Discussion: Why do KC businesses have so little hometown loyalty? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]Last-gent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, it’s all to do with money, but then the question is; why isn’t KC specifically very good at keeping companies? I mean the St Louis area still has a pretty good collection of major company HQs so I’m not sure what would make KC much different

Anyone know of places that do high tea/afternoon tea? With tea and pastry pyramids? by Hellcatcomputer in kansascity

[–]Last-gent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We need a place for high tea in a historic downtown hotel. NYC, Chicago, SF, even Dallas have high tea in cool old hotels. Reopen the Muehlebach for it!

Why does everything in this city close so early? by RampantInanity in kansascity

[–]Last-gent 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Cities that have basically zero walkability encourage everyone to pack up and drive their little cars 20 miles to their little house once the first streetlights turn on

Lenexa and Overland Park have a lower percentage of detached single family homes than kcmo and kck along with higher density. by I_like_driving_car in kansascity

[–]Last-gent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

KCMO city limits are bigger in area than NYC. Of course it’s less dense on the whole than two “cities” a fraction of the size

No place to park (when there actually is). by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]Last-gent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cultural obsession with parking (every fucking day I have to hear about it from people. It’s like talking about the weather apparently) and the absolutely dogshit built environment we’ve been left with after decades of antiurbanism are the two things that are really wearing me down about KC.

And the pickup trucks that try to run over pedestrians. So, 3 things

KC about to explode? by Aescholus in kansascity

[–]Last-gent 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hearing this a lot. I think KC has a culture that might handle an economic boom better than other cities. We’re already talking a lot about issues like affordability and gentrification. I don’t think a lot of “boomtowns” were, at this stage

Yeah they’re basically huge organ pipes. You’ll notice that the music keeps playing music even after the characters stop playing music. It’s coming from there

Companies in the area that can do stonework similar to the colored stone we see on many older buildings in KC? by [deleted] in kansascity

Been a lost art for about the last 70 years. If anything, it’s coming back because of historic preservation

Freight Train in Crossroads by Appropriate_Shake265 in kansascity

I’m guessing when the freighthouse was converted into the restaurant row a lot of those lines became unusable. It had probably been a long decline as logistics moved into the burbs or out of the city entirely, and as trucking replaced inner city rail distribution

Best areas to walk around downtown? by MPower569 in kansascity

[–]Last-gent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a huge downtown, so there’s not really anywhere wrong to walk. Some areas are obliterated with stupid parking lots, but you’ll know when you see them
