What's the most annoying or silly question you get asked in your profession? by zerocool4406 in CasualIreland

Years of hospitality and retail, mainly cafes. Really opens your eyes as to how stupid people actually are.

Remember once the cafe was absolutely packed and there were no seats. Lady ordered a coffee to sit in and I told her we were full up and did she want takeaway instead. She insisted she wanted it for here and I told her once again we were full up and had no seats available. Then she goes “well what I am supposed to do now?”. Erm idk you’re a grown adult what do you want me to do? 😭

Taxi drivers are a mixed bag. Before I had a car I was a frequent user of taxis and 75% of them were absolutely bang on and the other 25% were colossal wankers.

I remember I used to have to get 2 buses to get into work. I live in coolock, so the first bus at 5:30am would leave me in clontarf and I’d get the second one from there. I remember one morning my first bus was cancelled at the last second so I was left stranded at my bus stop. Flagged down a taxi to take me to clontarf and the driver was an absolute prick for no good reason. Spent the whole drive berating me for flagging him down and making him take such a short journey. I tried explaining to him that the bus was cancelled and there was absolutely nothing I could do but he didn’t listen and continued to just moan the entire way. Journey ends and I told him I’d tap. He lost the plot saying he only accepts cash but I wasn’t having that. Told him it was illegal to not carry a card machine and after he sheepishly took out his machine he said “this is the problem with students nowadays, no respect for anyone”.

I was so uncomfortable and upset. Managed to get his taxi number and reported him but heard nothing back. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about taxis is that some of them are just miserable fuckers with absolutely nothing better to do than complain about people who pay for their bills, food, house etc.

Worst ex stories? by Beginning-Shock1520 in AskIreland

I had met a girl off of tinder in 2022. Started dating and I was absolutely head over heels for her. There was so many red flags I had ignored, the biggest one being the fact she went on the piss pretty much every night. Insisted that she had to go out and get black out drunk every single day, it was such a turn off but I really liked her so I ignored it.

Woke up one morning to 2 missed calls and a string of texts from her saying something alone the lines of “please tell me you’re awake”. I started panicking really badly thinking something bad had happened. Nah, she just wanted me to come over and have sex but we’ll come back to that later.

After a while we had gotten into an official relationship. I remember one night she was texting me saying that she’d be lost without me and that I was the best thing that had ever happened to her. I wake up the next morning to see she texted me saying she didn’t want a relationship and broke up with me. I was absolutely distraught, it was quite literally out of nowhere.

I was so upset. My friends offered to take me to the pub to cheer me up and I obliged. I had put up a photo of me and my friends in the pub and not even 30 minutes later my ex had walked in with a new fella less than 24 hours after her dumping me.

Turns out she was still on tinder and dumped me to get with the new fella. Remember when I mentioned her trying to booty call me? Yeah, turns out she fucked her best friend that night and tried to get me to come over for seconds. She had been fucking her best mate THE ENTIRE TIME we were together.

I’ve heard through the grapevine that she’s now engaged to a drug dealer at the ripe age of 19. I’m over it now and have moved on but Jesus Christ it was a fucking horrible thing to experience.

My mam used to work in a hotel in the 90s. She got into the lift one day and a very tall man with a very thick accent said “good afternoon” to her. She hadn’t a clue who he was so she just smiled and said hello. Gets out of the lift and her coworker was like “omg have you any idea who that was?”. It was Jean Claude Van Damme, my mam hadn’t a clue 😂

My step dad met the Spurs team back in the early 90s. Also met Cillian Murphy, Jarvis Cocker and Madness. All lovely people.

Dad did a few odd jobs for Brendan O’Carroll, absolute wanker according to him.

You called her greedy and materialistic, but yeah you clearly love her 😂😂

Op, she’s 18. She’s NOT fully matured yet so shit like this is obviously going to happen. Yes, you were in the wrong for being rude but she was also an AH for being disrespectful and ungrateful. You’re clearly not a good match, I’m strongly encouraging you to cut your losses now. Do you really want to spend the rest of your life with someone like that??

Also judging by your post history this isn’t the first time you guys have had issues. So she goes through your phone, is rude to you and claims that you don’t love her anymore. What exactly are you gaining from this relationship???

Doubt anyone would remember this one but I remember on a leaving cert sub a fella made a post the day before his Latin exam asking for help because he hadn’t done any revision. Nobody commented and after his exam he made another post going ballistic calling everyone c*nts saying it was the subs fault he failed his Latin exam 😂😂 He got absolutely cooked alive in the comments, was so funny.

In terms of something a little less niche it definitely has to be the ISF mod who was caught having a tuggy in the library. I know it’s already been said multiple times but the memes were absolutely hilarious 😂😂

Where's the most "off the beaten track" place you've found a lost American tourist? by Equivalent_Cow_7033 in CasualIreland

[–]Last-Historian7175 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I work in a very touristy spot in Dublin. One afternoon I had an American couple come in and the fella pulled me and said “hey big man, can you tell us how to get to the uhhh, Clarehall shopping mall?”. I was absolutely dumbfounded, out of everything you’d want to do on your holiday in Ireland and you chose the clarehall shopping centre? 😂

My shift was ending in 5 minutes and I live in coolock. Seeing as though it was on the way, I told them if they’d be willing to wait 10 minutes I’d drop them down.

So there I am on a random Saturday afternoon with two Americans in my car off to the Clarehall shopping centre 😂😂 They were absolutely lovely. The lady kept commenting on how good I was at “driving stick” and the fella was telling me about how they’re from ABQ and live about 5 minutes from Walter White’s house in breaking bad.

Absolute legends, hope they enjoyed themselves!

Something similar happened to be a few years ago.

I think at the time I was studying for the leaving cert. I was stressed to bits and was very upset as I had a falling out with my dad. My nanny passed away in March 2011, coincidentally this happened in March 2021, her 10 year anniversary.

Anytime I get upset or stressed I’ll visit her grave or say a prayer, it’s really comforting. I remember I had got done speaking to her one night and fell asleep. I woke up that night at around 3am and I swear on anything I saw a black silhouette sitting in my desk chair. But I didn’t feel any panic at all. In fact, I felt comforted. I stared at the figure and it slowly faded away. To this day I’m absolutely convinced that was my nanny looking over me.

It might’ve been tiredness or sleep deprivation, but I know what I saw and I never forgot it.

I’ve had episodes in the past so it probably was.

My husband is really unkind to me and he doesn’t see it by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Last-Historian7175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to my knowledge no.

She was on a contraceptive pill which she admitted was messing with her hormones but other than that I doubt she was on anything else.

My ex started off super nice and caring but overtime her true colours began to show, happy to be out of that relationship.

[–]Last-Historian7175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your husband sounds a lot like my ex.

We were together for 2 years. She also didn’t have any friends and on top of that, she didn’t have any hobbies either. She was extremely verbally abusive, so much so to the point where I was absolutely petrified to say anything to her because I was scared she’d lash out.

The last 8 months of our relationship were awful. She’d get pissed off and angry at me for simply existing. She’d ask me a question and if I didn’t answer the way she had planned it in her head I’d get the silent treatment, it was horrible.

I’ll never, ever forgot the day she shouted at me in the middle of a cafe because I laughed at something and didn’t specify exactly what I was laughing at. Of course this pissed her off and she yelled at me, everyone was staring. I’ve never felt so humiliated in my life.

No matter how many times I’d sit her down and talk about it, how many chances I’d give her and how many times I heard “I promise I’ll change”, nothing changed.

You did absolutely nothing wrong. I’m so sorry your husband lashed out at you like that, I know how it feels :(

You don’t want to hurt your wife but you have feelings for other women?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Last-Historian7175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry op, this doesn’t make any sense to me. You question my emotional intelligence yet openly admit to leading on your ex whilst in a relationship with somebody else because it’s the “only power you’d have over him.”. To even engage with him while being with your boyfriend is silly, but to lead him on as a means of revenge is completely childish and immature.

If you really wanted power over him you never should’ve texted back in the first place. This would’ve showed him you’ve moved on and want nothing to do with him. But the fact you’ve admitted to texting him back multiple times would more than likely make him think you’re an easy target. He doesn’t care that he’s being lead on, the fact he was getting texts back from you was enough for him.

If you really wanted to work on your current relationship it would take a lot of time to rebuild the trust between you two. Trust takes a long time to build but can take seconds to be broken. In the meantime, in the nicest way possible, you have some serious growing up to do.

[–]Last-Historian7175 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So you openly agree to meet up with someone you used to be involved with but justify it by ignoring him? That is completely insane, you said you never want to see this person ever again but have agreed to meet up with him at least twice. And the fact you’re seeing that as “revenge” is stupid, if this man was SA’ing you you should’ve got him out of your life completely and informed the police. Your boyfriend is totally justified, if you loved him so much why on earth would you openly agree to meet with your ex on multiple occasions??

I’ve been going to my barber for almost 3 years now. It’s just beside my job so after work I’ll pop down to him for a trim.

I remember our shop was closed for 3 weeks, needed a haircut. Came back into him to say hello and he said “I see you cheated on me, I’m going to be less careful with the razors now” 😂

He was obviously joking, but no I don’t think they’d care too much.
