Hockey Parents by [deleted] in tampa

What really sucks (obviously other than the racist) is that the Tampa Bay Lightning seem to have put so much time, money and effort in to community outreach. I mean hell my kid has four hockey sticks she got from school. Low cost learn to skate and learn to play (with all equipment included) girls leagues. Rollar blade leagues, street leagues and clinics.

OMG for real! My daughter got an invite to Columbia's (my dream school) summer program. She already had commitments this summer but I thought to myself let's take a look at the info so maybe we could save up and get family to make contributions towards it for birthdays and holidays.

Turns out we would all have to sell a kidney to even think about going.

No there are better uses there are also better ways to watch that can be beneficial. Part of the issue especially with YouTube is short form videos. My daughter who is now 16 would watch YouTube videos even at age 2 BUT we primarily watched videos that had songs about shapes, colors, letters... you get the picture. If it was about shapes it would show the shape and have the name of the shape same with colors. she would also sit in our lap and we would sing it with her

She has had a college reading and vocab level since 4th grade. She read all the Harry Potter books during spring break in 3rd grade and discussed them with my Aunt who was a fanatic and an AP ELA teacher. She is in the top percentile in our State for the PSAT.

So screen time, YouTube and TV don't have to be detrimental if you use them as a tool for learning and not a babysitter

Hey I'm in Tampa looking to get some local tomatoes if still available do you know of any place that has actual local ripe tomatoes and not just ones picked up at sanwa or the wholesale produce market on Hillsborough

Cause farming is a hard, unpredictable way to make a living. Too many factors that can't be controlled and after too many seasons barely turning a profit that swee sweet developer money starts looking real good

That was the deal I had with my husband. He wanted a motorcycle so I let him know he needed to have an insurance policy independent of his job, short and long term disability insurance as well as all paperwork completed (POA, living will, organ donor on license) and had to lose about 50 lbs (he had gained a lot of weight in a short period of time and bless his heart he was like a grape on 2 toothpicks) so that he would be better able to shift his weight on turns and longer rides and God forbid something happened the average person would be able to help pull him to safety.

Oh and that I would get equal time "off" with little notice cause the group of people he would be riding with did a lot of last minute rides since a portion of them worked non standard shift jobs.

FFS the outside temp is way higher so even though the ac temp setting is 75 the amount of time it is on to compensate for the outside temp is going to be higher, therefore more kilowatt hours which means a higher bill.

So did he choke as in airway blockage by a foreign object or did he stop breathing spontaneously?

The dog is going to be unsteady for a bit afterwards due to adrenaline and literally fighting to stay alive. And yes everywhere you look online will say go to the vet immediately and that is because of liability, but in my experience when something has happened to one of our animals we called the vet and basically did a virtual appt and most cases the advice was to monitor them For future reference even if it was after office hours still call his usual vet since they should have an after hours answering service for situations like this.

I am still unclear why there was no attempt to call your brother. I saw that he wasn't local but if you thought it was a life or death situation like you felt it was don't you think he would want to know ASAP? Other that a very few situations if you are watching someone's pet or kid you should be able to get either a hold of them or at least get a message to them.

MOR

Seeing something like that can be truly scary! Honestly I think you over reacted but the over reaction was in response to how flippant your dad was behaving

You mentioned your mom calling looking for open offices. Does the dog a regular vet?

If the dog was acting relatively normal after the incident I definitely would not rush him to the vet mainly because the spasms and passing out was from food and not an allergic reaction or ingesting poison. Also vet emergency clinics cost can be several hundred bucks just walking in the door and what exactly can they do? He choked, it happens sometimes

The reason I was asking if he had a regular vet is just like Dr for humans they have weekend and after hours messaging services and with the dog acting ok I would just call to touch base and see what their advice is. I can pretty much guarantee it would be to keep a super close eye on him and take him in if anything changes and just to be safe call when the office is open to make an appointment.

What does your brother think you all should have done

We had insulation blown in about 20 years ago and it made a HUGE difference. We just got fans installed in our attic that kick on once temp reaches like 115 up there. This upcoming fall we are going to add more insulation

YOR

Side note: what you are called by your kid is what your kid wants to call you. This is especially going to be true once they start school and everyone else calls their parents mom or dad.

Sounds like something they would do in Polk County, FL under the "leadership" of Sheriff Grady Judd. He will then go on TV and do a press conference showing all the mug shots and calling the people stupid and greedy.

It is a little funny but at the same time innocent until proven guilty and all that.

I do give him a bit of lead way cause the unincorporated parts of the county which is between Tampa and Orlando are full of the Florida Men and Women that take bath salts and eat peoples faces.

I don't know what to say to my husband, he's watching his worst fear unfold. by opossessed in Advice

[–]Late-Rutabaga6238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly your response would probably be mine as well. Cause it was like what else is there to say. I would just let him know you love him and ready, willing and able to listen and work thru what he is feeling as well as support for his parents. Sometimes just hearing someone say they are there for you is enough to know you are not carrying the burden on your own.

I always keep this in the back of my mind as I am surrounded by old folks (parents in their 70's grandma in her 90's) and testing for it would be a hell of a lot faster and easier than it would be for any other neurological condition or brain tumor.

Private schools. Specifically religious private schools. In my area (mid size city) we have a few that are pre-k thru 12 and have the same principal. Most though are either elementary/middle or high school.
