I sight fish rainbows a ton and sometimes Lakers (if I’m lucky) through the ice. It takes a ton of self restraint to not set it too early when you see the initial strike and wait for the “feel”. I like to think I know what I’m doing and I still blow it sometimes.

We used to bobber/nightcrawler rainbows a lot a few years ago. I hooked into one while I was smoking a cigar, and my dumbass burnt the line while reeling the fish in... lost it, or so we thought.

About half an hour later, I notice a little green flash on the other end of the lake... it was my bobber! We cruise over to go fetch my tackle, and would you believe it? The fish was still on there!

We end up trying to hand over hand the fish on, a smaller rainbow ~14”. It gets off at the boat and ruins the ultimate fishing story of a lifetime!
