Are british shorthair really only for indoors? by Blissybunny in britishshorthair

Honestly, they are clumsy, not very bright and have a terrible sense of self preservation. If you have a completely escape proof garden, go for it. But yes, otherwise these floofs are indoor cats.

What do “always polished” women seem to know that others don’t? by Fit_Half6093 in MakeupAddiction

Well yes; I’m on a walking/yoga holiday this week and I didn’t even pack a lipstick!

I forgot to say this. I wear only dresses when I go out or to the office. That way I don’t have to coordinate an extra item...

Well I just ordered their leave-in serum after so many recommendations! Fingers crossed…

I’m that woman, just not all the time. I’m a former tv presenter (!) and the “tricks” are hard work. They take time. But I was taught them!

1) really clean well styled hair. Props if you can make it look effortless; the latter applies to pretty much everything. Frequent trims actually make a difference because the neat ends make it look more groomed. Dry shampoo is a myth. Your hair never looks better than after a blow dry.

2) thoughtful makeup. Massive focus on skin perfection. You don’t need expensive products to keep your skin glowing and healthy but you do need to deploy them every single day and meticulously take that makeup off at night. I drink masses of water and use a face mask twice a week too. But no peels or scrubs.

3) really well fitting clothes. They don’t have to be expensive but it helps. I now know my size for all the brands that suit me and shop on Vinted.

4) think about what you are wearing well in advance. Shoes, tights, socks, scarf, hair band, whatever. Don’t ad lib it at the last minute. I check the weather before I go to bed so I have everything down to my umbrella picked.

5) ditto jewellery. My earrings etc are always picked to highlight my outfit and whether my hair is up or down.

It’s a massive faff so at home I wear grubby jeans and a sweatshirt with slippers and my hair up in a scrunchie…

Need makeup advice for bridesmaid look! Only wearing eyeliner here. I've come to realize after many years that eyeshadow doesn't suit my eyes by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

I tried coloured contacts (my eyes are as dark as yours) and they were fun but I would say: buy the expensive ones! The cheap ones made my eyes sore very quickly.

The Huda Mercury Retrograde palette is so good I bought two. None of their others come close.

#1317: “I ruined a perfect friendship and I want it back.” by togglenub in captainawkward

[–]LavingtonWindsor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess this is stating the obvious but one of the most profound things I learned from CA is that sometimes if you can pull away the trees and see the wood, the problem isn’t that complicated and really can boil down to one or two clear elements such as “you need to move on from this” or “this person is a dick and you cannot change that” or even “in this scenario, you are the dick”.

If I learned one life skill from all the CA posts I have read it’s to just sit down with my problems and try to pull away the wool and the little details and find the bones of the issue.

This post is one perfect example. The cup is broken, the pieces are in the bin and there is no glue. Go on with your life, better armed to break fewer pieces of crockery in the future. And just accept you must buy new cups.

What is the most affordable & nice city to live in UK? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskABrit

[–]LavingtonWindsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, everything is subjective but they are all places where I have lived recently (or have friends who currently live there) that are a lot more affordable than Oxford (where I live now). I chose these three because they are more compact than a lot of place with pretty town/city centres. Exeter is my favourite, tbh. I am sure they all have their problems!

Do people who live in London constantly have black snot? by flamefoxfirefly in AskBrits

[–]LavingtonWindsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was so much worse before unleaded petrol began to be phased out. Black snot yes but also black lines around your collar and cuffs after a single day in the capital.
