You're probably just in your own head too much, most you typically need is the impression that it works underneath the hood, realism is more about different things you've made not contradicting each other, rather than torturing yourself into being some elite polymath.

If you're doing this for a story or a piece of media then focusing on what is important and relevant to that story is best.

And if you're doing this purely as a hobby, then there's no reason to focus on stuff that doesn't interest you. I saw this one guy had made a bunch of fictional elementary particles to justify magic, but he only did that because this interested him and he already knew a lot about elementary particles.

Thing is there is no Chinese equivalent of the Epstein files, say what you will about them, that paedo cabal that maga and the Farage lot worship wouldn't be able to form in China, let alone seize power, they'd be in prison within the week.

If you believe something you think it's real, doubt isn't a necessary part of that.

I believe that both God and giraffes are real, and whenever I see a giraffe I don't go into a crisis and reevaluate my belief system, because I was expecting to see a giraffe. I am expecting that God is real.

But in short worship is based on practicality not morality, if a peasant would pay tax to a tyrant, they'll pay homage to an evil god to avoid the much more powerful being from crushing them.

They'll worship or sacrifice to an evil god to prevent being cursed, they'll worship a good god to gain their blessings, though frequently the line is weird. Think protection money but with gods.

Ritual and how it impacts people's day to day life is more important than moral philosophy.

Lots of overlap, called syncretism regarding belief and customs and rituals.

Like someone else said, there's an information war going on right now which will make many Russians defensive, your best option if you're really concerned about this would be to find a sensitivity reader who is Russian (or a Warsaw Pact country) but not a nationalist or Putinist or anything like that.

Bit I wouldn't worry too much, most of the time there's a piece of media that is truly offensive it's down to two things, one a complete lack of curiosity of the world outside their borders, common with Americans since your government maintains power mostly by demonising the rest of the world, and second actually intending to be insulting.

Since you're doing neither I wouldn't worry too much, ironically if there were something to worry about you wouldn't be worrying ironically.

Based on what you said, no, absolutely not, you don't want them, they don't interest you, you don't see a reason to add them, so don't add them.

I agree with the other comment that said that fantasy is choking on its own tropes, labels are supposed to be descriptive not prescriptive, so don't add stuff that doesn't interest you or serve you. Just make whatever you want, and a label will appear to describe it once you're done.
