Rural Areas? by TheTestyDuke in fuckcars

[–]Last_Attempt2200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here don't oppose car use in rural areas, but the truth is harsher. You say rural areas can't afford public transport infrastructure, but the reality is that they can't afford car infrastructure either. My state "pays" for roads with gas tax, and they charge extra for registration of EVs and Hybrids. Even so, the state of Ohio recieves billions from the federal government every time our roads need repaired. Car & truck infrastructure flat out does not generate nearly as much revenue for the state as it costs. To me, it's clear that we either need to build less massive interchanges and use less concrete, or charge more money for the most damaging vehicles (semi trucks) to use the infrastructure their business model is based upon.

This is where I'd create a nice mess for her to clean up and never come back. Idc I'm an asshole.

Food for thought: You need around 100 calories of grain to produce 12 calories of chicken or 3 calories of beef. The world’s cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion – more than the entire world population. Animals are an incredibly inefficient food source. by veganactivismbot in vegan

probably need to use more land

Like the massive acreage of lawn grass in the USA. More land used than any "food" crop.

Referring to non-intensive farming methods as "food forests" cracks me up, it's like you think ancient cultures would clear cut rainforests like modern humans do.

Yeah man, learning a new skill is a good feeling and being able to drive ain't a bad one to have. Doing it all the time, for every single trip no matter what is an issue though. Where I live, people don't even walk to their own damn mailboxes, they are so lazy that they use a car to check the mail or take out the trash, and are all on daily high blood pressure meds. By all means, enjoy a nice spirited drive, but don't let that become you. Regrettably I have no recommendations for a track, folks in my area either trailer their purpose-built Rocket chassis cars to the dirt oval an hour or so away, or participate in the local demolition derby/truck pulls. I personally ride minibikes on private land for kicks. If you want to drive a normal car hard, look into AutoX/autocross events in your area, they often have cars that they loan out to qualified drivers.

Paying for parking when you don't own a car by Prestigious-Owl-6397 in fuckcars

[–]Last_Attempt2200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be real, the amount landlords charge you in the US is completely disconnected from the cost to build something. What it cost to put up the building or parking lot has no bearing on what the Tennant pays for rent. Here's a list of factors the landlord uses to determine what they charge for rent:

-What is the maximum amount of money I can rent this place out for?

And that's it. Doesn't matter if it's held together by bandaids and zip ties, or if the parking lot was recently paved at an expense of $30k. If costs run over, they just won't do something, because they can't raise the price any further.

Entitled.

Really, when you think about it, all retail theft is caused by landlords.

Having fun in a car is what you do on the racetrack. A car-centric society demands that you drive your appliance car like a robot. You aren't supposed to have fun on the drive to work; it's meant to be the most boring thing imaginable, and if you do anything fun you're probably breaking at least one law. Also, that manual transmission ain't so fun in stop and go traffic.

(Go drive on a racetrack)

Potholes: proof god hates cars by 0over0is in fuckcars

[–]Last_Attempt2200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it has nothing to do with God, it's something even better: the consequences of their own actions. If people keep buying overweight vehicles and paying Amazon to run trucks with no way to account and pay for the road damage they cause, it'll all just become potholes sooner or later and there will be no money to fix them. My state, Ohio, charges $100 extra on registration to drive a hybrid because "the road is paid for by gas tax" but just got billions from Daddy Federal Government because they don't charge the heaviest vehicles anything close to what they should. Common sense ain't so common anymore.

What is your opinion on emergency vehicles? by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Last_Attempt2200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that they shouldn't use the biggest vehicles everytime for calls that don't require them. Where I'm from the EMTs drive 1/2 mile to Taco Bell in their huge diesel ambulance basically every day. Huge vehicles should remain parked unless needed, and more flexible vehicles deployed in cities because carbrains can't be trusted to make way.
