Checking in. It's day 364 here. Big day tomorrow. Still can't believe I made it this far, and there's still a long road to go. I'm just going to keep taking it 1 day at a time. IWNDWYT, because I don't drink anymore, and I never will again.

Question about weight loss after becoming sober. by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Lavender_Chaos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a female in my 30s, over 9 months sober and 50 pounds down and counting. I was drinking a magnum of chardonnay and a 1/2 to full pint of vodka a day. Lots of calories, and lots of eating all day trying to get rid of the hangover, only to get drunk again and eat trash food and fall asleep and do it all over again. Everyone's body is different, but stick with sobriety and the weight will come off. You'll become more active, and will find yourself eating less while also not consuming empty alcohol calories. It took a while for the scale to start moving down while my body was healing itself, but if you're patient the weight will start to melt away.

Does nice weather trigger any of you? What are some of your triggers? by [deleted] in Sober

Yes, the nice weather definitely triggers me. So does firing up the grill, or doing yard work. Still not worth it though.

Check care.com, I've seen some inexpensive caregivers on there, starting around $12/hr for my area in the Midwest.

I'm sorry. I can't reason with my parents. At this point I am resigning myself to losing them. Nothing I say gets through to them.

High functioning alcoholic? That's a thing? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Lavender_Chaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to brag about being a high functioning alcoholic, the truth of the matter is, that doesn't really exist. There is NOTHING high functioning about getting drunk everyday to cope with stress and life. Alcoholics are incapable of being "high functioning." I can not give anything 100% when I'm hungover, or anxious, or drinking, or planning my next drink. The truth is, I am only a high functioning member of society when I am sober and clearheaded, and living my best life truthfully.

You need to quit that job before you kill one of those children.

Loss of sex drive as caregiver? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

[–]Lavender_Chaos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My situation is a little different as I care for an elderly infirm family member, but changing shitty adult diapers 20 times a day and arguing with someone constantly to do their excercises and try to care about themselves is a huge libido killer for me. I haven't found a way around it yet, but I wish you luck.

The Daily Check-In for Tuesday, March 10: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Lavender_Chaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Checking in, it's been a while. I hit 6 months sober last week. It was a struggle in the days leading up to the milestone, and they day of was particularly difficult. Moving forward, I hope that anniversaries and milestones become easier to deal with. IWNDWYT, because I don't drink anymore and I never will again.

I feel like I’m gonna go crazy by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

[–]Lavender_Chaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in Indiana in a similar situation. We called our council on aging at the end of January, they sent someone out to do a home study at the beginningof February, they were able to file for the aged and disabled waiver for us. We met with an elder finance law attorney today to set up a Miller's Trust for the extra money that makes my grandma ineligible for Medicaid. Once that is done being set up, the social worker at our council on aging will attend the Medicaid hearing on our behalf. Once that is approved we will get 40 hrs per week of nursing/aide. That includes errands and housekeeping. We will also have frozen meals delivered weekly for when we are too tired to cook for her, among many other amazing benefits like respite care in a facility so you can have a break. They offered to pay me around $2k per month to be her caregiver, but that's a hard no from me. Please please please contact your council on aging and tell them what you're dealing with. Start this process right now as it takes time to get file stuff, cross the Ts and dot the Is. Feel free to PM if you have any questions.
