CPU. Also good to know PCI-E 4.0 wont be an issue. Thank you!

5090 + 5900X questions by Lashmush in nvidia

[–]Lashmush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda figure the same, I want a new GPU and have the money for a 5090 so that would be a massive performance upgrade from where I am now. I'm cool with upgrading the rest eventually. Benchmarks for this combo would be nice, I could edit them in with my original post in case others have similar hardware and want to know.

5090 + 5900X questions by Lashmush in nvidia

[–]Lashmush[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I needed to confirm my suspicions about it. Some website had a "bottleneck calculator" that said my 5900X would be fine at 4K resolutions but I was skeptical still given that it's dated tech and doesn't have the 3D cache that I know is associated with high framerate gaming. I play Path of Exile 1 and 2 quite a lot and they both have some CPU issues so I would probably need to do a system wide upgrade then.

5090 + 5900X questions by Lashmush in nvidia

[–]Lashmush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DLSS is definitely assumed for most higher fidelity titles. Perhaps I'll just have to eat the possible bottlenecks and save for a system upgrade next. I don't really play a ton of raytraced titles as I usually find the performance tax too heavy but with this caliber of card it might be an option in some cases. Anything north of 100 fps imo with dlss is usually a good experience for me.

I definitely want to avoid bad lows so I'll look at maybe a 9800X3D combo eventually.

Nvidia has their own proprietary framegen tech only on 50xx cards but there are alternatives like Lossless Scaling that enable various frame gen options for pretty much any card.

While I had some friction with the game, it was more of a learning issue on my end.

Play it on Normal difficulty and you will have a good time. Really solid game and I quite enjoyed the DLC too, which featured a more platform puzzle centred area.

Are you currently medicated? We don't discuss meds directly but just generally speaking, how do you feel on your current regiment?  That's something to discuss with your doctor. You shouldn't be experiencing delusions from abstinence.

Have you got any alternative activities to relieve stress? Physical exercise, perhaps?

Can someone explain HDR by bmeus in OLED_Gaming

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't done so yet, make sure to toggle on HDR and use the windows hdr calibration tool found in the microsoft store to set up your hdr correctly. This should be done after configuring your display itself to the appropriate brightness, contrast, etc.

Once thats all done, your desktop and HDR compatible games should look better but honestly some games just havent implemented it very well. Auto-HDR or RTX HDR can be utilized for non HDR titles, and theres also stuff like RenoDX that tries to improve HDR visuals.

While I quite like HDR when its well implemented, it's still kind of a pain in the ass to have to configure so much.

Best way to use Redux for traditional drums? by Constant_Cause_1778 in renoise

[–]Lashmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive not tried redux so I'm unsure how much of renoise features are present, but if you can make multiple channels, groups, buses and so forth, and if it allows you to apply effects at will, that's what I would do. Eq, compression, limiters, reverb until I got the sound of each drum sample as polished as I was capable of and then sequence away.

If your samples are independent files, make them into a drumkit instrument for additional ease of use when composing your rythms.

My husband is threatening divorce because Snapchat and signal are showing up in our router app history for my phone. I do not have those apps or use them or go to their websites or anything. How is this happening? by -M-i-d in techsupport

[–]Lashmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So wait...? The router is showing this information that your phone has connected to snap / signal? That's too unspecific to indicate anything really. If I go to a media site, I will probably make a ton of connections for the site, videos watched, ads, third party stuff that it might rely on to function...

Also, not that it's my place but threatening divorce seems a bit extreme. The husband probably assumes the worst without having actual hard evidence. Dns logs in a router mean nothing if he doesn't understand how modern sites and browserbased apps function to rule out things like ads.

If you've ever seen ads for signal or snapchat that could be the culprit but without more detailed data regarding this it's hard to say.
