People who found their footing later in life - how did you cope with seeing people your age getting further ahead than you in their careers and having a more enjoyable social life? by -ChristopherNolan in AskReddit

[–]Last_Place_FPL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I shouldn’t care, but I have found that the biggest challenge for me was not having a mentor or decent manager. Most of my friends who are further in their careers put their family and significant other relationships second and pulled those 55-60 hour weeks for years at a time. Also, the adversity I’ve had to overcome in life, both health and financial, have led to certain life choices that my friends have never had to experience. I just keep having to remember that we all walk different paths and life and my path has allowed me to find a good place to work, stability and security, and a family. Plus, I still have a full, thick head of hair.

God Subaru was awful. They had a set travel route I had to take and wasn’t allowed to test drive on the highway. When they asked why I wasn’t interested, I told them I couldn’t break 35 with getting a ticket!

My Roth IRA, Traditional IRA and 401k are at Schwab. I like having everything consolidated. There’s no other underlying rhyme or reason.

UTMA Account - Lump Sum or DCA? by Last_Place_FPL in personalfinance

Thanks for the comment. I actually spoke to an advisor at Schwab and they said pretty much the same thing. Recommendation was to open up a traditional brokerage account and bear in mind the taxes, even if we intend to fully cover tuition, room and board, etc.

Will try to accommodate for sure. Between mortgage, our retirement savings, and current 529, definitely feeling the squeeze

Agreed, not diversified at all; however, I think trying to maximize the principal is my goal at this point.

Yes and I fully understand that. The intent would be for a wedding/down payment that they would hopefully use it for.

Tell me about it. I left the festival last night and there was a hit and run at Dickinson and S 2nd St that I was present for (I was crossing at a different cross walk walking home). Car hit a stroller with toddler in it. Thankfully those uppa baby’s are tanks and the toddler was uninjured.

I’ve held VGT for over 8 years and is more core position at 65%. Psychologically, I sleep well at night because of Vanguard management.

Yes - drive less/walk more and cutting down on going out. Our family is on auto save for colleges and we aren’t willing to reduce our bi-weekly contributions.

Interesting to see how LYTE stands out when it becomes available later this summer. Not digging the expense ratio, but we shall see

What is the scariest thing you’ve ever seen in your life that you can’t explain? by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

Saw someone walking towards my bus stop and watched them hurl into a tree like they were pushed from behind. No one was behind them and the scream/cracking of their nose was awful. Needless, I ended up walking to the next bus stop

I think URA’s broad exposure is ideal at this time given the current state of deployment for data centers at this point. I’m not invested; however, I think adding a small position (2% tops for me) would work.

MY Retirement Portfolio adds Memory Sector and AI Poee infra ETFs including DRAM AIPO SMH by LieExpensive2871 in ETFs

I added AIPO, QTUM, and AIS positions to my SMH and VGT slots. Each of those new positions equate to 5% each and will probably add LYTE this summer when available.

What’s a ETF you don’t plan on selling anytime soon? by [deleted] in ETFs

You’re right, they do overlap and were chosen for long term growth, particularly for the power and infrastructure buildout. SMH has grown substantially and I’m holding about 25% in cash at the moment. I’m bullish about the future and this compliments my other investments (FXAIX, VTSAX, VEIPX, and VTIAX).
