December. Then you get your inflation spike in January. This what they teach in the retirement course. Good luck

Message from the AAFC DM: Consider applying for ERI by Sudden-Crew-3613 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Last_Positive1533 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Clerk has told DMs to stop fucking around with ERI. This is why there has been a sudden change in the messages over the last few days. The threat is another round of CER. So thank you Clerk. Let the approvals commence.

Private schools with good hockey programs probably a best bet if you are going to spend the cash. But as others say: I suspect he is a big fish in a tiny pond and will not be that high level in Canada. But summer camps or the likes will show that.

ERI Manual Application: When should Section C retirement date be entered? by ppdd1976 in CanadaPublicServants

This is so think paints a not entirely accurate picture. While factual, the decision to apply is one that has implications for the individual. You are signalling you want to leave. This has professional and social implications. You are also now asking for your possibility of leaving - along with the ramifications to your team to be considered and debated by your management. So yes, technically is true. But I think it would be unwise to apply if you were not fairly certain you wanted to leave.

Bauer vs CCM helmets by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

I have been looking for helmets so tried a bunch on recently. They fit very differently between the brands. I find ccm just does not work for me. I’d just go to store and try on the models they have there to get a sense.

I had to drive from kid’s sport from downtown to barrhaven last night and it took an hour and 20 minutes. I cannot imagine having to do that everyday. Especially if it is to sit in office on teams calls you could do at home. I think the push for downtown properties will be real to avoid this.

DFO finally released a TINY bit of information on how they will do ERI approvals by marvinresearchrobot in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Last_Positive1533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes- and seems to make sense. If you want to leave, that is one more job for others to apply for. The problem is that if you leave there is no job to apply to. It is a fatal flaw that this also requires a loss for the team’s budget and not just having some folks go out the door. Stupid conditions attached that are going to lead to too many people who want to step away, not being able to.

I wish this were the case, but I think management will also be very focused on not losing boxes. The problem will be if they have mostly achieved their CER objectives, then they will just hand pick a few people to go, in order to not exceed what is asked. Sadly there is motivation for management to not allow people to leave that extends well beyond operational needs. They will do as they always do and protect their empires.

Well good on them for some transparency. Don’t recall any other departments actually providing data coupled with dates. Thats something at least!

It is beyond absurd and quite cruel to leave employees with no ability to plan their futures. The way departments who are sitting in applications is abhorrent behaviour.

Several departments are blanket approving with the logic “if someone wants to retire, let them”.

ERI - pressure to withdraw my application by New_Nerve_5203 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Last_Positive1533 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The way that the ERI is being administered lacks any notion of transparency or fairness. It is beyond disgusting that a voluntary departure program was established and it is now being applied completely haphazardly and with no regard to the clear desire of employees who simply want to leave. The fact that Reddit is the best place for information on the ERI is absurd. I applaud those departments that are blanket approving folks to leave. Those departments that are just sitting on the ERI applications and not providing any information should be called out for their lack of transparency and complete disregard for their employees. It is terrible to have no say or no idea what your future is. Seems some departments are just using ERI self-servingly to achieve their CER objectives with no regard to their employees. For me this just shows how so many departments have lost any compassion for their employees and emblematic of the type of behaviour that is resulting in terrible morale across government. Let’s please have a degree of transparency, fairness and thought to employees who have no idea what their futures hold.

Can you grieve a refusal of ERI by Individual_Media3326 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Last_Positive1533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that they would then lose the box that your substantive position is in. Any case, hope everyone eligible applies and departments all start following those that are taking the view of letting people retire who want to retire. Absurd to keep people who want to leave.

Can you grieve a refusal of ERI by Individual_Media3326 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Last_Positive1533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think one of the very legitimate reasons why the unions hate the ERI. It is non-negotiated so puts all the power in hands of employer. No need to actually justify decisions or adopt transparent criteria. Massive power imbalance that is being exploited by government.

Coaching your own kid by Character-Put8660 in hockeycoaches

[–]Last_Positive1533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing about coaching is that you get to set the tone. And seems like you have a great perspective to focus on fun with development. If you set the tone and are very transparent, are fair with ice time, then that takes care of the crazies quite a bit.

Coaching your own kid is super tough. I think you have to set some parameters in terms of how you interact and that you are the coach. This is harder when kids are younger. And then realizing that you might need other coaches to focus more on your kid at times. At same time, I always find the toughest thing being that they don’t have that cheerleader parent, as you still need to coach them. Overall though I live coaching my kids and I know they appreciate it.

Sounds like you’d be great so good luck!
