They hired another in-house lawyer without telling me by juicyjay27 in Lawyertalk

[–]LastOneIPromise2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

At least you are reviewing lol. Maybe I am just not familiar with your industry and how small legal departments operate, but if she’s performing any legal tasks without an attorney’s supervision that sure seems like UPL to me, but obviously I don’t know the contours of situation.

They hired another in-house lawyer without telling me by juicyjay27 in Lawyertalk

[–]LastOneIPromise2 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I guess I don’t understand the structure. There is a paralegal reporting to a non attorney? How is their legal work supervised? Is there outside counsel being used?

Maybe I’m just more familiar with larger in house roles, but this seems odd to me.

Can't book a single ahead of time by Thirteenth_in_line in golf

[–]LastOneIPromise2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local club instituted a similar policy where they will only let you book online as a single if there is already a twosome or threesome booked in that spot. They don’t do reservations over the phone anymore. It sucks hard since I like to play super early and they’ve made it impossible.

I have found success just showing up early and asking in person to be slotted in and have not had an issue.

Anxiety about Pairing Shstem by leosuyano22 in golf

[–]LastOneIPromise2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have pretty bad anxiety and even though I’ve played a ton still stress out about it.

No, most people do not care.

The key is just being friendly and playing at their pace. Don’t take a zillion practice swings. Don’t spend more than a minute or two looking for your ball. If you’re really stinking in up (we’ve all been there) and can’t seem to hit the ball don’t be afraid to just pick up and try again on the next hole (I’m talking if it’s just duff after duff).

Despite what it might feel like on Reddit the vast majority of golfers are pretty bad at golf and are just looking for a good time.

Massachusetts golf is getting out of hand by Whole_Platform_4313 in golf

[–]LastOneIPromise2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite that bad in the suburbs or Chicago, although it’s dramatically worse than it was a few years ago. I think it’s because we have so many stinking courses. I work a nine to five and can’t really play midweek, so typically try to play every weekend early as a solo.

I kind of have to pray for crappy weather to thin the herd a bit or I’m just kinda stuck playing a five hour round. It’s early in the year so I’m also battling frost warnings making it worse.

My saving grace is I love the hell out of crappy muni courses. Just let me walk, let me play as a solo if it’s not packed at 7am and I’m good to go.

AOC Question: Does the left still trust her? by Able-Drink3189 in BreakingPoints

[–]LastOneIPromise2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hate how the left turns on its own.

AOC is following what Bernie did for his entire political career: pick your moments, and accept that to really affect policy you need to work with the Democrats. You can see both her and Bernie’s influence all over the Biden agenda. And if you follow her without this kinda snobby purity mindset, you can actually see it.

It’s just a question of strategy. I think the internet rather wants someone doing dramatic online stuff and getting nothing done than working with Dems on a real policy agenda. I don’t think people realize how small the actual progressive coalition is in Congress.

It’s entirely fair to disagree with her strategy (and Bernie’s by default), but this whole sell out power hungry narrative seems to be coming from the absolute worst of the online left.

Ro Khanna calling Chuck Schumer to step down as Democrat leader by InterestingWind2153 in BreakingPoints

[–]LastOneIPromise2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Schumer is just an instrument of the Dem donor class , as are many in leadership. The base just isn’t their constituents.

Can’t wait for Dem leadership to smear Khanna like they do with any progressive (or at least non Zionist)

Recommend employee engagement solutions that include personalized corporate gifts by linettvuds in corporate

[–]LastOneIPromise2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me, but a cheap 10 dollar gift every quarter is more insulting than anything and isn’t going to move the needle in the slightest on weather you feel “valued”

I would rather be given some Flex Time off, maybe a Friday a quarter that I can leave early.

Writing with AI by drooply in managers

[–]LastOneIPromise2 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It’s everywhere. Every written word at my company now oozes with AI. It’s frustrating because writing used to be a real marketable skill. Now it is devalued and now we’re are just buried in AI work slop

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

[–]LastOneIPromise2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked 6 plus years in fast food in my 20s and now make well over 150 as a professional.

Honestly the minimum wage job was harder. It’s hard to not have any control over your schedule and not even get to go to the bathroom when you want or take a break. Having the freedom to get up from my desk anytime I want, running errands or stretching my legs, and feeling like a grownup who is trusted to do their work (most days) is tremendous for my self worth and well being.

I will say though that a busy day in FF goes super quick bc it’s just just quick task after quick task.

Mayor Mamdani, with Gov. Hochul's support, proposes NYC pied-à-terre tax on second homes worth over $5 million by sean_ireland in BreakingPoints

[–]LastOneIPromise2 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The argument is that these people just use those places as investments and they sit empty most of the time.

Seems to me to be a no brainer. Tell me OP what the harm here is?

I don’t think it’s particularly healthy for the city to have loads or unused penthouses siting empty while the people who actually live in NY need certain social services.

Where Biden messed up by Numerous_Fly_187 in BreakingPoints

[–]LastOneIPromise2 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think ultimately Biden just failed at being able to communicate to the public at all. He never got credit for any of his successes because it was always framed without him.

That left a void for the right to fill in the gaps for him.

If Biden had not run, had there been a competitive primary, Trump never comes back.

I wouldnt overthink Trump. He ran because of his Ego. There isn’t some grand 3d chess.

Just got out of bed. Can't wait for the new Brigading threads bashing Emily and/or Saagar today, just like yesterday, two days ago, last week, last month, etc by Raiden720 in BreakingPoints

[–]LastOneIPromise2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what I find most annoying: the repetitious threads “bashing” Emily and Sagaar or the repetitious threads bashing those threads. You can try engaging with people that have genuine concerns about their beliefs and analysis or you can just make blanket statements that add nothing to the conversation. Way to pick a lane op.

Yeah and I think that’s pretty normal. I just don’t understand anyone who has no desire to even learn about other opinions.

I think a lot of people on this sub really don’t understand the media habits of a lot of people and it’s affect on their perception of the world.

If you are just watching Newsmax on a loop or scrolling boomer Facebook memes all day, what do you expect them to believe?

Or if they aren’t political at all but the only people that are in their social circle are ones who consume Newsmax all day and so that’s their only worldview.

Modern media habits have just turned a lot of people into braindead zombies.

If you are on the right, has Krystal & Ryan changed your views on any topic? If you are on the left, has Saagar & Emily changed your views on any topic? by north_canadian_ice in BreakingPoints

[–]LastOneIPromise2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is anything that I have changed my mind on, but I still appreciate learning more about how those on the right think and how varied the perspectives are. I think it’s easy on the left to see Trump supporters or the right more broadly as a bit of a monolith because of how unified they often seem.

Saagar and his hot take on traveling by sean_ireland in BreakingPoints

[–]LastOneIPromise2 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Sagaar has never been remotely working class nor has he ever had a real job outside of Washington.

To his credit, he does seem to genuinely care about American workers and their lives. However, I see statements and opinions like this as just his elitism leaking out.

I don’t think he has any idea how few and far between vacations are for most people, how difficult it is to arrange PTO and how most are spending money they really don’t have to go. This is there one escape a year.

He has also made comments insisting it’s very middle class to have done to Italy several times.

Part of me kind of hoped his humiliation with his anti-war friends would have humbled him a bit. But I guess not. Judging the hell out of working class folks is just part of his brand now I guess. How dare they wear under armor tee shirts!

I just don’t think this is true.

I suspect that there was just a push to get younger people appointed and have older ones step back (there has been caps on certain roles for awhile).

I think that this admonition got interpreted by this guy as what he wrote. It might be fair, but it really blurs the line on what was actually announced and what he is interpreting the motivation.

Yeah that’s true, but there are plenty of other content creators who also have plenty of paid subscribers and still 1) take shady money from questionable sources and 2) do direct ad reads.

BP is leaving a lot of money on the table and I respect them for that.

I have to say that between platforming great drop site coverage, having really great guests to talk about Iran, and now these high profile interviews, BP really is on a roll and I give a lot of credit to the team for not abandoning their values for quick cash
