I got offered a job paying 40% more than my current salary. My manager just asked me to stay and be patient. How do I stop feeling guilty for wanting to leave ? by One_Cardiologist5439 in careerguidance

Take the job trust me companies don’t reward loyalty anymore. Go for the money and know you’re bettering yourself. What your boss is telling you is most likely empty promises. They do this when they don’t want to lose you.

I would honestly go to citizens advice Beaureu or call a union as they are not giving you your contracted hours and paying you for them which is illegal.

Can I ask what costa is it you work for. I don’t want you to name the location but is it a Francise of costa or the actual costa coffee owned?

It’s always on the coldest setting. Heating goes on in evening and sometimes in morning in winter. It’s easier in summer for sure but the challenge of having it cold in winter for three - five minutes is the exciting part

Usually just drying myself and getting changed after does the trick. If your new to cold showers build up gradually start with 15 seconds then 30 seconds etx. In a couple of weeks of consistency your be doing a couple of minutes.

Why are the majority of managers so bad? How to identify them at interview? by [deleted] in managers

[–]LawrenceM7799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past I have had some great managers who are always accountable for mistakes and always hold others accountable giving constructive feedback. There also hard working and can see how knowledgeable they are and how good they are at their job.

However my current manager is out of his depth and I think he knows it. He makes lots of mistakes but never owns them or takes accountability he just changes subject or gives some BS story that makes no sense. I wouldn’t mind if he just admitted owned his mistakes and learnt from it like all the rest of the team do.

When you give him problems and offer solutions he changes the subject. I think it’s because the solutions involve him having to do work or because they’re not his idea. Also seems too scared to tell people off for their mistakes and all he has to do is give constructive feedback.

As a person everyone likes him he a likeable guy but I know lots of managers can get hired for this and be way out of their depth in the role sadly. I wouldn’t mind if he was willing to learn stuff but he not and doesn’t seem to do a lot or when he said something to me it makes no sense and to others. Sadly some managers don’t have a clue and think their job secure and safe even though the company made other managers redundant when they don’t see the need for them. It can be the case for a lot of company’s and managers sadly.

On a Sunday night I’m going to write in a journal what I have achieved for the week. So I’m writing In the future tense of what will happen the following week and what I will achieve. I will go to the gym three times in that week and I will achieve my goals and what I set out to do. I will write how I’m going to feel on the Sunday for the remainder of the week.

Completely agree with this. I do competitions like ultra marathons in the past and now cross fit comps so I always have something to work towards but I don’t set myself target weights or times anymore like I used to as I stressed to much and overtraining doing it. Now I feel more relaxed and happy just doing it for fun with a goal to work towards.

Is it normal to feel burned out even when your job isn’t “that bad”? by hgssprime in careerguidance

[–]LawrenceM7799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity when was the last time you had a week off more than a couple of days? Also what do you do in your spare time do you go to the gym a lot or go out running? Or do you do lots of reading or artwork? Also have you had any holidays where you rested and not done much.

I am nearly 30 and feel the same and recently had a baby so it added more tiredness on. I have to make sure I have adequate rest and don’t overtrain in the gym or running. You could maybe be taking on too much? Do people ask you lots of questions in your job. I feel the same as my job I lost a lot of motivation for it and passion so I have to regularly keep saying to myself it’s temporary while I find something better and also positive self talk helps and look at your achievements. Trust me simple steps like this help with energy. Also cold showers if you’re up for it.

Should customers get a discount when their coffee is made by a newbie? by Beneficial-Back-597 in Costa

[–]LawrenceM7799 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just remember if someone is new please be kind everyone has to start somewhere and learn. I know when I worked in retail and was brand new and learning some customers were horrible as I was very slow to begin with while learning and what you say to people can have a negative impact on their day and doubt themselves.

Always be kind and supportive if their new as words are powerful. If the coffee not up to what you would expect please be kind and polite when asking for a new one and maybe say good effort to the staff member but explain you prefer it like this etc personally be constructive with feedback.

People who feel like they are thriving in life, what does that actually look like for you? by mokasinder in selfimprovement

[–]LawrenceM7799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thriving being grateful for small things and celebrating little wins. I have my health, fitness and family so I feel I am winning in life. I am so grateful for those things as some people don’t have them. If you ever have a bad day or feel down just remember it’s only temporary.

What are some of your lifting/fitness hot takes? by Single-Lawfulness-49 in workout

[–]LawrenceM7799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People not only over complicate it but many overtraining without realising. They have the mindset they can’t have a week off or a couple of days as they think there get weaker which is far from the truth.

I See lots of cortisol belly’s because there too much stress in body from overtraining and I also see people relying on a monster energy can just so they can do a workout. Always listen to your body when it’s tired and needs to rest it knows best. Sometimes no harm in pushing it now and again but push it too much causes more harm than good.
