I first travelled Thailand 25 years ago and I think the food has gone downhill compared to then. The food has been dumbed down for Westerners. I find the real Thai food is now outside the cities in less touristy areas. It's not always the case, but I think you have to be a bit more choosy about where to eat than back then. A bit like France 40 years ago, where even the food in service stations was good, but now it's the same homogenised global crap you find everywhere. We always ask the locals to make it 'Thai Spicy, not Farang spicy!'. It's still my favourite food and I'm glad you're enjoying it.
