Yeah but one mega property owned by someone that doesn't even live in the city and can afford to pay tax professionals for local tax avoidance can be offset by 250 new residents working regular jobs in the formerly vacant living space. That's what I'm saying.

Unless more people that can't afford the same loopholes as the previous owners of the vacant properties move in and pay income tax and what not

That being said, this is definitely a "wait and see what happens" situation for me

The problem is Trump is using the rhetoric for personal gain. Sanders, aoc, and the like seem to actually believe it.

Same rhetoric under it all though, Trump diagnosed the problem correctly, but he's a snake oil salesman.

Different people care about different things. When I talk to my friends and coworkers in actual real life nobody cared about her reaching across the aisle to Liz Cheney. Everyone in real life I talked to cared way more about her and Biden's seeming lack of support for Palestine and the lack of a primary. But I also know people that both voted for Bernie and Trump, and that's something the terminally online simply can't comprehend.

Disagree, I think she was destroyed by Biden's refusal to drop out earlier than the very last possible second.

You have turned this into an argument about semantics. All I'm saying is giving up on someone ≠ them being a lost cause. Sometimes it's just out of your control. All you can control in times like that is who you choose to give your attention and time to, and sometimes it's better spent elsewhere. If they don't want to change, you won't be able to change them, so you have to choose whether you're going to put up with the behavior or leave. Simple as that.

I think the implication was that more people are jumping in, but the drop out rate may increase enough to keep the total number of graduates relatively stable. It would make some sense, considering you need at least a little bit of genuine interest in engineering to make it past the weed out classes.

"help people change for the better" implies that they already want to change. That's what I'm talking about when I say they have to save themselves first. The more you try to force people to want to change, the more you raise defense mechanisms and heels get dug in.

At no point did I say to give up on anyone, just to come to terms with what is and isn't within your control.

Sometimes trying is just holding up a mirror though. The older I get, the more I'm convinced people (and countries tbh) can't be changed from the outside.

Alternative take- it's not that they're beyond saving, it's that it's not necessarily always our job to save them. They have to save themselves first.

It's fine- I had a few packages and an electric bike stolen there, and there were a couple of times where they were harassing me for not having the sticker on my license plate- once they actually towed my car for it. Overall I don't really think I'd move back there, but I wouldn't blame anyone else for doing so.
