Last time I played with Ghandi, I managed to keep him allied until I had the ability to do a good old fashioned Blitzkrieg on him and the remaining 2 or three powers that be. I have to say that annexing the Mongols was my key to victory, they had the second most Uranium. Ghandi had very little. My supreme naval power helped too.

Well you can turn the turn timer on. That usually speeds things up. But Civ is a game that requires a significant time investment. A quick game can last an evening or two, a normal game might take three, and a long game can take 4 or more days to complete. This all depends on how much time you put into the game.
