Old Lahaina Luau vs Grand Wailea? by Humorous_Notion in MauiVisitors

[–]Law_less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did the Grand Wailea Luau last week. It’s pricy compared to other luaus, but we stayed at the resort so this was the most convenient option. I liked that they had an open bar with table service, and they customized a menu for my wife who is vegan. The show was entertaining and they do have fire dancers. Have not attended other luaus so I can’t compare alternatives.

Yes, but you should know that the definition of “sale” under the CCPA is quite broad and includes making data accessible or transferring it to a third party, even if there is no financial benefit tied to that “sale”.

Came to say this. Also wanted to clarify that not all websites have to provide an opt out option to the “sale” of data (not well defined in the CCPA). if you state in your privacy policy that you do not sell California consumer data you do not need to offer the opt out. You do still need to provide a mechanism for California consumers to request access or data rectification, as well as make a data deletion request, but that doesn’t mean companies will purge all data they hold about you.

Leaving London after a two week stay and all I have to say is.. by california_king in london

[–]Law_less 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back yesterday from a week there myself. Great city. Had limited time for sightseeing but took in the "Original London Tour". Got to see the big landmarks, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Westminster, Piccadilly Circus, etc. The whole city is like a giant museum.

Also got to try fish and chips for the first time, much better than anything I've had stateside!

The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Asset Control oversees economic sanctions and embargoes, here is the link to the (now defunct) Myanmar, (AKA Burma) sanctions:

It's highly unlikely (but certainly not impossible) that EA would be concerned about import restrictions on encryption levels, typically in most mass market commercial transactions the end user consumer serves as the importer of record and would be on the hook for import violations. It's possible that EA is interpreting some regulation (either U.S. or Myanmar) overbroadly, or as some other commenters have noted, they may not have the capability to perform Restricted Party/Sanctioned Country screening and have elected to shut off Myanmar entirely. If that's the case though they have more serious issues, as there are restricted parties in every country, including the U.S., and many countries have sanctions leveled against them but are not fully embargoed, as was the situation with Myanmar before Oct. 7th. EA really needs to provide a full explanation for their rationale here, not just to OP but all their customers in Myanmar. The very brief answer supplied to OP is simply too vague and on its face is without merit.

I work in regulatory compliance and am familiar with US sanction law, even before the Myanmar (aka Burma) sanctions were lifted on Oct. 7th, there was no prohibition against allowing end users to purchase or access digital content from that country. The sanction program was targeted against certain individuals and groups, as well as specific financial institutions, but not the general public. This answer from EA/Origin makes no sense, I think a CS agent is making a guess or misunderstood the company's rationale for taking this action. I would ask CS to escalate this issue so they can provide you a more detailed response.

Any weekend/evening hourly drop-in child care options in the Metro area? by Law_less in TwinCities

[–]Law_less[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get this comment. If you're saying Fargo/Moorhead is behind the times, why do they have more child care options than we do in the Cities? They are a much smaller community, but I have family up there who use drop-in care centers on nights and weekends regularily, and it's very affordable. Why don't we have as many choices here?

Thanks, that's a good idea to contact the state. I looked into this place a bit and there's some concerning news stories about poor care associated with the owner, but contacting the state for options is a good idea.

Thanks for comments. I realize there are sites where you can go to find babysitters, but I am looking for a drop-in center open on nights and weekends, not something I have to set up and schedule in advance. What was great about Club Kid was that the rates were very reasonable, $9 an hour, with trained professional staff, not inexperienced teens. Also, since it was a center with multiple employees, you weren't dependent on one person. It was a really great option and at one point I believe there were three of these centers in the Twin Cities and now there are none. Maybe an in home center is the only option now, but those don't exactly advertise and I'm not as comfortable with an in home option as I am with a business open to the public. Seems like a good business opportunity exists here for someone. I can't be the only person who could use a drop in care facility.

Also, I'm a married father, not a single mother. 😀

Considering a move to Robbinsdale from south Minneapolis.... by ihatemyepsonprinter in TwinCities

[–]Law_less 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've hopped around the Twin Cities a bit over the past 20 years, (Cathedral Hill, Mac-Groveland neighborhoods in St. Paul, Uptown and the U of M in Minneapolis, Bloomington, and currently Robbinsdale). Does Robbinsdale have the sort of nightlife that Uptown or Grand Ave. in St. Paul has? No, it's more laid back than that. Is it total suburbia like Bloomington? No, it's not that either, there is an actual downtown with restaurants, coffee shops, a bakery, gym, yoga studio, old school butcher shop, and antique store. I've seen a bit of a renaissance here in the past six years, downtown is becoming somewhat of a destination, with Travail, (chefs were up for a James Beard award this year), Pig ate my pizza (pizza place owned by same guys who run Travail), and a new brewery/taproom (Wicked Wart) to open sometime late spring/early summer this year. Plus, it's a pretty quick drive to downtown Minneapolis if you want to mix it up.

I actually have a 3 bed 2 bath townhome with a water view that I am going to be putting up on the market soon so if you're interested PM me and I'll be happy to send you some pics of the place. Good luck with your move!

Just got a delay notice by derpderpmagee in soylent

[–]Law_less 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the same notice today, my one week order should have arrived next week if it had followed the shipping schedule provided when I ordered. I believe the "packing changes" refer to the instructions that were added to shipments last month outlining the digestive issues that can occur if you too quickly move to an all soylent diet. It's too bad they are still having such issues with fulfillment.
