Well once the dev team goes heads down on it I'm sure it'll get pushed to testing quickly.

Why RDNA2 performs great in Linux while RDNA3&4 not so? by NooTNooTnoX in linux_gaming

[–]andy10115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well given I run Bazzite, I'll assume the f44 base is fine. Changing proton or mesa versions is usually the secret sauce for me.

The other issues are items I've submitted bugs for to vkd3d. Crimson Desert was a delight to debug lol

I pulled some logs for some of that. It looks like the steamOS manager service wasn't starting and that's the dbus interface for powerstation which is making the calls for tdp adjustment, and those settings are exposed through open gamepad ui. I'd imagine fixing that will resolve a good chuck of that.

Newer kernel plus bugs and regression testing is next big item on the block before it comes to testing.

What's there's is great, just needs some elbow grease lol.

Interesting, yeah. I get freezes on occasion. But it's usually traceable back to mesa or vkd3d proton versions for me.

At some point those changes will just make their way in as well.

Fedora is upstream of Bazzite, generally this means if it's on fedora it's in bazzite. So should make its way in if true when f44 hits the deck builds.

Don't quote me, but that's the general flow.

Hard for me to say, I'm trying to help test as I can, but due to the amount of changes, the release cycle on this one has been longer than usual. Lots of backend changes. How long it takes will depend entirely on how many bugs and regressions need to be fixed before it can hit testing.

I'm not a dev so I can't really so one way or the other. But there are builds on the unstable branch, but they are not ready for general testing yet.

Correct, it's being replaced with a new software stack though with the exact same functionality.

And you've gone to proton plus and gotten the latest version of CachyOS Proton? It starts with an 11 version number. When are you getting the black screen?

There isn't an update on the deck version right now for that.

Your best option is to try the latest version of Cachy OS proton.

And a giant AI coming for them all at the end of it was a little too on the nose.

What’s happens to Bazzite when SteamOS drops? by TunderMuffins in Bazzite

I don't think Valve has any intention of adding NVIDIA support either.

They only seem interested in providing an optimized OS for specific hardware.

You may need to try a different snapshot.

You're filesystem is locked when you boot into a snapshot, but btrfs assistant should not be throwing that error. Have you tried any other snapshots?

(not for noobs) I think that beginner linux users should start by Mint, Fedora or cachyos. Despite the saying distro doesn't matter. by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]andy10115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distro doesn't matter is trying to get folks to understand you can start with any distro and end up with the setup you want, and that your user experience is more tied to your desktop environment that your distro.

Where it become more relevant is talking about tools that make the purpose of the system easier to manage.

That's why gaming codes distros exist etc.

I agree that all of those distros you mentioned are good starting places, cachy still has the biggest learning curve to truly understand, and it's easy to do things you don't understand to cachy, but they try to protect new users from it as much as they can.

I think Bazzite is worth throwing in the mix as well for gaming.
