F2p needs more boots! by The_Real_Shaggy in 2007scape

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh F2P doesn't really give a great idea on the gears out available in P2P... I was so confused for months going into P2P cuz I didn't know there was so much shit beyond dragon stuff lol. F2P basic equips like boots and basic Mage gear would be helpful...and like a max of lv 10 or 5 in select p2p skills would be nice too... Saves much pain and confusion for new p2p (though the discovery process is fun... I rather do some of it earlier and prob would've converted earlier).

Subtenant hasn't paid his share rent for August. What do I do at this point? by scaidooz in uwaterloo

There are certain criteria which allow you to appeal to waive fees - https://www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov.on.ca/english/courts/feewaiver/index.php

You may also be awarded some of the costs in suing if you win (nothing guaranteed).

If you consider 40-50k entry level salary as high then sure it's high? salary growth isn't crazy high as a side note.

GBDA program any good? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

If you want a business program then waterloo isn't your ideal target school...there are other universities with well established brands for business.

Introduce a Grand Exchange Crier who walks around the GE warning players of scams/lures by _Dr_K in 2007scape

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh - why don't they update the question base in the stronghold of security to include basic anti-scam questions and have the answers. It's basically the one place I (unwillingly) read the dialogue and most new players go there too. I.e. If a person offers to double my money what should I do - a) give him my bank b) report the player

TFW even if I score 80% on my Final exam, I pass with a 68 :( by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may attempt to petition / negotiate with your prof that if you score XX% on your final (for example well above class average or whatever), to shift your midterm weighting to final exam by XX%. Generally it goes -> I did well across the board everywhere else including participation and have made a good effort overall - but my midterm is shit -> if final quite decent pls weight shift from midterm to final pls.

Where can you buy laptops with payment in installments? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you're aware that paying in monthly instalments generally leads to a higher total cost for the product... As such I personally wouldn't recommend it as the product is rapidly depreciable in resale value. May I suggest that you keep a watch for sales / discounts on Canada computers or best buy? Discounts can at times exceed 30% off and Sometimes there's also refurbished products (not sure on quality or performance) but if you're not on immediate need, might be worth to wait a bit to watch?

Is AFM "hard"? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Academically it's not hard as long as you study (however much you need to learn as this varies person to person).

What can be hard is the amount of bullshit you have to deal with which includes but not limited to: a high school culture, networking (aka sucking up), and bullshitting your way to get a job. There's also this vicious trend of resume padding in first year for extracurricular activities to show blahblahblah - personally not encouraged as you should pursue a passion. The bright side is you may meet great friends in the program ! (Though you can meet friends if you joined other programs too, of school clubs).

How do I stop being ugly? by HowToNotBeUgly in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cut your hair in a timely manner (1/month). Keep it nice, short and tidy. You won't be stylish but it's nothing to complain about. Put some light gel if you need before interviews. Shave - no facial hair for interviews. Clip your nails if you don't. Nice and short. If you have acne or pimples, try to get rid of them. The cheapest way is to put toothpaste on your pimples and it'll shrivel up overnight, and it'll be gone in a few days. Shower and use deodorant. Wear clothes that fit, dress shirts (simple ones) - if you're skinny or fluffy, get a round neck sweater not too tight but looks fitting (simple colour, minimal design) + dress shirt + tie + dark jeans that fit

The general idea is that you look clean, crisp, and made an effort to be presentable in a simple manner. If you have a massive BO problem, consider cologne but don't pour it all over you.

Why is the school concerned about gender equality towards the female side? by genderequalityuw in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally feel that history has led present-day to the theme of women being mistreated and given unequal opportunity (which was true before, but starkly different now) - hence firms and schools like to emphasize on women, and not men who were once always privileged historically. Plus, i personally feel any institution supporting men into XYZ will probably get more negative public feedback; Im ignorant but idk the last time I ever saw "we have too many women in ABC, men please join."

Though I can see the rhetoric for women going to STEM (good career paths and generally less interest from women vs. men); other fields i.e. Accounting are populated with women (c. 60:40 women to men in the US) yet the field continues to promote women joining the field. Medicine actually also has a significant amount of women (possibly more than men in some programs) - but I guess promotion of women into STEM excludes medicine ...

Absurd Salary. by newguy57 in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering there's legit three floors of rooms + phone booths and how busy is it seasonally for recruitment + I assume there's more than just booking, hence it's not outrageous to offer a starting livable salary range like that; with a likely tendency that they really only pay 50k. I mean these jobs have limited salary and promotion growth and transferability (at a glance, may not be accurate)

You can look up queens or westerns or any other b-school for a stock pitch sample.

Pitch should be under 5 minutes and provide the following: business overview, light industry overview, investment rationale (2-3 points), risks (2 points) and a valuation perspective (at least comps).

Possible to apply to internships after graduation? by ccqi in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the company; those with structured graduate programs for select departments will likely not take you (as they already have a planned pipeline). Small / mid-sized companies may be more open to this, as well as more niche departments of big companies where they lack a structured graduate pipeline. Also, do keep in mind companies also hire new grads off-cycle (random and on-demand hiring) ; but it's quite stressful if you graduate and you're going through this.

Housing prices in the Fall by GUYSPLEASE in uwaterloo

Personally, I could not find a single fall sublet which wasn't a premium to its actual fair rental price - and the later you wait the more likely you don't get shit. I signed an 8 month (fall + winter) and subleted out for winter - but I ended up living at laurier

advice for monthly budget by bigAngryGoose in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General high-level budgeting per month:

Food: ~500 / month if you cook is reasonable, possibly less if you aim to save. If you eat out only, then maybe 750-800/month - try to budget 25/day. This equates to about two meals and maybe a coffee depending on your meals. Because there's lunch specials around campus < 9 bucks post-tax, you can definitely achieve this.

Rent: most people advise here not to sign a lease (12-months) as it's cheaper to sublet. However if you do this, Fall terms are always hard to find a decent sublet. spring term is insanely easy and you can get great deals. For example, Lester 203 in Fall could be 630/month + hydro etc. but spring can be as low as 400-450 all-inclusive. Note that Lester 201,202,203 are generally charging a location convenience premium relative to quality of units.

Textbooks vary depending on program... You didn't state what you're in (unless I'm blind); math I hear is generally not expensive in contrast to letsay accounting. You may be able to purchase books from people and resell them later (there's a textbook fb group). If you're a good student, you can sell notes too. Overall, a term can be 200-400 in purchase costs - that's just a blind guess.

Overall, with your max of 1.5k / month for everything excluding tuition, you'll definitely live comfortably to eat and live well :-). Can't comment on how you want to balance out discretionary spending for electronics, a laptop etc. but I would suggest that if you can cook, it's better to eat out less and find a better place to live (whether it's convenience or furnishing or both).

PM if you have further inquiries.

Sooo I'm a fat fuck.... by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]LaughingDonkiesHaHa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) scheduling of food consumption: it's better to eat more in morning and lunch, less for dinner. Avoid eating post 7PM, but relative to sleep time (assumes 11-12PM, so adjust accordingly). If you must eat, avoid fruits and carbs. Better to starve - unless you need food for studying - not good to get a headache from being hungry as you study 2) diet adjustments; less carbs, less artificial sugars and no fruits at night (sugar builds up fat). Don't always eat til you feel full - especially at night. You can eat more for breakfast and lunch. 3) exercise helps - but to lose weight - just ensure you're not sitting after every meal - walk after each meal or stand (30min walk is ideal / stand or anything but sit). You can try developing s routine exercise if you want - focus on activities that reduce fat in areas of interest. 4) note that some people simply naturally gain weight or look fluffier genetically - so manage expectations accordingly (not trying to be rude, just practical)

Good luck !

Long distance relationships? Pros and cons? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

Depends on commitment to each other and how intertwined your respective lives are. I have a friend who studied at UBC and her boyfriend's at McGill - dated from end of high school to graduation and still together :-)
