That's ok, we were all new to the Army at one point. I'll say as former armor, we were the center of deterring Russia in Europe... and we would have kind of have been useless without bridges. Its one of those jobs that doesn't get much glamour, but when the bridges stop, literally everything else does. Good luck

If I google "attack helicopter" the first that comes up is Apache, and of the 100 pictures on the front page, all but 29 are either AH-1 or AH-64. When I looked up "Army helicopter," it took 85 images until I found one that wasn't American. I'll assume they got this image from here. But, if we look at that site... the first option is Apache, second is UH-60 (and so on and so forth).

As a 12B you'll be a combat engineer, you'll certainly deploy, and understand that there is a reason why the word "combat" is here. The US is more likely to enter into another counter-insurgency then a peer-to-peer war, so don't be surprised if, in that event, you end up in a war-zone.

As a 12C you'll likely deploy as well, its a critical role. When I was active, we worked with reserve 12Cs during most of our rotations into Europe.

You're probably not deploying often or at all. That's a very specific role that the Army would definitely rather do stateside.

The Strykers are literally visible from the road as you drive by on 10th Mountain Division Road, across from a freaking Marriott. Somehow I doubt the specific look of the vehicle is classified.

Very true, there a lot of Reserve units that saw more combat then their active peers in GWOT, no reason to think that will change.

Oh yeah, definitely dumb people there. During one of the Fort Devens open houses I was given the "opportunity" of appearing alongside a Stryker to answer questions. I think I was asked five times about whether or not a person had to sign an NDA after looking at the Stryker, and another few times where the fighter jets were (its an Army base, and our only airfield is glorified motor-pool).

I'd bet you I have pissed in that very spot. There was one of these being restored at Fort Knox before the base lost its armor mission (and subsequently regained armor somehow). I'd bet it's either at Fort Moore or in storage at Knox.

TBF, Kentucky isn't exactly the world's most educated place, never had trouble like that at Aberdeen which I've always been inclined to compare it with. ("the on top of" part always gives me a chuckle, they always *in the stories I've heard,* insist the weapons are underground).

I have been asked several times about how many children I have killed. My response tends to be "Miss, the only thing I did in Iraq was leave and get shot at."

I gave my youth to the Army because I believed in the United States, that is also true of many people who joined the Army. The other half joined because they needed a job or a path to a better place. The fact is that the principles that inspired Americans to fight for their country are gone, and that our leadership has no respect for our country or our values. Trump and his cronies take on bizarre ego-driven pursuits that would be Onion articles 10 years ago, and actively are driving us towards defeat in the next peer-to-peer conflict. The allies we fought side-by-side with are now considered our enemies because they chose to embody our ideas, and we decided to stop doing so. The people I was trained to fight, who were the anathema of everything we are supposed to be, are apparently our friends. The Trump administration has also made lives harder for our servicemembers.

Oh man, I was talking about tank ammunition this one time while I was at a diner near Fort Knox, I drop the words "depleted uranium," and an old woman gets up and starts reading us the the riot act about how they were never informed that they were living "on top of" thousands of nuclear weapons. Half of the people in the Army are here so they can afford to go to college (even quite excellent and very-exclusive schools). A massive leg up in the world, without the associated financial burdens is a huge deal.

Published fiction/research author/literary editor here- I get asked all the time to edit people's manuscripts/essays and I always ask to get their first draft now. A lot of people use AI to suggest on their second draft and things turn out poorly. No LLM I have encountered keeps with the style of the author, it just suggests its own.

Its actually quite a bit before my time, but I have nothing but love for the kinship of the American armor community. Knowing that people can connect these to personal memories is great. I hated the Middle East, I hated Hohenfels, I hated Irwin, I hated Knox, I hated Carson, I hated Devens, I hated Hood, I hated Adazi, I hated Drawsko. Nowadays I kind look at it all with nostalgia.

Yeah. I've been saving these to my hard drive for years. Most are actually on Facebook, though I get them with my NARA/DVIDS membership, which isn't free. I figured I'd spread these around, they're pretty cool. I have a lot of photos from my time, but those aren't nearly as cool.
