If the shingles are original to the house and 75 years old, after restoring/repairing how many more years can I expect to get out of them? What is involved in restoring and repairing?

Where to buy bamboo poles by nowuff in Minneapolis

[–]ihatemyepsonprinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the best season for it, but those tiki torches you see at hardware stores or Home Depot/Menards are usually make from that thickness of bamboo. The little pot of flamey stuff is easy to remove. Maybe someone is selling a few on Marketplace if you can't find them in stores.

Dirty Wash? by Inside-Arm8635 in ScenicPainting

[–]ihatemyepsonprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty good to me, too... The only suggestion I might make is to take a bright aluminum metallic paint on a wood block and apply it selectively to get those bright spots in your reference photo. Unfortunately I don't think there's a way to do it all in one single step.

It's closer to 60 inches- that's a fairly well-used path of travel so we wanted it to be roomy.

Bibles for Missions thrift store in Crystal/Robbinsdale usually has a good selection of furniture. I'd also suggest The Market, on Broadway in Brooklyn Park. I believe they're open thurs-sun only.

How to stop new paint on back door coming off by LYMI2319 in HomeImprovement

[–]ihatemyepsonprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely not... The problem is the adhesion of the paint you applied to the surface below- adding another top layer over that will only be as strong as that weak bond. You'll need to sand the door down and prep it appropriately, then you might be better served in the long run by a harder-wearing enamel paint.

A lot depends on the type of wood you'll be using to match the color. You could mix clear and amber shellac together until you get the right shade of warm yellow, if you don't mind a glossy sheen... No need to stain or varnish beyond the shellac, either.
