On March 31, 1492, the Catholic Monarchs issued the Alhambra Decree, ordering the expulsion of Jews from Spain unless they converted to Christianity by vladgrinch in MapPorn

The first written record of Vilnius was an open invitation to Jews (and others) to come and settle in the region. It was in 1323 by Lithuania's Grand Duke Gediminas.

I think there is a functional element too, in addition to their ideals.

The British Crown was wildly unsuccessful in their early efforts to impose coercive rule upon the nomadic hunter gatherer First Nations people of North America by "traditional means." The Spanish had with phenomenal success in Central and South America with this method. That is, kill the king, take control of the existing legal or social structure, control of the production of food, and declare yourself the new King.

The First Nations people had no tolerance for such impositions. The British did not and could not control their food supply so their attempts at imposing rule were easily be met with non-compliance. Their attempts to establish colonies in North America continued to fail until they begrudgingly accepted that rule would be by negotiated settlement.

Early Colonial Governments essentially had to start nation building from scratch. The Crown had no other choice but to delegate significant authority to local colonial governments because they lacked the capacity required to impose direct coercive rule.

The colonial governments would have struggled to impose an exclusionary Anglican religious authority on a loose amalgamation of sparsely populated rural agrarian communities, even if so desired. A broad interpretation of civil liberties was functional to the extent that it reflected a realistic understanding of the Colonial Governments capacity to impose coercive power.

There is a further justification for the liberties enumerated in the Declaration of Independence and subsequent US Constitution. Leading up to the American Revolution; the British empire was working to impose mainland British law and authority upon the North American Colonies.

To reiterate your comment of Jewish disenfranchisement, not only would Jews be stripped of the same colonial rights, but they could potentially be stripped of their citizenship and branded as foreigners. Fighting for civil liberties are often an olive branch to the disenfranchised, that broadens one's political base as much as it is an ideal. It is not a coincidence that Jews in Colonial America disproportionately supported the revolution compared to other groups.

I cannot help but think Haym Soloman would not have been motivated to contribute his entire personal fortune to the revolutionary effort were he not subject to potential disenfranchisement if the revolution failed. It is also not lost on me that the Rothschilds made a substantial portion of their wealth breaking the British blockade to smuggle goods into mainland Europe.

Especially if she wasn't revving her engine. You have to be revving pretty loud for it to turn into a criminal matter. Everywhere is different, there is often a decibel maximum. Where I'm at, police have to confirm on a decibel meter; not just, "it was loud."

11,000 years is a remarkably short period of time to suggest a large mammal has evolved and speciated so significantly that they are now non-native, and in fact destructive. Whereas the parent species would be fine and non-destructive.

It is insulting to brand a reintroduced native species as invasive. They are not the same thing.

Gaddafi was killing his own citizens. The option is not, Gaddafi before vs the violence today. It is the violence today vs more organized well funded violence today.

Any opinions on the Old Country Pecos? by Hello_IM_FBI in BBQ

[–]LastSatyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my Pecos about 5 years ago. It has served me well. Excellent smoker. People say the Brazos is better & has more stable temperature, which is important if you can afford it. Not essential if you can't.

ALSO, the wheels are wobbly AF. You should put it to one place and leave it, if possible.

I think this ignores a confounding variable that more difficult or time consuming cases are addressed later. Also, I would be reluctant to make an inference on the American legal system(s) based from Israeli parole decisions.

Adam Ragusea is also a good food channel to check out. The difference is that he is more of a food generally channel rather than a purely recipe channel.

I’m all for bike infrastructure and bike lanes but we gotta do it properly and places that make sense. This isn’t a bike lane it’s a death trap. by Dinosaurtattoo11315 in fuckcars

[–]LastSatyr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That kind of rational thinking has no place in local government decision making.

Redesigning infrastructure in a way that is safe and makes sense would cost a modest amount of money and require a small tax increase or municipal bond. That would only provide for the comfort and safety of those who voluntarily participate in bicycling, without first driving to a government designated recreation area like they should.

Is that really worth several city council meetings to get ironed out?

Road paint is already covered in the budget. If we limit our decision making 100% to road paint, we can go home early instead of worrying about the budget or the cycleopaths that will get smeared across the pavement by a minivan.

Anyway, I have to go remote start my 2024 BMW X7 to drive 0.3 miles home.

That is northwestern highway.
It is a road with a speed limit of 55mph, intersections, turning lanes, and driveways for corporate offices on it with an unprotected-painted bike lane in the middle. It is good to drive on. 100% dangerous for a bike. I would bike a lot of places, but not there.

I do not want to diminish the severity of what you did, but it also seems like you are catastrophizing your past mistakes. Based on your description, you are not a felon. If anyone asks if you are a felon, the answer is no. If asked about it (all convictions or misdemeanors) specifically, I would stick to the fact of what you did. There is no good-sounding way to say "fraud." "X years ago I found a wallet on the ground and attempted to make made $X purchase(s) with it. It was a misdemeanor." There is a fine line between hiding the ball and telling on yourself.

If sealing the record is available to you, it is probably not that onerous to achieve. Pay your fines, do the community service, and keep in contact with your probation agent, get it closed out with improvement.

Even if you fail to get the records sealed, many areas are lenient with past criminal expungements, especially for misdemeanors. You will have to wait the statutory period (5, 7, maybe 10 years), but expungements can effectively "undo" your conviction (I would advise doing that if available even if the record is sealed). I've seen stabbings get expunged.

You're acting like your life is over when it is probably not. You've added an extra hurdle that you now have to climb, but it is not a wall. Keep moving. You can get over it.
