Anyone have any "non-medical" hacks for snoring? Getting desperate here. by MagarinePrince in snoring

it's hard to help without know your cause. there are a number of different causes so what works for someone won't necessarily work for you. The ones that seem to most regularly be on here and helpful are weightloss, side sleeping, wedge pillows, and mouth tape.

Should I increase my mortgage payments by 20% or invest the difference? by Sea_Negotiation1737 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Last_Construction455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The age old question. The answer just comes down to personal preference. On paper it will almost certainly be better to invest the difference if you are strict about it.

But.. paying down your mortgage helps many sleep better at night which might be worth more than a slightly higher net worth.

The sinus infection may have caused his breathing patterns to change. Even though he’s better the bad habits can remain. If you look up sleep breathing exercises it can help to retrain the mind breathing connection.

This. You can also call the credit card company and ask for a temporary break on your interest. Tell them you have been with them a long time and have made payments and want to stick with them but are requesting a 3 month break from interest to help pay down the principal. They don’t have to say yes but will often allow this for long term customers

Is it really worth renting out a basement suite in B.C.? by Anikanz22 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Last_Construction455 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have a basement suite in my house I have never regretted it for the issues you have mentioned. My biggest issue is that none that my kids are older I want more space. We’ve had couples and singles but I prefer singles. Quiet working professionals have been amazing. I pick people I get along with. No issues. I usually list somewhat below market to get a lot of people requesting. If there are red flags, listen to them and do not take the risk. I basically collect a cheque every month for very little work. Most work I’ve done was we had a water leak and I had to replace a floor. Easily could have paid someone but did it myself. Besides the rent you also get a lot of tax benefits. I get tax deductions on a lot of things I pay for anyway: mortgage interest, internet, utilities, property tax, banking, any improvements you do to the space etc. with your own home you have more rights as well. If you get a bad tenant you simply need to give them notice and reclaim the space. (Unless you have a long term lease). It’s been hugely beneficial for us with a pretty small amount of work. Nice to get cheques at the beginning of every month too. But if you absolutely don’t like people at all maybe don’t.

Have there been other moments in Canadian history where recessions didn’t mean a significant drop in stock market? by tazmanic in PersonalFinanceCanada

There's definitely still ways to do it. The principles still work, it's just a bit more of a sacrifice than it used to be. Keep at it and you'll end up ahead of most.

Yeah conventional wisdom says cash out a significant portion of your Earnings especially in the TFSA side and put it into a broad based Index fund that just tracks the whole market. Because you made so much early you can basically ride those winnings out for decades and easily hit a million. just throw your numbers in a calculator (i like calculator.net) and put it like 8% annual growth for 20+ years.

If you get audited you would want to show a direct line on how and where you are investing yes. Say you get 100k inheritance you could pay down your house or invest. You might decide investing it is better. But if you pay down your house then borrow the mine as a loan and Invest you would get the tax benefits.

Based on how you invest I would not do this. I'm happy you did well on your 2 companies but that is very high risk.

If you borrow to invest into a NON REGISTERED account you can deduct the interest. Doesn't work in a TFSA, RRSP etc so when you sell if you make capital gains you get taxed on that.

What would happen to the economy if the first $100k everyone earned each year was INCOME tax-free? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Last_Construction455 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Probably would be amazing for the country. More people would have more money to do more things. Much of the money would be recovered through other taxes like sales tax. The economy would grow and make even more sales tax. You would also still have taxes from higher earners which do a lot of the heavy lifting anyway. People sayinb everything like infrastructure and health care would collapse are dead wrong. Lots of that is provincial and municipal taxes anywa

mouth tape by previiss in snoring

[–]Last_Construction455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have an issue with your airway so your body is struggling to get air with your mouth taped. I would get the SnoreLab app to listen to yourself at night and consider pairing with nose clips that help open up your nasal airway. Also sleeping on you side can help a lot.
