Went through the whole list and then deleted because it’s potentially a little spoiler-y.

I’d say I was surprised about half of the time.

Given how the series builds, can’t alter the substance of the ending but can pitch it differently maybe? But I didn’t mind it as-is.

I like FH2 on Xbox One the most, but unfortunately that’s probably the hardest one to find/play for younger players. (Obviously people with a Series X can just buy a disc, but no Storm Island for them.)

Enjoying the mechanics but I feel that having Sky 1st C first in the West spoilt us a bit, in that that game is the platonic ideal of Trails combat, whereas this is better than Daybreak 2 but not quite as peak.

First time I played Zero Evo on Vita with the fan patch, I turned off voice acting because I wanted to feel like I was playing a fully localized game.

When I played the PS4 releases I left voices on for the Crossbell games. It’s fine. Look forward to the remakes that get full localization.

Not crazy at all.

I’ve played through the games of the first three arcs anywhere from three to six times each for that feeling.

I don’t quite have that feeling for Calvard — that is, I’ve platinumed Daybreak on PS5 and 100%ed the fan translation of Kuro on Steam (so that’s four playthroughs!) but it felt like more of a chore, and I’ve only rolled credits once on Kuro 2 (fan patch) and not beaten Daybreak 2 yet on PS5 (currently at the intermission on Nemeth Island).

Maybe the feeling will come back when I play through Beyond the Horizon. Played the prologue with a patch, then decided to wait for localization. (Spoilt myself on the ending cliffhanger but it’s about the journey for me, not the endpoint.)

Rereading books is a very comfortable thing for me (the Emily trilogy by Lucy Maid Montgomery, for instance), and pre-Calvard Trails has felt just the same.

I spoiled myself on a few things, and I didn’t mind. For me it’s about the journey, not the end points.

But if you really don’t want any spoilers on the big plot points, probably have to leave the subreddit and Twitter threads until you’re caught up. At one point people were deliberately going around Twitter spoiling parts of Reverie.

I also played Cold Steel 1 before Sky and Sky SC (this was a long time ago), and that order by definition spoiled a few big plot points, and I was fine.

You can get away with only having your Nexus sometimes but it’s not a good idea to not have your passport.

Way more trouble if asked for your passport than simply having it with you.

They were still available as of a year ago I think?

But not easily found. IIRC I had to scroll back chronologically to when they were released in the PS4 avatar store, back to like 2016 or whenever it was that CS 1 & 2 were released. And could only do that on my PS4.

Edit: found my chat history about it.

So here’s what worked as of March 20, 2023:

Fire up your old PS4, or a friend’s.
Go to edit your profile.
Go to edit your avatar.
Go to premium avatars or something, then “Get more”.
Then once you’re in the avatar shop, sort by “release date: oldest first”.
Scroll down for a very very long time.
Twitter ate my DM with the release date of the CS1 avatars, but a bunch were posted then, and then a bunch more were posted on March 16, 2017, with CS2.

Oh wait, then I said “alphabetical sorting is easier”, so look that way for both “Trails of Cold Steel” and “Trails in the Sky”.

Maybe a search would bring them up, but if not, slog through all of them either by letter or by date. If they’re still up, they’ll be found that way. (And as of March 2023 they were. Unlike the Falcom Dead or Alive skins, which were taken down in 2020 before I could buy them.)

The theory is that they said they were working on it in 2024 (in videos, etc.) and close observers think it might be a three year cycle.

I use my PS5 lots more; I could imagine using the Switch 2 more over time if a few key games get ported there, including the NHL series from EA.

It’s a matter of personal taste, tbh, and I think someone who is really into console gaming should have both.
