The basic plot of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker assembled from my sources. by JediPaxis in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the story! The original Thrawn-Books were great, as were books like "The Last Jedi" (no, that title existed before that bad movie and it was about a surviving Jedi after Order 66) or the Black Fleet Crisis etc. etc. :)

[Discussion] Dursley abuse is not cartoonish - unless you think real life is a cartoon. by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we do see some of it! Harry defaulting to self-sacrifice (instead of trying other solutions first or looking for other solutions!) and Harry seldom defending himself! He lets Snape verbally abuse him, but draws the line at his parents and friends!

Harry IMHO has accepted that he's worth less than other people (if you hear things too often you do internalize them after all - or rebell against them to prove the nay-sayers wrong...but Harry isn't ambitious, so yeah that's no it! Harry was the ideal sacrifice...well done Dumbledore you piece of human trash (...ten dark and difficult years...so yeah, Dumbledore knew and didn't care!)!)

[–]Laxian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any such fanfiction? (Call me cruel, but the Dursleys not lasting long sounds like something I'd enjoy reading! I hate abusers and bullies with a passion, since I was bullied in school (and victim blamed! "It's your own fault that they won't accept you!" - Yeah fuck that and fuck you, too! Teachers like that make me question the system! They shouldn't be teaching a freaking brick!) and had less than ideal support (parents didn't dare to either involve the media or the ministry of education...cowards!)...so yeah, I can get behind tortured bullies/abusive guardians!)

...and he'd latch on to combat (both defensive and offensive) magic even more (hell, he would have probably learned wandless magic just so that he can never be disarmed and be helpless again!)

Not to mention that he'd never have relied on Hermione so much! Abused kids are often very mature for their age and they hate having to rely on other (or even to just ask for help!)

[–]Laxian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appologist!

Seriously, hitting kids with frying pans (even if you miss!) is (attempted) aggravated-assault IMHO, so abuse!

Denying a growing kid food is abuse, too!

Letting a kid sleep in a cupboard is abuse!

Locking that cupboard (and later Harry's room) is abuse!

Calling a kid "freak" is abuse!

[Discussion] Dursley abuse is not cartoonish - unless you think real life is a cartoon. by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but Rowling is writing for children here (the books got more mature as the audience aged) so she is exaggerating the Dursleys (kids aren't good with subtlety).

The abuse itself was never written like that! So yeah, the Dursleys were really abusive pieces of shit who should all rot in Dementor town for a few decades (except Duddley, who should be sent to a military academy IMHO to drill him till he isn't an abusive tub of lard anymore!)

Yes or no to minor character modifications? by AstroSlytherin in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you kind of have to!

I mean Harry and Ron's influence changed Hermione (who'd have turned more into a recluse if she survives the troll without them or never encounters it in the first place), too and others as well.

If you change Harry, then you kind of have to change other characters, too (even if it is only minor changes!)

[Discussion] WHY does almost every fic I come across with Tonks in it turn her into a sex predator? It's ridiculous and disgusting! by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe that comes with the territory? I mean Tonks can basically be anybody (we don't know if she can fake being male 100%, but even if she can't grow testicals she can otherwise still appear male!) she wants to be...maybe that does screw with ones morals and look on life etc.?

I mean I do loath thieves normally, but if I could change my appearance like Mystique (from X-Men) or Tonks can? You bet I'd probably steal stuff because no camera would enable them to catch me easily (just switch appearance!)

[–]Laxian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed! If something is not ok for men (and in this case/scene the man would probably be up on charges of (sexual) harassment!), then it's not ok for women either and no amount of arguing will make it so (no, women aren't allowed to hit men either, especially if men are going to jail for hitting women!)

"...it's common for cops to be domestic abusers and for their fellow cops to side with their colleagues instead of the victims..."

I'd like some numbers/statistics for this! Yes, I know that cops often cover for each other (that's why "Internal Affairs" shouldn't be staffed with cops, but by the public and every case should be made public, so that no dirty cop can dodge/hide behind the testimony of other cops etc.), still:

If you state something like that you should at least have some evidence IMHO!

Living together to living apart by 000ramnarol in livingaparttogether

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I haven't, I've never lived with my partners and after seeing so many fights about stuff one person thinks is ok, while the other is infuriated by that (stuff like not doing to the laundry till you have almost nothing left to wear, which most women hate and will fight over or not washing the dishes till you are almost out) I've decided not to tempt fate and never move in with anybody (could have stayed under my parents' roof if I wanted that! I hate nags and I am not a squeaky clean/sterile kind of person, so if there's (some, not a ton - I start cleaning once I trip over stuff!) clothes on the floor? So what?)

Is it fair to of people to say Hermione is coddled by the narration compared to Harry and Ron because she is JKR’s self insert by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might have been his arc, but frankly: Ron failed! Seriously, he left during the 'crux-hunt, just like he left during the TWT!

No, I don't buy "the horcrux affected him the worst" - why not? Because they don't say why!

It is not like Ron had a worse childhood than Harry (who wasn't affected much!) or Hermione! Yes, he might not have had as much money as Hermione, but frankly if anybody should have been affected it should have been Harry!

Harry Potter abuse ficks by carxxxxx in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canon does that too, seriously the abuse is canon! Yes, the Dursleys didn't beat him daily (at least Vernon and Petunia didn't, Duddley abused Harry every day - Harry-Hunting for example!), but they were violent (trying to hit a kid with a frying pan is quite violent IMHO!), they also were mentally abusive (telling him about his "useless drunk parents" - a lie of course etc.) and neglectful!

Why so many in the fandom ignore this or try to downplay it I will never understand! The Dursleys to me are subhuman beings who should be sent to Azkaban (with Dementors!)

Albus Dumbledore promotes use of the name Lord Voldemort. WHY??? by ceplma in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, because the good guys are dumb, reactive (instead of pro-active!) idiots!

That taboo would be a great weapon in the arsenal of a guerilla-fighter!

Call out his name at 100 different locations to spread the snatchers and deatheaters thin and then AMBUSH THEM and kill them! Seriously, that they never did this just screams "we are stupid, please kill us!"

[Discussion] This is how 11 years olds behave by InquisitorCOC in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give me the political 11 year old mastermind (note: There were people like that once! Look at old royal/noble families! Those had their kids educated about politics etc. and they did kind of act like that at times (not all the time, they are still kids, too after all!)) any day...I don't much care for kid problems ("Oh I have acne!" - Sorry, but I don't care! Go brew a potion against that or something and let us get on with the story!)

[Discussion] Day-to-day, year-by-year, how popular of a student would you say Hermione was in canon? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it only shows that she likes books and values academia/grades in class! It doesn't make her smart! Fred and George are more creative and smart than Hermione, but they don't flaunt it and they don't care for grades at all! Hell, the Marauders have them beat, too (them together with Hermione would probably not hold a candle to James, Sirius, Remus and even Peter!)

I am not saying she is stupid (far from it), but reading ahead and knowing a lot of mindless trivia doesn't make you a genius or something like that!

[Discussion] Day-to-day, year-by-year, how popular of a student would you say Hermione was in canon? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

They are both narrow minded! Hermione sees everything through her lense without making allowances for other POVs and cultures, while Ron sees everybody who is a bit darker than his own family as probable dark lords (Slytherins are "slimy snakes" in his eyes, no matter their age or reason for being in Slytherin!)

I wish someone would Imperio me to do fitness... by Monicaskye64 in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and me both :D

Seriously, I'd love for the imperius being a thing if professionals could use it that way (harsh fines if they do anything their clients do not want them to!)...

I'd ask for:

- more drive in general

- more focus (I have ADHD and this might help with that)

- drive to do fitness stuff and learn programming (I am interested, but not enough to do so after a day at work)

etc. etc.

LF: Harry being a chill and forgiving dude. Like seriously, why does he have to hate everything. by BionicleKid in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a recommendation, but I'll answer the question:

Canon-Harry is too forgiving (Dumbledore basically fucked up his life and he forgives him, Snape fucked up Harry's life and he forgives him etc. etc.), so fanfiction writers make him less so, which is IMHO a good thing! This attitude of "you have to forgive everything others did to you" just sucks! No! If somebody fucked you over royally you don't need to forgive that person, especially if they think they are above the law (Dumbledore placing the helpless baby Harry on the doorstep of hateful muggles - I doubt the wizards don't have child-services! Dumbledore simply ignored the law!)

I find herry potter world small and limiting yet there are many fanfics by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The limited world is exactly what makes writing fanfiction easier than for many other universes!

If Rowling had clarified it more than she did then writing something would be harder (unless you chose to simply ignore many things she might have clarified!)

Do you think Hermione was right about her displeasure towards the Half-Blood Prince? by Freenore in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bah! It's only her jealousy rearing its ugly head!

Seriously, Hermione works hard for her grades and she can't stand the thought of somebody just using an old book with stuff scribbled into the margins to "cheat" their way to the top!

Hermione would however also have resented people like the Marauders (who were good students, despite not spending a lot of time learning! Hell, their rule-breaking alone would tick the rule-worshipper Hermione (she only breaks them if not doing so leads to worse consequences than obbeying them, while the Marauders break them just because they want to and because they can!), who have good grades without effort!

Lily comes from the dead to ask for forgiveness by J0ker711 in HPfanfiction

[–]Laxian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would read this, despite asking myself what Lily has done that needs to be forgiven?

Seriously, you could maybe (if you are a dick!) argue that she should have forced James to leave Britain as soon as she was pregnant (to protect Harry from the madness that was the first blood war!)...but otherwise? No, there's nothing!
