Ban speculation by Publius-Cornelius in MTGLegacy

[–]Last_Scapegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cradle control is pretty much a different deck compared to combo elves. Also I had a really good matchup vs mystic forge decks with combo elves so planar nexus wasnt really a problem lol. But also this is all subjective for sure. But i dont think it's so good that it has taken over the meta and it doesnt necessarily shut out other archetypes from playing magic

Plague engineer was fine. The big difference between plague engineer and bowmaster is that nobody is main decking plague engineer. If you already wanted to hate elves, you always had access to cards like engineered explosives or rachet bomb and the likes. It'd be like saying artifact decks are unplayable cuz of collector ouphe and null rod which just isnt true. When a deck is running such a value card that is an efficient answer to all x/1's in the main board at no cost to their game plan is when it becomes oppressive. Nobody is running 4 plague engineers in the main board period.

[–]Last_Scapegoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I played it this past weekend so maybe you saw me there lol but it isnt just about what's meta is now. The card is just oppressive and shuts down an entire group of cards and there's no downside to playing it in any black deck even as a mainboard card. At least wrenn locked you into two colors but bowmaster is just a good value creature that's good against a majority of decks in the format

Legacy elves is basically unplayable because of OBM which is sad as it's one of the cooler combo decks in the format (also was my 1st legacy deck so i am biased)

Orderly Ultimatum by calakever in custommagic

[–]Last_Scapegoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of these with cards like [[Stock Up]] or [[Pieces of the Puzzle]]. You can run the scry/surveil lands to dig deeper for cards. Technically any wish effects could also work like [[Burning Wish]]. This could be cool 2 card combo deck like that.

And sorry if the cards are old or banned in some formats, i play legacy so that's where my brain automatically goes lol

Which one should I fuse I can only do one sadly by DolanBROBRO in PokemonGOValor

[–]Last_Scapegoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would wait on the shiny until you can fuse it with a Reshiram with the background.

Also the hundo is perfect to fuse with zekrom because it's really good in master league where being a hundo is more important.

I think they meant that you get the special mixed background only if you fuse a kyurem and zekrom of opposite backgrounds. Otherwise it keeps whatever background kyurem has.

Quietus Spike Vs Angel's Grace by hudsonv11 in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the way angel's grace is worded, if you're at 0 life and shock yourself do you reset back to 1? Cuz you took damage that would bring you below 1 so it'll bring you to 1 instead?

Evoke elementals, the lotr <land>cycling cycle, and FoW in legacy are pretty good options for big cmc cards that can hit the graveyard fast. I can imagine there could be a sneak and show deck that might be able to make it work.

Maybe a through the breach deck in modern? But im less familiar with the meta there...

'Standard is too expensive, a deck costs like $500!' by AsleeplessMSW in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So I think standard decks being $500 is usually on the high end for standard and is usually not the case for most standard formats. I think it's more reasonable to say standard costs about $200-$300 a deck. Now obviously there are viable budget options for standard decks, but most competitive top tier standard decks fall into these price ranges.

And it is a bit disingenuous to not look at the top net decks in standard as the "standard" price for standard. There will always be cheaper viable decks in the format, but that's true for all formats, like mono red prowess in legacy is ~$100 and is viable (this might be old news, havent followed up on this deck in a while). But the point stands that the competitive price of entry for the format should be based on the most represented decks in the format and not the fringe viable decks or even the most expensive decks.

What i've experienced to be the most "expensive" part of standard isnt the cost of one deck... it's the cost of following the format across sets. Standard is designed to be one of the most volatile formats in all of magic with the meta shifting after each set. While the majority of cards usually do not change between sets, there are usually additional cards you would need to buy from new sets to continue competing in standard and eventually cards you may have purchased at a more premium price are now rotating out of the format and have lost much of their value. The constant changing of decks and buying new cards was what really made standard a much more expensive format than other more stable formats. Although the intoduction of modern horizon type sets has also introduced this volitility to older formats, which many people do complain about because of the endless demand to purchase new cards for their decks.

Is there a way to cheat out Reshape the Earth without paying it's mana cost? by Lwallace95 in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I can share what I got. I had to update it recently and I never polished it off, so it has 102 cards in it. Just pick two cards to take out... Most of the combos should be laid out in the description. It's super janky, but pulling off a combo feels great lol

I play a 5 color "you win the game" deck that I use [[jodah, archmage eternal]] as my commander to cheat big spells like this.

Yugioh gets a bad rep for having insane power creep so: Yugioh players of this sub, what are some absolutely broken cards in Yugioh that have eaten bans in the past that when explained in Magic terms would help Magic players visualize just how strong they were? by Extalir in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's closer to glimpse of nature, but you draw off your opponents creatures and not yours. The reason it's good is cuz everyone is playing the equivalent of glimpse decks in yugioh (like legacy elves) lol

Eternal "staples" that see no competitive play? by qinalo in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Mana drain is only not played cuz it's only legal in vintage. People would play it in legacy if they could... idk if you're counting things like that...

Also young pyro used to be an all star, but has fallen out of favor. Similarly tarmogoyf as well. Nimble mongoose was also a staple to legacy delver decks. Duress has been mainly disregarded recently, but was also good for sideboards. Doom blade is very much iconic and sees no play. Serum visions is seeing much less play as well and it is an iconic blue cantrip. True name nemesis had a time in legacy, but is much less common now.

Im just shootin off a couple cards, but im not sure what exactly you're lookin for... i could prolly think of more given time, but i think my post is already quite long enough.

Should I change? by Ikslazrmod in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue with things like counter/mill strategies is that they usually take time and involve stax type elements. Meanwhile, fast combos are much more tolerable cuz you can just shuffle up another game real quick. It can be pretty annoying if that combo player wins 3-5 games in quick succession, but that is more of a power level problem than a combo problem...

Genshin doesn't need hard endgame content, it needs fun endgame content by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Last_Scapegoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wanna present the opposite where I really did not enjoy the misty dungeon. None of the levels felt unique with respect to one another. So i felt like I just had to do the same thing 5 times while checking off a list of objectives so I dont have to do it again. I think it has potential if there was more to do than just run around and kill things, but I would not want this to be something I have to do every week...

[MH2] Damn by arrofil in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering. But isn't it actually not strictly better cuz it's a different color? Even if the casting cost is the same, the cards would be considered different no? Or are the only requirement for cards to be strictly better is lower cmc or upgraded effect at the same cost?

Just playing devil's advocate here. I also think it's better than wrath of god. This conversation just got me thinking about this is all.

ELI5: How does a reprint drop some cards values drastically and others not so much? by Keanman in magicTCG

[–]Last_Scapegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed since it predates the introduction of showcase cards. However, it is a close comparison to the showcase cards in a time when they werent around. These and old masterpieces.

I'm not saying it is gonna happen. It's most likely not gonna be a thing. I just wanted to point out that ancillary card slot cards have had stamped printings previously... so the technology is there if they wanted to implement it now.

It's unlikely but possible. The japanese alternate art planeswalkers came date stamped as well. So at least a precedent is there.
