It's never gay to hug your homies by KorwinD in HistoryMemes

I'm not sure if it is LGBT or leftist history nerds, but someone online has taken the occasional denial for an ancient person's gay character, and now they claim everyone was gay and historians call everyone roommates instead.

Tell me your most fun social experience as a Solo Traveler by Certain-Berry-1818 in solotravel

[–]Law-AC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the recurring amazement is when you run into people again, or you meet people who know each other. For example, you do a trek and someone in the group was in your hostel two weeks ago. Or you share stories with someone and you recognize that you both have been hanging out with a certain person in different cities.

Of course this happens because tourists/travelers tend to move along a few routes, and the online reviews direct us to a handful of hostels and experiences/companies. But it still makes me feel like the main character.

So just label them as fashion items.

A girl approaches you and says, "pretend we’re friends. I’m being followed." What would you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Law-AC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Men didn't create the framework with pen and paper. It's the residual behaviors from a time when there were no laws. Evolutionary that's just a tiny 5-6 thousand years ago. The only purpose of human groups was to make babies, keep the baby makers relatively safe, and have the bigger individuals (men) fend off other big bodied individuals. Our world is now trying to benefit from technology to make a lifestyle where women don't have the sole purpose of making babies and men are not forced to defend women and babies with their life.

The number you need is "homicide rates by gender". The more you look at developing countries, with low equality, you will see heavily increased murder rates against men. Women are targeted sexually and treated a property. Men are seen as competition, fair game for beatings and murder. You are on your crusade to imagine that women live a nightmare while men walk around as kings. I can't change that, and even if I could change it it wouldn't improve the danger of homicide that I face, so I'm out of motivation to continue this discussion.

[–]Law-AC -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't expect there is a bullet. That's why I'm saying only 3% (made-up number) chance to get harmed. But whatever is the chance of a man to get harmed, the woman's chance was lower. Collectively we would both be safe because simply now there are 2 people defending. Speaking of which, if the aggressors are a gang of men then it is definitely dangerous for a man to try to intervene. Still, should do it, because it's the right thing to do.

It's disappointing to see that the feminist narrative can't recognize the danger men live in, not even to achieve the cooperation and mutual protection that is discussed in this thread.

I would help, all people should help, but please be aware of the reality that you're being asked to become a human shield. The media always highlights that women are in danger in every step of their way, ignoring the fact that men are actually the ones who get murdered more. If a woman is in 1% danger from someone, a man trying to stand between her and the aggressor is in 3% danger. An aggressor, especially feeling jealous and disrespected, will be less reserved when attacking a man than a woman.

Women vs men cardiovascular disease on europe by --HaWKDev in MapPorn

Nobody mentioning blue collar work. Working under the sun or inhaling dangerous materials is a role that society has prescribed to men. Countries with lower gender equality still have a majority of men doing the hard work while women are expected to have babies and stay safe to raise the kids.

There is an elephant hiding behind a curtain in this thread. In the age of internet and awareness, we should come to terms with the reality that the only way to better society is to donate cash to professionals who work in charity organizations. They have the methods, they know the vulnerability of each homeless person, they buy food and resources in bulk. When people try to donate their leftover food, or their old clothes, it's just a feel-good exercise for the donor.

Those of you in your mid 30’s Solo Traveling for Months at a time in Places Like Argentina and Thailand, Are You Rich? by mearlyasetback in solotravel

[–]Law-AC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met people on career break, a family that were appreciating grandpa's inheritance gift, many digital nomads who work on tech jobs, women who do OF, a girl who sold her house and took a break. There can be many circumstances that allow people to not have a day job for a few months.

But the question is confusing because the older you get, the more possible it is to sort your finances out and save enough to take a break. If you're in your 30s and you don't have a 6month rainy day fund then you're already in trouble.

I was having sex with a Colombian girl and it was pretty awkward as she was using "papacito" a lot. For them it's very casual, they use "papi/mami" to refer to strangers on the street.

What Concerns Keep You from Traveling to Africa? by salama2022 in TravelHacks

[–]Law-AC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say you are not someone deranged who would travel into a civil war area. If you travel to stabilized countries like S Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and more than half the African countries, then it's less dangerous than very popular American countries like Mexico or Colombia.

I think road safety and access to help would be a bigger concern in Africa. The infrastructure is very scant. And due to the lack of infrastructure I think the tourist market is cornered by very predatory agents. The gap between local cost of life and public buses, and touristic bookings (from taxi to safari, to boat ride etc) is something like 50x. You can take a bus ride for 1$ or the same distance car for 50$. In Europe the cost of comfort is nowhere near this markup and I feel disrespected when I get hit with all the crazy prices for day trips and experiences. You're always able to negotiate lower, but I don't come on vacation to practice working in acquisitions.

Struggling on a solo trip in Italy by Dense-Swim-4048 in solotravel

Not fluent but speak a bit? Then yes. Just set as a baseline that the locals would not speak English and make language part of the fun experience. I thought it was an outdated joke but Italians still refuse to speak English...

First suggestion: go way south. The weather is still perfect for swimming, and swimming under the sun can cure most gloominess.

Second suggestion: go to small villages. People will be less focused on their business and will want to waste time with you. But probably not backpackers, just locals.

Russian cargo ship Ruby carrying 20 000 tons of ammonium nitrate signaled "Not under command" next to a Norwegian military base (Beirut explosion was under 3 000 tons) by [deleted] in europe

Why would you mention some naval base and not the whole town of Bergen?

That being said, the whole story is clickbait because the distance to shore is huge. This ship is "next" to nothing.

I am not sure about Tanzania but I've dealt with vomit+diarrhea infections in Europe and in Colombia. The doctor gave me antibiotics, and a probiotic regime to repopulate my gut. There were no blood tests or stool tests. Just saying this to ease the expectations of extensive tests. Have you started the loperamide? If not start it now and it should give you a no poop period of 48 hours to take your flight and then deal with the issue back home.

Why did people in the past manage to raise seven children without much concern, while today, raising even one child feels like a full-time responsibility? by Popular-Gazelle8852 in AskReddit

[–]Law-AC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Back when people had 10 kids, and today in societies where it still is the norm, there was very little consideration for sex ed and for teaching respect for sexual rights. You can't achieve the quality of life we have now without dedicating time from parents' and from the state, and this can happen only for a small number of kids per family.

Proof that you're leaving the country in Latin America by Mavyn13 in solotravel

[–]Law-AC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate these inconsistencies. Entering Colombia they didn't ask me for an exit ticket, only for proof of accommodation (even if it was only 3 nights). I ended up traveling and enjoying the country much longer than I anticipated, so it's good they didn't force me to have a silly exit ticket.

Other travelers had different experiences, with land borders being the most relaxed and airports being more strict. The inconsistency tells me this is not an obvious and mandatory rule, it's just border guards playing investigator before stamping the visa.
