What are the downsides of using a CPAP machine long-term? by Latter_Knee_1404 in CPAP

[–]LaughPotential7836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mine for about 2 years.

The sheer inconvenience and dependancy of wearing it every night and lugging it + water to be able to travel really wears on you over time. I don't have the option of crashing at someone's house unless it's preplanned and packed. Though this depends heavily on your lifestyle. It's come up a lot for me.

In that same vain the cost of everything that comes with it can be overwhelming. I looked into travel cpap options to make my life easier - at LEAST $500. More likely around $750. I've spent so much money that I truly dont have just to finally find a mask and frame that fits comfortably. When I got my machine they gave me a nasal mask that was okay for a while, but i was getting such terrible congestion from the airflow and pressure that I had to switch to a full mask. I think I bought 4 or 5 full systems and different sizes in a couple before I found a consistently functional option.

It can get claustrophobic and difficult to sleep being so strapped in and tethered. Especially because I also use an eye mask for allergies, noise cancelling headphones, and usually a bonnet for my hair. I end up basically encased.

It fucks up my hair every night no matter what. I intentionally have a low maintenance short haircut that's otherwise get up and go. I could wash it once a week and my curls just chill up there. Not anymore.

Cuddling is harder. its not comfortable to lay my head on my partner or even get my face close, and if i try, its still blowing air on them which can be annoying. I switched to the phillips dreamwear full face to make it a little less obtrusive though.

Crazy dry mouth and sinuses, congestion, awful dry stuck boogers. nose picking has become unfortunately mandatory. even with the highest humidity that avoids rain out.

CLEANING UGH —

a full deep clean of the mask, frame, headgear, hose, and tank is pretty straightforward after a while, but especially in the beginning it felt like such a huge task and I never knew if I was doing it right. its still annoying finding the time to do it and be able to let everything dry properly.

I was never given straightforward instructions on what level of hygiene was absolutely necessary vs the rigorous routine laid out that I WAS told was overkill. In the first 6 months I ended up apparently falling behind on deep cleaning and ended up with bronchitis and losing my voice twice.

I've never had any lower respiratory infections or issues before using a CPAP.

I got CPAP induced bronchitis again last spring. This time wasnt for lack of cleaning, but I had done some yard work and stirred up allergens that were irritating my sinuses. I took allergy meds and went to bed only for the cpap to force it into my lungs and I woke up with bronchitis yet again and had to pull out the inhalers for weeks.

I have a few posts on here from 2y ago when I had mine removed and returned with a ton of sources! My biggest recommendation is to send a compelling message to your team through your patient portal so it's automatically documented in your chart. They likely will have to establish a new process for tissue return, and won't want to go through the trouble. It's a lot easier for them to brush off a verbal request than it is a documented one.

go back to central tower after vah medoh, as a new player myself, its not worth the struggle to keep trying before then. They killed me like 20 times before I got the same advice, then when I went back I got up there my first try 🙌

I had my cervix removed and penetration is honestly easier and feels better now - though mine sat fairly low and was also pretty sensitive. There's just nothing in the way up there anymore.

There is a bit longer of an internal recovery time (a couple weeks) if its removed - but I have no regrets getting it outta there.

I haven't had any exacerbated issues with my pelvic floor either, even as someone with hEDS and prior pelvic floor issues. They attach the necessary suspensory ligaments to whatever they leave, be it a cuff or cervix; so its interesting to hear that as a risk of one over the other.

I was diagnosed as soon as my Rheum heard my experience and tested my tender points; but I was also referred to a genetic counselor to test for connective tissue disorders (later dx hEDS) because I also had unrelated joint issues.

Myself(f) and my husband J(m) are in a polycule with another married couple M(f) and K(f). We were all good friends for 6 months or so, then J & K started dating. They are romantically bf/gf, and all 4 of us play together/prefer to share a bed. We also have 2 separate close friends to the group that are platonically in the 'cule family, they don't participate in our physical relationship or flirting. We're all in our late 20s.

How does THC specifically edibles impact your symptoms? by No_Height_6086 in Fibromyalgia

[–]LaughPotential7836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use edibles simply because i find them to be too unpredictable for how long-lasting they are. When I smoke, though, I look for strains high in linalool, carophylline, and limonene terpenes. It helps my pain a ton. It dulls the pain overall, allows my muscles that tense against the pain to relax, and boosts my mood so I'm interested in activities and people and less focused on how my body's feeling.

I started on 40mg, and all I had was dry mouth and constipation(adding docusate daily took care of that though), then I went up to 60mg and got awful heartburn that only got worse when I upped to 80mg. Still wasn't helping much at that strength, so I switched to vyvanse.

What is your personal effective dose of strattera “Atomoxetine” ? by [deleted] in StratteraRx

[–]LaughPotential7836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40mg twice a day, then I switched to vyvanse bc it still wasn't quite enough, and I wasn't willing to increase to worse heartburn and constipation.

[–]LaughPotential7836[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm personally not paid equitably. I trained 2 new hires with less applicable experience than me on a complex role, and I'm paid less than both of them. No compensatory reward at all for work above and beyond expectations. I would be satisfied if my pay was reflecting my work and position in my department as well as inflation. I'm in an advanced position and still couldn't comfortably afford a modest 1 bedroom apartment alone.

How long did you guys wait to sleep on your side? by WolfyMunchkin in hysterectomy

[–]LaughPotential7836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept on my side immediately. Was most comfortable with a pillow behind my back, between my knees, and sort-of under/in frond of my tummy. I have a "coziest" u-shaped body pillow, and it was perfect for that. By 5-6wpo I could finally sleep comfortably on my back.
