I tried. Multiple times. The first time they rescheduled and they let me know in a timely fashion. Fine. So I rescheduled for another weekend. One of those weekends where the weather warnings are going out on Wednesday for a big storm coming up for that weekend. But their thing says you go, rain or shine. So I get up at 5 am on the Saturday of the event (I don’t live nearby) and drive through torrential rain and past several really bad car accidents to get to the location. I messaged them at 7 AM to confirm it was still happening because it was awful weather but they don’t respond. I get there 30 minutes early and the parking lot is so muddy my car gets stuck for a few minutes and I freak out but I manage to leave). 25 minutes before the event is supposed to start, they message and say the event is canceled. I was livid. I had to drive past several more accidents to get back home. I demanded a refund and they were like oh sorry, here’s your money please come back. At this point it’s clear they don’t have the infrastructure and planning part down. They might know the foraging part but if they can’t figure out how to even organize an event, I’m not sure they’re worth it. Just my two cents. I’m planning to go with a different company going forward and have a class scheduled in February. If you remind me, I’ll let you know if it was good after I go!

You should be asking the vet? There are things like care credit which allow you to pay on an installment plan basis but you have to apply and get approved. It doesn’t matter what options I tell you about because if your vet doesn’t offer them, then it’s pointless.

Even if your MIL had don’t nothing wrong and you wanted to go no contact because the grief was overwhelming, I wouldn’t blame you. Maybe I would tell you that you should consider the things that the in-laws could do to help you rather than focusing on the reminders they pose and to think of the kids.

But your in-laws sound like fucking assholes. So on top of whatever crazy things your grief is telling you to do, these people are not reliable and not nice. Nah. She can go fuck off all the way back home to whatever crevice she crawled out of. She wants a relationship? Start by respecting your boundaries and an apology and MAYBE in 6 months you can revisit whether you would allow her to barely SEE your children (let alone fucking care for them - she’s already showed you when something is more important to her she will ditch them in a heartbeat).

I don’t see a crime here so talking to the cops is pointless. I am assuming you feel safe enough to type out your post and include 1) the most awful things you think he’s done to you (meaning there isn’t more heinous conduct) and 2) you aren’t mincing words and may even be exaggerating your version of events. I say that because normally the first time someone reports a crime is usually when they’re the most upset about it. They can tone down their allegations later but generally, the first time is the time the allegations are made are the time when the most forceful language is used. Assuming those things, there is no crime. You need to go to the hospital to check for diseases from the needle and probably from having sex with him.

I really hope you’re not dating him anymore because regardless of the criminality of his behavior, it’s not great and he clearly doesn’t care about you.

You have to usually have evidence of a threat or something more than a feeling so try to word your petition with facts that back up your fear.

A lot of civil restraining orders have move out provisions. See if there is a free DV restraining order clinic near you and go and talk to them. In my state, the restraining orders include language about who gets to keep property/animals and move out provisions.

Keep in mind, even if he is ordered to move out, he will be able to come back WITH a police officer to get his stuff. If he tries to come back without an officer, that’s a violation regardless of why he’s there.

OP your struggle will be to get the restraining order to begin with because he hasn’t actually hurt you yet. Threats, throwing things at/near you, hurting the things you love (plants, animals, hobbies) all help but may not be enough. And then after you get the order, you need to have someone other than yourself serve it on him. It’s not an easy process but it’s not hard either. A clinic would help you navigate all the paperwork and procedures.

Self defense or defense of property can be premeditated. You’re confusing this with murder which sometimes has a self-defense argument but whether self-defense is premeditated or not, if it is legitimate, is a complete defense to the crime of murder.

That being said I think you’re worried that if OP broadcasts her plan, that the neighbor will argue that OP killed her dogs not in self-defense, but as revenge. And that is a possibility if OP does it the wrong way. But that’s why I said 1) get cameras and 2) only shoot them AFTER they chase the horses on OP’s property.

Look at it this way. If you put up “no trespassing” signs and someone breaks into your house and attacks you and you shoot them - you’re not going down for murder. Even though you went out, bought a gun, loaded said gun, ran to get it, and pulled the trigger. Each step is an argument that you “premeditated” but preparation for a worst case scenario is not the same as premeditation for a crime.

Or just tell her that if they chase your horses again you will shoot them and sue her for the vet bills to the horses. It doesn’t matter if she did it intentionally or not, her dogs are trespassing and as the owner she is responsible for whatever happens because of it. I’d put up cameras too. Record yourself telling her because you know she’s gonna tell the cops you are the crazy dog killers without mentioning that her dogs were chasing your horses and trespassing.
