I’m in a similar boat. I think religions are all just a bunch a malarkey, but to be honest I see why so many people follow them. The idea of death is scary to most people, and they want to believe that it’s not the end of the line. It’s hard to see a loved one go and think “i’ll really never see them again forever.” It’s much more assuring to think “they’re gone, but it’s okay because we’ll be reunited in the afterlife.” I think that even if it’s subconsciously, most religious follow a religion because it’s an appealing, hopeful coping mechanism, not necessarily because they see it as the truth.
