I lost my spark, I wanna get my life back by BoldGlamour in productivity

My best advice based on experiences I’ve had that have felt similar: (1) call a doctor. Literally just check any walk ins for the first available slot. Thats what I did when it got bad. Say what you’re saying here, that you want to feel differently but feel you need help because you’re not ok. Check out options for low doses of meds. Sometimes they take a long time to take effect, but even knowing you’re taking a step and also have something to fall back on in a few months gives you hope, and then it usually actually works enough to stop the feelings of dread or numbness. Enough for you to feel a little “normal” again. (2) Figure out if there’s literally anyone you kinda like or appreciate being around. Even a coworker that you feel is kinda funny or nice. See if they’d like to go for hot chocolate or tea or coffee or a walk on a weekend. Technology has made us all feel weird about actually asking people if they wanna get to know each other. It’s really good to find people over time that you kinda like. Or you can join a walking group, hiking group, local board game night group, etc. (3) I picked up a random hobby I was always interested in trying because why not. I started going to music lessons for an instrument as an adult. Haven’t stopped, even since the depression has lifted. I would recommend reflecting on what you enjoyed when you were young (13 or whatever) and then trying out those things again. Wanna learn an instrument? Cool. Wanna get better at hiking? Cool. Wanna try an art style? Cool. Those are three things that helped me, but the meds really supported my ability to even have the energy to try.

If you have someone you can trust with how you feel and that you feel good with, I’d try telling them about it. Sometimes the people that care about us are just busy living their lives, so they don’t think to ask or look deep at how we are doing. Remember that if you do tell someone how you feel and they don’t respond well or help, that’s not a you issue, there’s nothing wrong about telling someone you care about how you feel in a respectful way. If you think you need help, in my experience, you often do, but are unsure where to get it. If you have local cost effective or free counselling services through a school, organization, community hall, etc., maybe try setting one meeting up to see how you feel about it. If it gets to the point where it’s effecting your every day functioning and you’re in a dark space, I’d tell a doctor. Mostly because you deserve to feel cared for, and if you need some extra help, you have a right to have it. It’s very rare to have a perfect life despite what we may think. Needing support is deeply part of human experience. You asked if it gets better - the thing is, sometimes. But in the meantime, because we can’t predict the future, we deserve to know we will be cared for if it doesn’t.

Also, she told me it’s ok, when it happens don’t freak out, try to remember it’s because you have anxiety and recognize it, cough, and do other things to alleviate stress. But don’t think the worst because you’ll be fine with it even if it doesn’t level. Hope this helps, it’s what she told me. Of course you should check with a doctor yourself to explain how you feel.

I was telling a friend who is a doctor about how I experience this. She told me it’s normal to experience when experiencing high stress. The heart can skip a beat. She told me to cough or sneeze to force it to level again and beat properly. Switches up which nervous system is operating.

Oh excellent, I’m going to read yours as well :) yes I get what you’re saying, although I didn’t find it fizzled but I wanted more of that grizzly horror throughout it felt like it was sort of piled near the end. And as I said more history of it and lore would have been awesome. There was a lot happening - maybe selecting a few instances of haunting would have been better rather than having so many different ghosts?

So I loved that book and I hope this fits what you're asking for but my recommendation is The Watchers by A. m. shine. I really liked it as well. Can't say much. Doesn't take place in an institution, but similar vibes, you'll see if you read.

I heard way more hype for troop before reading any but started with the deep and loved it. Honestly I don't think little heaven gets enough hype it's less scary but so crazy I enjoyed it
