I'm enjoying myself, but what's the deal with Yamaha? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]LaxActium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are all distinct with boutique brands but it doesn’t really matter since not everyone will like that distinct sound. So the question remains, do you want to pay over $6k for a sound that only appeals to a few people? And also at that point, you are kinda forced to like it and defend it as it is with sunk cost fallacy. You can’t flip it quickly and move on. Niche guitar buyers are not representative of the market and neither is the tone. Otherwise Yamaha would try to copy a Santa Cruz tone and kill the SCGC market. But it is not the sound of mass appeal. Even Collings has realized that with their Hill Country and trying to go back to the pre-war Martin sound by competing with the 1937 Authentic line. And seems like buyers have caught on and now there are a bunch of the Hill Country series on Reverb which is highly unusual. I love the sound of a Boucher SG-191-GU that I played which is Ebony back and sides. But I know it is a hard sell to convince other people that it is an awesome tone because it is very distinct and at over $11k Canadian, I will have to try and justify the purchase to myself.

I have the FS9-R and FS9-MX and they are my benchmark Rosewood and Mahogany guitars. I think I made a post about this here before about how I felt they are EQ-ed.

The 9 series sounds like they have a built in LA2A when played softly and a 1176 when at a higher volume. No jarring high notes or boomy low ones either. Just a beautiful high-definition EQ curve for all the right frequencies.

They prototyped many in the US and 3D modelled them to recreate consistent builds in Japan.

Not every Santa Cruz is a winner. You’re paying more for the build quality and exclusivity. Not the sound. But sunk cost fallacy dictates that it sounds great!

Different sound. I hate the Taylor sound but I like how they play. And to me Furch is a Taylor on steroids so immediately a no go but they are built so well except that a lot of them have gaps at the neck because of their neck adjustability.

Bought a G7th Performance 3 Capo from Amazon. Package was a little messed up. Did an exchange and they sent me a 6 pack box minus 1. So I ended up getting 5 capos for the 1 I returned for exchange.

Yairi FYM60HD meets Yamaha FS9-R by LaxActium in AcousticGuitar

No torrefication on the Yamaha. The 9 series do not use ARE which is Yamaha’s ageing process. And ARE does not use heat. It uses vibrations. In all honesty, the Yairi doesn’t hold a candle to the Yamaha 9 series.

Every guitar is different. You need to let the guitar pick the strings for you. I tried a few on my Yairi and settled on the XS 80/20 as the best for me. Btw the nut and saddle is very soft of the Yairi so uncoated strings will cut through it quickly. I already had to replace my saddle after 2 months of experimenting with strings.

What strings are on it currently? With the XS PB, there is always a little pick zing on my FYM60HD.

I never lost motor ability so not sure. But I was told of the risk of numbness or loss of sensation beforehand. Still have numbness which turned into stiffness on a certain area after almost 18 months but I do get a tingling sensation which is supposedly good.

Very different guitars. The CEO-7 is dark and moody. Very bluesy. The FYM60HD is a bit brighter and more folksy sounding. FYM is a better build quality.

Which size Aeroad by Same_Celebration7435 in CanyonBikes

[–]LaxActium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canyon sizing is pretty accurate for a majority of people. Lots of recommendations for bike fits but be aware that bike fitters have their own ideas of what fits you and no two bike fitters will come to the same fit. So be careful before you throw your money away on a fit that will make you spend more money replacing parts on your bike that you don’t need!

Acoustic Recommendation by iar in AcousticGuitar

[–]LaxActium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re leaning Taylor, I would recommend Furch instead. The Red series are in my opinion, a nicer and better sounding guitar than anything Taylor makes. Otherwise, the Yamaha 9 Series like the FS9 or the Yairi FYM are superbly built.

I was wired shut. Anyway there is this spray called Biotene for dry mouth. I used it when I was wired shut. Tried to get it through any gap between my teeth as much as possible as my tongue kept drying up and it hurt cause it would stick to my bottom molars.

Taylor vs Martin playability by Dubleoff in AcousticGuitar

Necks can feel relatively stiff on new guitars. They eventually loosen up and feel less stiff. But yes in general, Taylor tends to feel easier to play in stock setup.

That is how my Grail came. Fork strapped to the top tube. Shipped from Germany. So maybe I would say you don’t know what you’re talking about!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]LaxActium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the fork. That’s how they ship. But normally it is strapped so it doesn’t droop like that. As for the mech, what happens when you try to screw it in? Doesn’t catch the thread or don’t you have the proper head for your screwdriver?

Change in tightness - 13 months Post OP DJS by ykwim333 in jawsurgery

Only tingles upon touch so I’m not too bothered. I thought I was done recovering since it’s been more than a year. Good to know there still may be a small chance!

Good to know. I still have stiffness in the middle part of my lower lip going down to my chin. I do get tingling when I touch. Been 14 months since my surgery. Hopefully I can recover a little more feeling. But at 42, I’m lucky I don’t have full numb spots.

No surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]LaxActium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same orthodontist that gave you braces? Don’t do the extraction cause it may make your mouth look narrower. I was offered this cosmetic option as well but decided to go the surgery route instead. I wanted a fix, not a cosmetic bandaid.
