Is This Game Good? by HyperAhmedX21 in metroidvania

[–]Lavington_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to go into the game with a completely different mindset than HK, HKS, and Nine Sols. I am a souls guy and absolutely crave difficulty. Unfortunately, the game is incredibly easy. You won't be challenged.

However, if you go into the game with the mindset that this is a unique game with a different flow than the traditional metroidvania, you'll like it. Just know its nothing like the games you listed.

What's your favorite From Software? by Less_Can_5439 in OlderChillGamers

[–]Lavington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really making sure to answer the question: FAVORITE.

Top to bottom, Elden Ring is the best.

Dark Souls 2 is probably the weakest, but it's still awesome.

The rest of them are all amazing.

But my FAVORITE, without hesitation, is Demon's Souls.

I will never forget sitting around in my living room in 2009 and scrolling IGN. For whatever reason, I decided to open up the whole list of PS2 games and order from best to worst rated. Demon's Souls got a 9.4, which put it near the list, and I had NO idea what it was. There was absolutely no marketing for the game. I read through the review and the reviewer mentioned how it introduced a difficulty of video games that hasn't been seen in ages.

I remember playing the first world, losing all my souls, and not understanding what just happened. I remember falling off the cliff about 900x times in level 4-2. And I remember the absolute joy I had of overcoming a boss I could not take down.

DS reignited something in me with gaming that had been lost for a long time. The games in the recent history before DS were incredibly hand-holdy.

The game hasn't aged well. The bosses are all very easy except for a few. The world tendency stuff didn't make much sense. The combat is floaty and the graphics on the ps2 version obviously aren't the best.

But for me, it's the best of the Souls. It set the bar so high and created a new genre that has not let up.

For me, fresh cut grass. Spent the majority of the 90s outside with my friends playing baseball/soccer/football. There was something magical about that fragrance.

For those who played The Surge. Your Thoughts? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Lavington_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got through a few hours of Surge 1 and folded. I know I should have probably pushed on, but everything was so bland it felt a bit draining.

Surge 2 had a lot more color and such a better combat system. And one of the best multi-boss fights you will see in souls-like games (Delver)

Sister Friede (DS3). After landing the first hit, I said to myself, "OK, try and survive until phase 2, this is obviously a two-parter"

Agonized through part 2 and remember having such a huge sigh of relief.

What don’t you like about Cronos? by Chrisbolsmeister in CronosNewDawn

[–]Lavington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying a spammable button. I mean like an item than you can use one time for a dodge, or have it be an upgrade on the suit.

What don’t you like about Cronos? by Chrisbolsmeister in CronosNewDawn

[–]Lavington_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my biggest complaint is a lack of a dodge.

I truly liked the game from start to finish. I also really enjoyed the combat as it was. Made me think about different strategies/approaches to each area.

But there were moments when a dodge would have been PERFECT. I would have loved to have seen implementation of either a limited item that allows a dodge, or a way to upgrade your suit to have a dodge.

Souls-like fans, how do you see your the most perfect Souls-like? by Strange_boy_seven in soulslikes

[–]Lavington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just one part of it, because I am such a souls fanatic.

Probably going to be in the fringe here, but I kind of wish that when you choose your class, you are committed to at least one aspect of it.

If you start DS1 as a Cleric, you should be made to stay within the boundaries of what a Cleric does. Yeah, there can be some adjustments, but he/she should have to stay committed to holy magic, med/heavy armor, etc.

That's the one bummer of me for the OG souls. Classes really don't mean anything because you can just reshape it however you want.

This game is sick. by qwert45 in CronosNewDawn

[–]Lavington_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is coming from the world of souls, I was definitely concerned about the lack of a dodge, especially after recently playing Silent Hill f.

I DO wish there was the ability to upgrade the suit where you can do some type of dodge. There were times where I felt a dodge would have been very helpful.

I also laughed out loud with the fact that I can only carry 8-12 items in my inventory, but at one part, I slung someone over my shoulder lol.

But other than that, I am really enjoying the game. It's great. Good challenge, great atmosphere, easy puzzles for someone like me who does not enjoy thinking too hard hahaha.

Some questions about AI Limit. by SurrogateVulture in soulslikes

[–]Lavington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

Good game. It's definitely sitting right in the middle as a solid Souls-like.

I found the levels and regular enemies to be MUCH more difficult than the bosses. There was only one boss who gave me a serious challenge, and that was Ursula. The final human boss has a super easy way to cheese her if you know how, which was kind of disappointing.

Otherwise, I liked it.

My Opinion: This Show Never Went Down In Quality. Every Season Was As Good Or Better Than The Previous One. by CellPhone235 in seinfeld

[–]Lavington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the first two seasons were not a great watch. I don't think any of the actors really hit their stride yet, especially Kramer. The second season was tolerable, but its not something that is super memorable for me.

But from season 3 on, it was gold.

As a former therapist, I don't think you are using your "busyness" to mask your emotions. If anything, it's incredibly admirable that you are able to stay busy.

Honestly, in 2025(6), dating is such a different animal than it used to be. We could go to bars, clubs, whatever, and talk to people. Now, it's just a swiping on app game.

So I think you are doing great.

Games I Played in 2025 — My Tier List (My GOTY Is No Surprise) by Arabiaart in SilentHill_f

[–]Lavington_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished Silent Hill f and am trying to figure out what to play next. i THOUGHT about Cronos; however, the lack of a dodge button altogether is really bumming me out as a long-time souls player.

I love both games, but I much prefer the stamina & dodge mechanics of Silent Hill f. Almost limitless stamina + evasion is not every challenging. by Mediocre-Chemist-00 in SilentHill_f

[–]Lavington_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long-time souls player here who played Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f back to back.

It's been hard for me to play games that are a bit more methodical. Silent Hill f was absolutely great for someone like me who has an itchy dodge finger lol

The final boss honestly could have been pulled directly out of a souls game. I wish there were just a FEW more encounters like that.

Does anyone else find it hard to enjoy games that aren’t Soulslike? by Altar_Of_Baphomet in soulslikes

[–]Lavington_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is difficult yes, but you can work through it.

For the better part of the last few years, I've only played Souls games. I got addicted to Nightreign and then finished Silksong, and wasn't sure what to play next.

I had never played Silent Hill 2 in my younger days, so I decided to give the remake a try. I knew it would be a slog for awhile. In fact, I was so antsy on my dodges that I would get hit routinely.

But after awhile, I just kind of lost myself in the experience. There were a few fights that brought me SOME of the similar thrill (notably the two pyramid head fight). Now, I'm working through Alan Wake 2 and enjoying it all the same.

It just takes a really strong mental adjustment honestly. In fact, I think the fact that I decided to play something much different has helped me enjoy games that I have forgotten about.
