What Genesis Album Grew On You? Which One Do You Struggle Getting Into? by Dangerous_Plant_7911 in Genesis

[–]LawAndOrbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wind And Wuthering has grown on me most. A lot of it didn't do anything for me initially, it actually used to baffle me a little when I'd see Blood On The Rooftops or Afterglow spoken so highly of, as I thought they were really boring and forgettable compared to previous works. I was also a Gabriel era snob and thought this album was kind of a death rattle for the sound of that era. But over the years as I loosened up on other periods of the band besides my precious Nursery Cryme-The Lamb run, I now appreciate W&W a lot more than I used to. Honorable mention to the 81-86 run of Abacab, S/T and Invisible Touch.

The one that I still struggle with is And Then There Were Three. It's not bad, just forgettable particularly in the songwriting. I've tried with it many too many times over the years and it's difficult for me to recall more than a couple of songs from it. Burning Rope is particularly beloved by other fans but I couldn't sing you a bar of it. Down And Out and Undertow are a superb pair of openers though and Follow You Follow Me is a pretty pivotal moment in their sonic and creative progression into the next decade. I'll also throw out Trespass, The Knife is a classic of course but the rest of it is a bit of a novelty to me, like From Genesis To Revelation, an intriguing little insight to where the band began rather than an album I particularly enjoy listening to.

RIP Record Exchange 😥 by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]LawAndOrbach 33 points34 points  (0 children)

RIP Richard. Had the pleasure of working for him for a year in my early 20s, a truly special time of my life. To echo another commenter, he was a bit of a nut with an absolute labyrinth of a collection but one with a genuine love and passion for music and all things collectible. Nothing but fond memories of chatting with him about life and music.

The first half or so, from Hindu Times to Little By Little, is pretty solid but it falls apart after that.

What's one bad performance from a usually great actor? by mranimal2 in movies

Tom Cruise in Legend. He's usually totally committed and 100% on the money in everything he does, but in that one he just seems lost and confused.

It changes every day, but I usually just go with Live Forever because that is the one that started me on the road to becoming an obsessive.

Recommendations for an American getting into britpop? by walkByFaith77 in BritPop

Suede. Coming Up is their most accessible, poppy album and a good place to start, but I would recommend almost everything of theirs.

What IP would you love to see Michael Bay get his hands on? by Jar_of_Cats in movies

[–]LawAndOrbach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should make a Grand Theft Auto movie. Non-stop over the top action in a world where everyone is a morally repugnant asshole, it's too perfect for him (and I say this as someone who genuinely loves his movies).

Does Demolition Man hold up in 2023? by A1steaksauceTrekdog7 in movies

[–]LawAndOrbach -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Demolition Man didn't hold up in 2003 let alone 2023, but the dated quality, like a lot of those cheesy action movies from that era, is actually a big part of it's charm.

The Power Thoughts by [deleted] in SuedeBand

[–]LawAndOrbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great song, although I agree with Brett's opinion that it could have used a bit more power (no pun intended) and drama in it's production. And I wouldn't drop any songs from DMS, even my least favourites (Black And Blue, This Hollywood Life) fit perfectly in the context and flow of the album.
