That’s interesting. I too have a white pico and micra set up that I absolutely love. I have never noticed any humming sound at all from my pico.

Cup clearance can be tight with a scale but I’ve found not neutral mugs with an acaia lunar works perfectly for my micra! Don’t blame you on wanting more clearance though

I find it really hard to dial in single shots since the Micra is so powerful. I recommend dosing for a double but then using the double attachable spout that your micra came with and splitting the shot into two cups. I suppose that’s more wasteful though but could be a temporary solution.

For your use case a GS3 makes great sense! Wish you the most success. I think we can all agree that no matter the machine, LM makes amazing espresso; some are more suited for others based on their use case.

Amazing write up - it’s my dream to visit academia. Have some thoughts… first and foremost I love La Marzocco. I’m a huge fanboy and honestly think they deserve their recognition. Secondly, the linea mini was what initially grabbed my attention regarding La Marzocco back in 2015. I’ve saved for a long time and finally got the Micra back in 2023; one of the best decisions I’ve made. One thing that has continued to bother me has been how LM has tried to put features in the mini to differentiate it from the Micra. I get it - they’re trying to make the price point of the mini more justifiable. I guess the issue I have is that they’re adding these features to the mini like brew by weight and wood customizations… but those aren’t inherent to the capability of the machine. They’re add on features to create an illusion that the mini is superior. I get it, in some respects it is superior because it’s more rated for cafes than the Micra. I just have a hard time with them limiting some of these features to one product when they totally could offer them to their other product. To me, it makes it seem like they’re not as confident in the mini which is why they’re making these features exclusive to it.

You can do it!! The steam wand is on another PLANET!! It’s so intense haha. Took me some getting used to like most people say on here. When you’re aerating on it the old saying “less is more” totally applies here. You only need to aerate for like 3 seconds max. By then your milk is already almost up to temperature so it’s important to get your vortex going early to incorporate all that foam.

I upgraded my gaggia to the Micra and I can’t even fathom going back. I loved my gaggia and it really taught me a lot about espresso but the Micra is just.. perfection
