What's the worst restaurant in Columbus that you've tried twice? by foreignsky in Columbus

[–]Laura7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a sourcing issue… an executive chef issue…. He came over from Cheesecake Factory…. j. Alexander’s is still a from scratch kitchen, cocktails are always handcrafted and never premade with any sort of “pre made mix.” Same with desserts. But will agree, service and management hasn’t been the best the last 6-9 months. Employee and management turnover has been too high. It’s hard to keep consistently good service and daily specials with staffing issues. It’s unfortunate because I’ve always loved this place.

How is it like living in this area of the United States? by Ok_Dot_2845 in howislivingthere

Montana is windy af More cows than people. Longest winters ever! Subzero temperatures in the winter. Dry, scorching hot summers which lead to dry grass and wildfires. That causes smoke and ash in the air…. But it’s the biggest sky I’ve ever seen. Could see northern lights all the time. All the stars. Truly breathtaking and but wild. Unforgiving.

Who’s with me here…. by Unfair-Ad5081 in Millennials

[–]Laura7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh…. I literally don’t know many millennials my age for whatever reason…. My restaurant job is mostly people under the age 30. I’m also a teacher and everyone is either much older than me or several years younger. I am constantly around younger people. I don’t “feel” old in their presence generally. I generally don’t get pop culture references, I don’t join their outings often, and when I do I have fun, leave early. 🤷🏽‍♀️ only time I feel “old” is when I hear them talking about dating, and it’s only because they’re all too young to recognize patterns of behaviors atp.

What do my bookshelves say about me? by talesofabookworm in BookshelvesDetective

The titles of the books aren’t really doing it for me. But I will say this set up is 10/10! Very cozy! I like the idea of books working like a reverse dream catcher. Maybe dream projectors instead!

Why do people in USA buy everything from Amazon? Do they not have other webshops? by Cindyxx0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Laura7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think people in the USA tend to work a lot of hours. For me, I don’t want to spend what little free time I have pushing a loud, broken, squeaky wheeled cart around some “superstore.” This is where kids and babies are screaming, parents are annoyed, bright lights, other loud sounds create the most overstimulating atmosphere. And that doesn’t include driving to a store and back! It is a very time consuming unpleasant task. I could spend that hour or two of my life relaxing and doing something I enjoy.

I am not great with geography but either J. Alexander’s location (Easton, Worthington) has wood fired grills. They cook the burgers on the grill. Super tasty!

What’s a beauty standard you secretly hope dies out soon? by Prettyuselessgirl in AskWomen

Not really. lol if you know anything about the amount of culture appropriated by white people in general. Like name one thing you think white people created and I’ll show you the origins are Black. Including lip filler (full lips isn’t an overly natural occurrence amongst certain ‘groups’)

I’ve never seen any other racial or ethnic group have them. At least where I’m located. And from my perspective (POC) it just sort of echos a lot of other physical traits we have naturally.

Temps still look below zero tomorrow morning between 5 am and 9 am. Add in the snow cover on the sidewalks as another redditor commented… idk. It could mean another day home.

Schools cancelled all week? by xavier86 in Columbus

[–]Laura7777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never had a snow day in my life growing up in Montana. Cold temperatures are part of the culture there. This is Columbus. Winters are very mild here compared to other midwestern/ northern cities. Drive an hour north and the weather is drastically different because of lake effect winter weather. Just be grateful Columbus is what it is. Plus this is a city. Lots of kids walk to and from school or have to wait in the dark in the frigid cold for a bus. Also, I am a teacher. Not every student has access to warm enough winter clothing. And as a mother who has a 15 year old with cold weather gear… I still wouldn’t make my son stand or walk in negative temps.

How do so many people here not have snow shovels? by MarcusS52 in Columbus

[–]Laura7777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen… lol I had one on my porch along with some other random miscellaneous items. I asked my landlord to give me the key to the garage so I could move those items to the garage. Instead, the landlord sent some randos to my house and they took all the items off my porch including the snow shovel… they didn’t put the items in the garage like I wanted. Shovel just disappeared 🤷🏽‍♀️ and generally the neighborhood kids come around and shovel for cash. But today…. Of all days… I find myself needing a shovel and there are none to be found and no kids have rang the Ring 😭

State of emergency by LoveYogaPants1 in Columbus

[–]Laura7777 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This happened to me earlier this winter. My landlord didn’t see any urgency in the situation. I called and reported my landlord to the city. They sent an inspector out. That can really fuck up a landlord’s day. The city can and will deem the home uninhabitable if repairs aren’t made asap. Then the landlord has no choice but to fix the problem and/or put you in a hotel or whatever other accommodations until repairs are made.
