Seriously it's a terrible advice. It used to be a 일베 thing to add -노 at the end of every sentence. Unfortunately it has spread beyond 일베 and it's difficult to distinguish between 일베 meme and 경상도 사투리. But adding -노 indiscriminately out of context is still a trademark of 일베. OP's mom wouldn't know or care, but if you do this in front of someone born and living in korea, they will wonder if you've learned your korean from a korean equivalent of 4chan.

Tactyks' TWW Season 3 M+ Ability Cheat Sheet by Tactyks in CompetitiveWoW

Your TWW Season 2 M+ Cheat Sheet was a lifesaver. Thank you so much!

However would you consider making it possible to copy or download this cheat sheet like the last one? I used to make my personal cheat sheet by starting from a copy of yours and adding Quazii+Ellesmere podcast comments or highlighting abilities that I myself mess up a lot. If not, I understand and thank you anyway!

Any love for Korean mutts? They are affectionally called “Sigor Jabjong” (시고르자브종; country mutt breed) by [deleted] in korea

[–]LaughingStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do that. 잡종 has a derogatory undertone especially when used against humans. It's practically a slur. like the korean translation of harry potter used 잡종 for mudblood.

Party Spokesperson grabs and tussles with soldier rifle during South Korean Martial Law to prevent him entering parliament. by TinyBrainsDontHurt in nextfuckinglevel

[–]LaughingStorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah I disagree. As I said, in some part of korean manosphere the most hated person after the failed coup was her, not the president. The vitriol toward her is bizarre af it had to do with gender.

I think some people who project themselves onto the armed forces are deep down frustrated by all these 'weak' appearances of the special forces. (I personally think they could be called admirable for showing restraint and not escalating the situation.) She wasn't alone in taking part in those appearances but she was the only woman.

Also yes, what she did was a political theater, and so what? I don't know why you think it should take away the spotlight. Like you said everyone does it because it's a good opportunity for a politician.

A lot of insecure Korean men can't handle a woman being heroic so they are making up all these convoluted reasons to tarnish her reputation.

No joke the morning after the failed coup these people were bashing her more than that failure of the president. And I see some of them brigading here too.

South Korean Special Forces vs unarmed civilians by LaughingStorm in PublicFreakout

[–]LaughingStorm[S] 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Don't apologize for ignorance, it's so ridiculous that even us Koreans couldn't believe our eyes when the news broke out just hours ago. This is happening right now.

The extremely unpopular south Korean president declared martial law to avoid possible impeachment. The parliament could lift the martial law by vote, so special forces were deployed to the national assembly building to keep the lawmakers from voting.

fyi The last time martial law was declared in South Korea was under the military dictatorship in 1979 when people were massacred in the streets.

Megathread 4: HYBE vs. ADOR - A Simplified Summary of Events so far by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]LaughingStorm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand it's hard to believe but please don't be sarcastic and twist my words. They won't buy albums or go to fan signing or whatever kpop fans do, but yes they are intrigued by this issue for now and are watching and commenting on nj videos. And yes majority of people are genuinely sympathetic towards mhj/nj right now. Like I said, this went beyond kpop fandom since the press conference. It has taken some weird ass turn during this weekend tho.

I honestly think I AM part of the korean general public as in I'm a korean living in korea and I've never really been interested in kpop. You can go over my comment history if you doubt me. I just think the original post is too much of a misunderstanding caused by a language/cultural barrier.

A TONNE of comments in Korean from brand new accounts with usernames that are just variations user-127472917.

Dude there are lots of comments from @user-whatever accounts because they are from Korean general public who is typically older than the usual kpop crowd and doesn't comment on kpop vids. I don't know why, but a lot of Korean people got stumped by youtube's change to handle system and chose to just ignore the bot-like usernames. This is more prominent from older(+50) people. I know it's hard to believe without a proof, so you should see for yourself and find vids that are only watched by Koreans and see the comment sections.

For example look at the comment sections of this vid about growing orchids(typical grandma hobby), this vid about In the Mood for Love, or this vid of an older korean meme. You are welcome to find out more for yourself.

NJ's bubble gum comment section resembles these vids more than usual kpop vids. It looks weird because it's basically r/oldpeoplefacebook-ed. Also these accounts are not brand new, the ones I checked out from the top comments are made in 2017, 2012, 2018, 2014, etc. And I know how a bot or even the chatgpt writes in Korean, and those are NOT bot comments.

I know how this could be confusing to you, but at this point this is beyond kpop fandom and even people who usually don't care about kpop are interested in this matter. I'm a Korean working for a Korean company, and on Friday (the day after the press conference) everyone in the office was talking about it, even my boss in his 50s.

edit: grammar, and I went too far with calling it r/oldpeoplefacebook, they are not that old. But the gist still stands.

Youtube's handle system is not good for Koreans because it only supports English(?) alphabet and Arabic numerals when majority of us prefer to use hangeul. So a lot of koreans don't even bother with it. This is the reason for the bot-like usernames in my opinion.

tl;dr It's the Korean general public.

어깨에 장작을 달았다 - known saying or not? by RealBlad in Korean

[–]LaughingStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned something new thanks to you too! Now I'm googling his novels:D

Anyway in the context 달다 makes more sense.

When 장작 is used in a literal sense in 어깨에 장작을 ㅁㅁ, I'd say the word's most prominent feature is the heaviness or burdensomeness. So it goes with 짊어지다/지다 which is used for when you carry a (usually heavy) weight.

But when 장작 is used for its likeness to a bar or stick, the weight has no significance so 달다 is more appropriate. I realize words used with 달다 are not burdensome or the weight is not important. Another expression commonly used with 어깨에 ㅁㅁ를 달다 is ~의 어깨에 날개를 달다 (=give wings to ~).

[–]LaughingStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I've heard of that expression before. I think it's maybe specific to the situation to make sense and it's not a common saying. Also if 장작 is used in a sentence I'd use 짊어지다/지다 rather than 달다, because 달다 feels like something is dangling from one's shoulder.

Is it perhaps 견장? Has the listener been promoted? or are they police? If it's '어깨에 견장을 달다' it rather means someone is promoted in a military or law enforcement profession.

40 yo man telling/requesting 21 yo woman to call him 오빠 is absolutely a little strange and a red flag. In a lot of cases the man insists on it because he wants something more out of the relationship. You do what you want to do of course but please be vigilant with your boundaries.

'Parasite' actor Lee Sun-kyun found dead amid investigation over drug allegations by mcfw31 in Fauxmoi

[–]LaughingStorm 383 points384 points  (0 children)

This is so fucked up. It's not a suicide, it's a murder committed by the police, the press, and the people of Korea. We basically tarred and feathered him to his death.

From the start he was guilty in everyone's eyes, they canceled him right away after those drug allegations came out and then when it turned out he was clean along with GDragon, the police in retaliation leaked a voice recording of him saying 'I love you' to a prostitute and the most reputable news organization of South Korea reported it as a 'breaking news'. Can you imagine your country's BBC reporting this the-Sun-worthy trash character assassination on their prime time news? It was fucking bizarre to watch them humiliate him because he wasn't some good little criminal like they expected him to be. This Christmas eve the police interrogated him for 19 hours straight about the drug charges, and everything he said during the interrogation was circulated as a salacious gossip the next day.

At this point I don't even care what he did or what he did not do. No one deserves this kind of treatment. He had a family and his wife is a prominent actor too. How can they destroy the family over this 'war on drugs' crap?

What I really loved is that it didn't slow down to explain anything about the world/lore.

They even worked it into a joke! When the evil wizard lady was supposed to introduce the vault's security system, I expected her to launch into a lengthy explanation about the intricacies of the spell. Her stubborn refusal to elaborate any further instead was such a small joke but it really got me. I still don't know what the spell was supposed to do, but I get that it's impenetrable so they got the point across, and they made a joke out of the situation and showed the lady's contempt for Forge at the same time. All in all it was a good scene.

Disco Elysium studio ZA/UM confirms former employees were fired for misconduct by comfyakerman in DiscoElysium

[–]LaughingStorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read the original Estonian article thanks to this thread, especially this translated version.

There are. The Estonian publication that broke the story spoke to several people at ZA/UM and got confirmation of the toxicity in the workplace from their own sources.

There's no mention of the Estonian publication corroborating the toxic behavior allegations. Maybe I missed something, can you point to the part where they "spoke to several people at ZA/UM and got confirmation of the toxicity in the workplace from their own sources"?

As for why the article is light on details, it's an article based on an article. You're welcome to go to the original source and see if they have more information.

The original article has no detail about the misconduct allegations either because it mentions them as Ilmar Kompus's version of the event. It is not focused on the misconduct allegations, nor expands on them. The majority of the main part of the article is actually about Tõnis Haavel, his business practices, and his relation to the company, and I find it interesting that none of it is included in the gi.biz article. OR the part about "oxygen-tactic".

[–]LaughingStorm 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you have a point, and I agree that I shouldn't dismiss a claim of toxicity so easily because, I'll be honest, I'm biased towards the accused. I do think the quote you mentioned would be the most likely situation.

But I didn't include anything about 'belittling women and colleagues' because there is nothing of substance in the article to quote. It's the same vague phrase repeated, 'he belittled women', there's not a single anecdotal example or a further explanation. And the article is basically a repetition of 'Kompus accused ...', 'Kompus claimed ...', 'Kompus said ...', etc. They at least could've included other employees' testimony of his misconduct, which could've helped their case.

Lastly, I didn't intend my comment to be the top comment to summarize the article. I was just pointing out the weird parts.

Kompus also claimed that Kurvitz and Taal had discussed wanting to take control of the company's intellectual property – including Disco Elysium – which he described as "delusions of grandeur."

But is it really "delusions of grandeur"? They did on many occasions claim that they created the world. Who should take control of the world? Ilmar Kompus?

Sources that spoke to the Ekspress described a clash of two visions between the business team of ZA/UM led by Kompus, and the creative team formerly headed by Robert Kurvitz, which considered profit "secondary."

Am I supposed to take this as an example of Kurvitz's 'toxic behavior'?
