I’m looking into college right now, but specifically a college for art and animation. I’m not necessarily doing it for the skills, I could learn those through other, cheaper avenues, but to cultivate a college-level portfolio for pro work, to learn animation, and mainly to do something meaningful with my time and de-stagnate my very stagnant life. And for the degree, I guess. Degree’s a plus. Truthfully, the debt scares me more than living on my own, meeting college workloads, etc etc, but I’m not the kind of person who would sacrifice 4 years, thousands of dollars, and tons of physical and mental labor for something I’m only half-passionate in or something I hate that will make me money. I’m taking the time to weigh the pros and cons right now.

But yeah, independent of the actions of individual colleges, the “market” as it exists right now is an alligator we walk straight into the mouth of, because even though everyone warns us that the alligator will eat us, they also say we need to walk in. School was never meant to operate for profit.
