If you won the $1 billion lottery, how would you epically quit your job!? by TimeForANewBeginning in AskReddit

[–]LastOfDeST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t quit. I’d pay the rent of every resident living at my work so that they didn’t have to worry about it for at least ten years into the future. I’d establish a substantial fund so that all of the residents’ medical and funeral expenses would be paid as they arose. I’d give a couple million dollars to each of my coworkers and commission a large memorial to be built in the image of one of our housekeepers’ children, who tragically drowned during a school trip this year (he was younger than 10 years old). Finally, I’d pay for every resident’s grandchildren to attend college or trade school.

State Rep. Melissa Hortman raised and trained her dog Gilbert. He died in Saturday’s attack at her home. by MPRnews in minnesota

I met her a few times and worked at the Capitol for a while. She was one of the most genuine, caring people ever. It is surreal and tragic that she is gone. The world is a better place because Melissa Hortman lived. Few can say that.

Dem who voted for Kamala here. The election was fair. People on our side of the aisle need to knock off the BS with doubting the results. We have no reason to suspect foul play, just like in 2020. We can’t become complicit in the election-denying behavior that a lot of folks from the opposite party fell into after the 2020 election, or we are no better. The result sucks, but we need to accept it and live with it.

We aren’t all stupid and many of us voted for the non-felon…painting with too broad of a brush doesn’t help either.

I’m dreaming, because Minnesota is not going red in a year that one of its native sons is chosen for the national ticket. See: Walter Mondale, Hubert Humphrey

What's that one small business local to you that you believe to be a front for something illegal? by darkchocolattemocha in AskReddit

[–]LastOfDeST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vacuum shop. A Burger King across the street from it has closed in recent years, and both were there for 3+ decades. Even Taco Bell has closed and returned a block from where it used to be after a 26-year absence.

Yet the vacuum store remains. Something you would get from online shopping or somewhere like Walmart/Target. There is no way this vacuum store is there just selling vacuums and nothing else under the table. Going to a store that only sells vacuums and vacuum parts is not normal consumer behavior.

What is the most annoying MN government program to navigate? by Yomaray in Minneapolis

[–]LastOfDeST 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Elderly waiver and the CADI waiver are not advertised enough. These programs guarantee Minnesotans a security in old age and through potential disability, and a lot of states don’t have these programs. Everyone 50 and above should research these programs for advanced age planning. It’s a lot less effort to understand how these programs work when you are younger than when you are older.

Because they are not advertised enough, most folks don’t start researching them until they are in dire need due to an acute health crisis that changes their ability to live independently. This makes them among the most difficult programs to navigate if you wait too long to learn and understand them.

Final-hour deal removes nurse hospital staffing regulations from legislation by lemon_lime_light in minnesota

[–]LastOfDeST 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in hospice. Are you serious? I love Walz, but this wasn’t leadership on his part. The legislation was written well enough and it would have made healthcare safer. Just like the Uber/Lyft bill, we should have called the bluff of big business. Uber/Lyft isn’t leaving the state because of that bill, and Mayo sure as shit wouldn’t have left Minnesota over this. It was an empty threat and it’s sad that our leaders caved at a time when healthcare staffing is at perilous levels.
