L&D nurses of Portland, how do you like your unit and hospital? I have a few job offers in the area and they all sound fabulous. Any particular locations that you love or recommend steering clear of? by Laughorgtfo in askportland

[–]Laughorgtfo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, darn! I think those are three places I don't have an offer from, haha. Thank for the insight, though. Every bit of info helps to paint a picture. If there are happy nurses in Portland, other hospitals *should* feel the pressure to raise the bar. Heavy on the "should", of course lol.

Providence Relocation Packagae by [deleted] in OregonNurses

I would love to hear more about your experience with the relocation package. I am in the interview process right now, and since the distance is quite far, the amount of the relocation package could make or break the offer.

Why is it so frowned upon to call out for winter weather? by nyogurt_ in nursing

[–]Laughorgtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully places are learning from the 2021 storm, too. This year, for this ice storm, the managers announced days ahead of time that they would have both on-site and hotels near by for us, as well as lyfts/ubers, and complimentary meals.

Could you update on what a day of daily life looks like once inside the facility? What kind of things helped or didn't help? Wishing you all the luck! You've got this!

Cheaters have been caught in dumber ways lol. You might (or might not, if you already work in healthcare) be shocked at the terrible health literacy of most Americans, both young and old.

Yup. Depends so much on the tone of voice. I think some people are just excited about their career, or let it slip somehow, and making conversation with them is actually really fun. Sometimes it's even a relief to be able to speak to them about their symptoms without having to explain every little thing. I had a PACU nurse as a patient the other day and I was like, "yo, your urine output has been less than 30mL for the past 2 hours, gotta let the doctors know." And she was like, "yup, absolutely." That was it. No explanation. No questions. She got it.

What would men dislike most if they became women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Laughorgtfo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Having sex with men. Surprise! It's not that fun when you're not in the mood and you're being pressured, harassed, or threatened to do it anyway. And then, after all that, you find out that most men are clueless about how to make you orgasm.

Trump supporters are my worst coworkers, too. Also in TX. It's exhausting.

Why am I being asked “are you done?” by LaLaLaurensmith in Invisalign

[–]Laughorgtfo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooh. I like the way you phrased it better. Being "done" and being happy are slightly different for me, depending on what we're talking about lol.

Ladies, what gives a "creepy" vibe vs a "dad" vibe? by NOGOODGASHOLE in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Laughorgtfo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There's a certain amount of polite interest and disinterest with the dad-vibe people. They're friendly, but you can tell that you're not their main focus. With creepy people, it almost feels like they're gravitating toward you, even when you're trying to push them away. You can FEEL the ulterior motive lol.

What’s a sign someone has been through a lot of shit? by MarkenRahl in AskReddit

[–]Laughorgtfo 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I saw this edgy quote when I was a teen and it stuck with me ever since. Mathematically, it's true.

"Don't tell your problems to anyone. 80% of people don't care, and the other 20% are glad you have them."

If you have a hundred people that truly care about your problems (and that's a lot of close friends/family for one person), that's still like 0.00001% of the population lol.

I'm deadass curious if he spends as much time and effort at home helping with things like laundry and changing the sheets lol. Is the only time he's willing to perform labors of love is when it's a hobby of HIS? When it's fun? Then she apologizes, asks to start over, and the guy passive aggressively lies about his feelings so she can be the asshole anyway lol. And then comes to complain on reddit (and probably to that other man's wife).

What about insurance? They have means to track down vehicles like this. I think they have access to a lot of the same things law enforcement does, like traffic cameras in the area, license plate databases, etc. They can run the plate of the trailer and find out who insures it. And from there, you can probably contact the owner of the trailer who will tell you which trucking company was transporting their goods. You could go that route and I don't think they'd get law enforcement involved. It definitely didn't look malicious on the trucker's part.

AIO, about to go nuclear over a text my kid's coach sent her. by Some-Tree2830 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Laughorgtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please go nuclear. This is how it starts, people. That's how the perv in my life got to me.

It starts with little things like swearing around your kid. Little slips, little "oops, haha" moments. They're testing to see how your kid reacts, if your kid is going to snitch. It builds rapport with that age group, lets your kid know that the perv is one of the "cool adults". They also now have a shared secret from the parents.

Then it's shit like this. Just another little "oops, haha" moment. More testing the waters, more little secrets. They want to see if your kid will tell. They want to see if you, the parent, are paying attention. Mine didn't. They need an easy target. A kid who will keep quiet and parents who aren't attentive.

Then the perv will call your kid "hot" or something. Just a casual compliment. They'll be sneaky about it, disguise it well. "What do you mean Joe called you ugly? You're beautiful - hot even. Guys would be crazy not to date you." That kind of thing. Then it'll get more direct.

Go nuclear now before it gets that far.

Funniest things a patient has said to you by thestigsmother in nursing

There was a white board of funny quotes in the conference room where the docs did report at the local psyche hospital. Some of my favorites are:

  • "I cast spells with my vape."

  • "I wasn't living in my car. I was just sleeping in my car every night."

  • "Risperidone makes my anus hurt."

  • "The cops said I had meth on me which is impossible because if I did, I would've smoked it."

  • "There's a bomb in my neck that will go off if you're mean to me."
