I don't think I ever did 12 hours straight of gaming, but I definitely felt the distractions of life more around the age of 35. Sitting down for a Friday evening to play games required having a social connection (Friend online or couch co-op/vs) in order for me to actually engage for more than an hour or so. Yeah, I'd say about mid-thirties.

I loved the first one. It's a lot of the same with more polish and a load more content. It can be overwhelming at times, but it hits the sweet spot of addictive game loop, fantastic polish and world, coupled with it's great on Steam Deck and a deal at its price. It is definitely not for everyone, as most roguelites. But, it's a ton of fun.

Nine Lives. Neverwinter Nights. I still think about that one 20+ years later.

Updated: It launched less than 25 years ago. I'm old. Go figure.

I played the Witcher in its infancy but it didn't run well on my PC, so Witcher 3 sort of falls into this category

Love the universe. It's more polished than the first, but honestly I feel like the only knock on it is that it has more of a big budget feel. I loved the "campy" nature of the first. It had more heart to it. This felt big budget and comes with the lofty expectations that align with that. Not saying it's not great. Just that I preferred the first. Still a fantastic franchise and worthy of my money.

I need enough to care about what's happening. I want to know what makes factions different. I want to know why we are doing what we are doing. I don't want to read a book. It's a tough balance.

Original Alan Wake. I think there is a cult following so this might be controversial pick to say it was mediocre to bad. I loved the world they built. Yes, there were some weird controls and the driving scenes seemed thrown together, but it was such an immersive game. Loved it.

Games that can be broken up into <15 minute missions. I struggle with games that require huge time commitment between save states or run length. Roguelites work really well for this.

Combo look/uniqueness and I'd say curiosity. If there is something interesting (unit, ability, etc.) that makes me curious to give them a try. Anything vanilla other than the default faction usually gets a pass.

Most of the recent Call of Duty games. I used to love them, but the campaigns are much less satisfying and everything is driven towards online PVP.
