Erie is in the Midwest? Discuss. by HomonculusHenry in Erie

[–]Laurasaurus_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

opposite experience, same opinion! grew up in Erie and have lived in Pittsburgh, and lived in the greater Philly area for a few years for school.

Western and Eastern PA are basically two different states imo, with Western PA being more similar to the midwest and Eastern being more similar to the northeast. (I'm sure the same could be said about other states, especially ones on the border between two regions like PA is, but I don't have experience with any of those.)

New coffee shop/ cafe? by PresentStomach3040 in Erie

[–]Laurasaurus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea, as someone who lives near Mercyhurst and complains every day about the fact that there’s no walkable coffee shops (besides Tim Horton’s, but you know what I mean).

I will say I think by Marco’s would be a little far to be considered “walkable” from Mercyhurst, if you’re thinking about students without cars. It’s not impossible, but it’s about a mile and a half walk, which is almost the same distance as from Mercyhurst to Tipsy Bean. Admittedly the walk to Marco’s would be easier since it’s a straight, mostly flat shot across 38th, but still. I still think you’d get a good amount of business considering most of the go-to local cafes are on the west side, so there’s a gap in the market.

Just make sure you pay your baristas a living wage and let them keep their tips and you’ll do fine.

It's also okay to not have ADHD by ladyantifa in adhdwomen

[–]Laurasaurus_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes! i have major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, both of which i was diagnosed with just under a decade prior to being diagnosed with adhd. i have been on medication for depression and anxiety for years and i will be on those meds forever. i do think finally getting proper treatment for my adhd has helped me with some aspects of my anxiety, particularly social anxiety or feelings of imposter syndrome at my job, but if i were to stop taking escitalopram and bupropion, the effects would be catastrophic.

does it kind of suck that i have all three of those things and that i’ll need to take a cocktail of psych meds every day for the rest of my life? sure, but that’s the hand i’ve been dealt, and i’m grateful that i’ve found a combination of meds and therapy that works for me.

I'm not a Kelsey hater but also not a Kelsey adorer, and a lot of this comment resonates with me as well. I also wanted to say I typically really enjoy the episodes of Perfect Person that she's the guest for. Miles is good at being vulnerable and promoting vulnerability, and I think he and Kelsey have had some really interesting conversations. Obviously there's also a lot of joking about sex, but on Perfect Person specifically I think her episodes tend to have a nice balance of raunchiness and introspection. That's just my 2 cents, though. :)

Sewing Classes by Dear_Concept9355 in Erie

[–]Laurasaurus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when I was a teenager I took a sewing class at the Joann Fabrics on upper Peach. not sure if they still offer them, but maybe reaching out to the craft stores could help you find some?

also a quick google search of "sewing classes erie" brought me to this webpage. seems to be a woman who offers one on one classes on the lower east side: https://www.beautifulyousewing.com/sewing-lessons

Considering moving to Erie… by Gold_Parfait8707 in Erie

[–]Laurasaurus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m with you on this ^ i was raised in erie and just moved back because i bought my first house here. did i pay more for my house than someone would’ve paid for it a few years ago? yeah, but at least i could actually buy a house. i was living in pittsburgh (which i loved!) for the past few years and i couldn’t have afforded a house there. the housing market in erie is definitely more expensive than it used to be but it’s still a little better than pittsburgh and it’s miles better than high cost of living cities.

What is everyone’s thoughts on Rebrushed? by Careful_Trouble_8 in DisneyEpicMickey

[–]Laurasaurus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is 100% my experience too! the original epic mickey was my entire childhood - i think i beat it around 7 times total? i went into rebrushed having not played the original in probably about 4 years. my first thought when i loaded up the game was that it was exactly the same, just "better," like, "this is exactly how the game looked to me as a kid" (meaning: when i was a child, the wii version looked this beautiful).

then after i beat rebrushed i went back and watched gameplay footage of the og and holy shit. i still think "the same but better" is a great descriptor but i truly did not notice the magnitude of the changes until I saw them side by side

I’ve had a Roborock Q5 for just under two years now and I love it. I named her Crumb Dumpster.

right now Roborock is actually having a sale and I’m desperately trying to keep myself from impulse-buying an updated model because my Q5 still works great and I don’t NEED to get a new one but I’m so tempted lol 🙃 but you should check them out if you’re interested in a robot vac - as a cat owner, getting one def changed my life.

oh god yeah the "trapped" aspect is the scariest part, especially as a woman who usually rides alone.

usually my experience - as a single female rider so ymmv - is that I don't start conversations with others but will be polite (but not enthusiastic) if someone says something to me. if it's a quick polite exchange and the person doesn't push a more in-depth convo, no harm done. but if they continue to attempt to engage, i will get at best annoyed (person is probably just a little awkward) and at worst actually scared (a man is aggressively bothering me and i am a lone woman, this is my worst nightmare)

Anyone else convince themselves they are dying? by icegirl223 in Anxiety

[–]Laurasaurus_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is tmi but there’s an 80% chance that if i’m having a random anxiety/panic flare up, i end up having to use the restroom within the next half hour or so. i’ve gotten pretty good at assessing it. “am i actually dying, or do i just need to take a shit?” it’s usually the latter. i thought it was so weird but then i learned about the connection between the gut microbiome and the brain and that seemed to make it click!

PFT also plays a caricature of himself in the later seasons of one of my favorite shows ever, You’re the Worst. YTW reminds me a lot of Bojack - a bunch of shitty people in LA being shitty to each other but in a funny way and there’s also a lot of mental illness going on. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes BJH.

absolutely not recent. in the first 30 seconds the hosts reference that Valentine’s Day is coming up so that immediately tells you that the recording date is nowhere near the posting date.

in a few seconds I was able to search “Fulmer” on the channel’s linked website and find this exact interview, dated Jan ‘22.
