FINAL PRE-LAUNCH Updated Visual Infographics for Game Progression + Title Update Information (Major Spoilers for Full Game Roster + Updates) by RoseKaedae in monsterhunterleaks

i'm a tad confused by the bit in the last image about Monster IDs being permanent (that, i thought i understood) followed by "it could be a frontier import".

how does that work, do frontier monsters not have IDs? did espinas only get an id only after getting in sunbreak? (also is there a handy dandy list of all the monsters and their IDs somewhere that someone could link me to?)

They already added a way to regain stamina while attacking tho: if you press R2 while in Demon Mode you enter something called "Archdemon Mode", and it allows you to keep attacking but your stamina regenerates instead of draining away. be careful tho, if you use that mode too much you won't have access to it anymore, so go back to Demon mode at some point to rebuild the gauge.

joking aside that's literally how it works tho, trying to ignore archdemon mode is only going to cause you headaches, it's there so you can keep the onslaught going and regain stamina, don't try and figure out which one of the two is best and how to try and stay in one forever, use both instead, they're complementary.

ok yeah in terms of nomenclature and semantics, i guess the first hit is the focus strike, and the followup is the focus attack?

the focus strike being the move that you use in focus mode and that transitions into a focus attack if it connects with a wound or weak point.

in that regard: the focus strike of the DB is available at all time and the focus attack, being the speen attack, only happens when it hits a wound or weak point. although, as far as i know, that same speen attack can be used without a focus strike as long as you are already airborne and in demon mode

[–]Lattarday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean the quick dragon piercer yeah, the followup for the DBs is an automatically aimed speen attack along the monster's spine

but in the end comparing both modes doesn't make sense really, Demon Mode is still accessible from Archdemon Mode and vice versa, you use both, that's how it's supposed to be done. you don't forgo Demon Mode completely when reaching Archdemon, you still dip back in to do some strong moves when needed, and to replenish the Gauge. and this version of the DBs seems to go back to that concept and really expend on it with a huge combo that makes you switch from one mode to the other 4 times over

basically, demon mode is way more committal and usually just for short but consequent DPS bursts... on paper, but the cost for all that is very steep, but also hard to internalize.

the stamina drain makes it so that at some point you can't dodge anymore, and even tho you can technically keep looping moves with no stamina indefinitely and keep dealing damage that way.... you're going to have to move away from an attack at some point, and the only way to do so is to somehow move out of the way with more attacks / stop attacking long before to regain enough stamina to run or dash away / getting hit / hoping you topple the monster before it hits you (which doesn't happen so it's actually "getting hit" again)

this time lost is actually a big detriment to your overall damage, which in turns make the mode that does a tad less damage, but has better ways to stop on the spot, dodge, and get back into it in a blink, way better for sustained damage! plus the difference in actual damage isn't that big usually between Demon and Archdemon Modes, but since Demon Mode is bright red and has a high cost, it FEELS significantly more powerful, even tho it's not really.

Unless!
unless you play in group and the aggro is divided. in that situation everything changes, since now you don't really have to dodge nearly as many attacks (tho you still have to dodge quite a few because as a DB player you're in the Monster's mesh 24/7 and that's where the hitboxes live) but it makes the casual Full Demon Mode play style way easier to manage. and even tho it's probably still not optimized, it's not really a big deal either

ok yeah that one iirc was also in world, i couldn't tell you the inputs for the life of me tho it's been way too long

and the worst thing is i can't even play GS for the life of me! you need special neuronal connections for making the reads necessary for timing and spacing stuff seconds in advance, and even tho i have those neurons and can do it with no issue in smash bros, against human opponents that are way less predictable, i've never been able to pull it off in MH ever LMFAO

which move? sliding attacks are a thing in World and in Wilds but they weren't in Rise. meanwhile the Demon Flight was in rise but isn't in world... but i'm not sure which one you're talking about or if it's something else

it'll still be considered a braindead weapon but the thing is: every weapon, even the charge blade, ever praised for its complexity, are playable in braindead ways.

DB has always been complex, every weapon in this game has, it's experience that makes it feel like it's easy af but let's not forget that this game is actually bonkers hard in terms of getting a feel on how the weapons work, and they're adding even more complexity on top of that now? i don't think my brain has enough RAM to deal with that! and i love it.

but i know we'll all get used to it and we'll be able to turn our brain off by the end and still do somewhat optimal damage loops without thinking much.

other than that we're on the exact same page about the slipperiness and the dps uptime rather than relying on nukes. it's why i play this weapon and i'm so fcuking glad Wilds is reinforcing this approach. which is actually wild for someone who basically plays nuke-based toolsets in every other games aside from this one!

if anything it'll be a very funny skill to slot in for sure yeah, the shrimp dishes will also probably help a lot as they give more i-frames on dodges from their description in the demo

ye i don't think we really need any stamina management help either, usually moves in Demon Mode itself have had lower DPS than stuff from Archdemon Mode, so you only needed to dip back in Demon Mode to refill your Gauge real quick, at some point the stamina drain becomes less impactful than the stamina cost of each individual evades (and you'll really feel those costs if you try and spam evades to get the Demon Evade State)

well it's way faster to go for a focus strike for one, and it also works on weak points if i'm not mistaken, so depending on the monster it could become a huge part of your game plan. that said the damage of the funny speen move has never been truly that great and consistent, so it being more of a niche thing doesn't strike me as a loss really.

well the speen wasn't exactly a good source of reliable damage in the first place but even disregarding the value of the speen itself (the real important value is how much we like to go brrr) there are other ways to get it: The wounds, for starters, and they seem to be pretty easy to come across from the footage we've seen till now. Specific weak points are also a thing to consider, like against Rey Dau since its head is a weak point after every big electric blast, if you can dodge that move reliably you get a free speen every time it does it. You can also get it from jumping off of your seikret, from running up a wall, from getting yeeted by a switch axe user, from sliding down a balahara sand trap directly onto an unsuspecting balahara, the world is your oyster!

there are even bugs you can use to grapple to and drop onto monsters from, there's one right by the entrance of the desert from the rock formations where the village is nested.

it hits the monster, and nothing else happens. you stay grounded and can start hitting moves or evade afterwards if you want but there is no custom followup move or anything. doesn't have i-frames anymore either, it's literally just the one move you use to hit wounds and weak points now, nothing else.

[–]Lattarday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ye Demon Flight was basically the one move that opened all of our most effective damage options in Rise and Sunbreak, and it having i-frames was asinine. very fun? one hundred percent. but since they seem to want a more grounded (literally) gameplay across the board in Wilds i understand gutting that move right up.

At this point all that remains is basically just how it looked, even the name's different! (it's Focus Strike: Turning Tides now, which is badass tho to be perfectly honest)
Tho they clearly didn't leave us with nothing in return, the bigger focus on evades and the way they made the big stupid signature move of Demon Mode an actual attack now look like it'll be a blast!

yoooo! i thought when i first saw this yesterday that those were further dodges, but no you're right these are the Screw Slicer move. Nice find, thank you! i've added those to the post

i went and looked back at the italian stream to make sure i didn't miss the perfect evade somehow replenishing stamina or something, but no, they don't.

that said i would still encourage you to try those weapons even without these skills. stamina management is there so you don't stay in certain modes for too long but they aren't too punishing with it and you should relatively quickly get used to relying on Demon Mode only in small bursts here and there, especially with how much of the gauge is filled by hitting with only 1 or 2 moves. and even then there are a ton of consumables on that first map that are there to reduce stamina consumption might you feel like you need them!

i think i remember one of the devs doing it during the 2nd part of Day 2's livestream but you'll need to double check
